Find volume 2!

I was just about to review this and I was glad I did, because I found out about volume 2, and I liked it more than volume 1.
If it was to be judged based on Koga and Sasano's romance, this manga to me would've been just a distraction to pass the time. It's not bad, it's alright, but it's not different, either. I guess the nice thing about it is the pace, very slowly developed, which I appreciate. However, the plot itself is basically non existent. Since it's a shounen-ai, not outright yaoi, there's no sex, so it's not like that, but... it's a pretty straightforward love story. I think Hiwatari-sensei wanted to try her own take on it? I don't know.
It was cute how Sugiyama and Hibiya kept trying to help the main couple in volume 01, but I honestly can't say much more than that. All the dates and festivities made it seem very much like a shoujo manga, and not a remarkable one. As for the resolution, I really dislike the "I like you", "I like you too" climaxes, I prefer more complexity. My favorite part about it was probably when Koga was jealous, even though that didn't last very long.
Another problem is that neither are my type. Sasano is the complete opposite of my type. The shy, sweet megane uke. At least he doesn't cry, I suppose. Koga is even worse, because a seme can make or break a manga, and to have the SEME cry all the time... Yeah, he feels like an uke, too.
Even though my review this far reads like a bad one, I didn't hate this manga. I just didn't think it was remarkable.

But then volume 2 came, and oh! It's much better! It's not like it's the most original story in the world either, but it does have a great shounen-ai steady, slow pace.
I liked how they were a bit past the relationship stage and too much into the friendzone. Although this isn't a new concept, the way it was done here was quite a new take. Normally, they're childhood friends or something. But Sugiyama and Hibiya weren't, they met during the story, but kind of missed the timing? I also liked that Sugiyama had a deeper complexity about him than basically all the other characters. The fact he wouldn't let Hibiya in because of that made for a much more interesting story.
And I like that, even though Tatsumi is used to create jealousy, much like Shimizu, they don't actually cause anything but another character's wrong impression. Tatsumi ended up being just a friend, not a love interest, which I liked.
If I could change something about it, it would be Hibiya having confessed early on. It took Sugiyama a bit to fully accept him, and I like that it wasn't angsty (even though I'm a sucker for it), but rather a slow, steady pace, like the rest of the story. But if Hibiya had held it in longer, I think it'd have been better.
Finally, neither are my type of uke/ seme (apparently, looks like this will be a constant with Hiwatari-sensei 🙁 ), but I don't dislike any of them, either. I really thought I'd hate Sugiyama because I thought he'd be Sasano 2.0, but smaller and even more girly, but he's the complete opposite of it. He actually conquered me and I kind of love his personality. He's sarcastic, that's pretty rare to see in yaoi. He's witty and also even make dirty little comments here and there, despite it being shounen-ai. He's a really refreshing character that I wish we saw more of in the BL world.

Finally, it seems obvious to me that Tatsumi and Kurata are the third couple, so I'd like a little special chapter about them. I don't want a whole volume, or worse, an entire manga for them, because Kurata is even less the type of character I like, but I'd like some resolution between all of them.

Oh, as for the art, it's lovely!

Depends

I'm giving 9 mostly for the first story. It was cute, heartwarming, absolutely adorable. Just the kind of story I like. I liked the relationship progress between Sasano and Koga a lot. I love how they started as friends and were learning about each other. I love how Koga was trying so hard to understand Sasano and become his friend. I love how Sasano was learning how to get used to Koga's presence. They were developing at a slow pace I like. It was great, I'd love to see more of them.
But the second one... I loved Sugiyama and Hibiya a lot in Yamete Kudasai, Mabushii Desu. They were great as supporting friends and all. But I couldn't see them as a couple. A romantic relationship just didn't suit them, in my very personal opinion of course. Tatsumi was an absolutely unnecessary character in this story, I believe everything would be ten times better without all this drama about him. The end seemed rushed.
I think author could just leave this manga with one volume and that would be so much better.

Blame manga aggregating sites!

I was also thoroughly confused by the supposedly disjointed second volume, only to realise by chapter 5 that the order of chapters that I had been reading until then was wrong. I usually use man-ga-park and it's normally fine, but for some reason there was a mix up in chapters uploaded for this second volume, and the real chapter 5 was branded as chapter 1, while chapter 1 itself was missing. Therefore you could imagine what a jumbled mess it felt like reading chapter 5 -> 2 -> 3 ->4 -> 6.

Luckily man-ga-go has everything in neat order and I didn't have to wreck my brain too much over the confusion. After it has all been sorted out, I can say that this is a reasonably cute manga, with adoorable artwork and character designs. I definitely prefer the dynamics between the main couple in volume 2 to that in volume 1, but overall both volumes are okay for the most part.

One thing that irked me so much is the scanlation team's awkward translation which tampered a lot with the original Japanese texts and took nuance and coherency out of most of the dialogues. It's really annoying when an incompetent fan scanlating group touches on a project, because readers will be left with an unintelligible mess, and that means they will never be able to properly read it, ever, because other scanlating groups will not work on a manga that's already been scanlated, even if the quality of such scanlation is subpar. I hate it when that happens.

Pmuch Shoujo w/ Gays

It's made almost entirely out of shoujo tropes, with childhood friends and mutual pining and a chapter at a festival. Advertised as a package of sugar, and indeed it's a package of sugar. The art's also nice, got a shoujo vibe to it. Overall, it's nice if you're into sweet but typical shojo-like stories, delivering exactly what it said it would.

Boring

Lately there's a lot of similar shounen-ai manga like this one. Carbon copies. With development of computer art, now everyone is an artist, so why not to make a manga? Though art alone isn't enough to create a good manga.
Art isn't bad, but the plot is just boring. Both volumes. Just boring. Nothing happens. Characters are flat. Story about nothing.

Gorgeously Cute

Like cake with the sweetest frosting, these stories will satisfy any sweet-tooth reader looking for adorable and touching fluff. The characters are fun and all decently developed in the couple volumes. The romance is simple and refreshing with minimal drama and more a focus on how people interact with different dynamics. The art was beautiful. I especially loved the snap shots of characters (their eyes, hands, back of heads) to express emotions and actions subtly.

While this was a true delight and was full of "squeal" moments, it could have developed a more substantial plot. A deeper and more involved story would have truly made the characters and all their relationships (romance and friendship) more 'alive'. Additionally, the second volume is out of order in chapters (at least where I read it) which did cause some confusion. With all that said, this left warm-fuzzies, a really happy smile and the desire to own this series when it's available in a bookstore!

Definitely a recommended, pleasant read.

The first volume was really cute, but the second was very rushed, scattered, and confusing. I have a feeling it was a translation issue, though I couldn't find anything specific which was all that badly translated. Something was just off through the whole second part, and I was constantly questioning whether I had missed a chapter somewhere.

Not a bad story, but not too good either. The art is kinda cute. Somehow the story feels quite shallow. It's good if you want something to kill time. And I like the two friends more than the main couple.

Yeah, I'm really totally into all the fluff but well I should be fair, I should say I noticed the lack of good plot. Perhaps it's supposed to be very common already? But anyway I seriously wanted more of this. *squeals*
