Mending broken relationship, or getting away from a toxic relationship?

I have heard about the rental girlfriend/boyfriend, and even the rental family member in the Japanese society, but this manga is one of a kind. It opened up more layers in a rental relationship.
At the beginning, the girl was renting the guy to grasp the kind oniichan she couldn't get/ she lost from her own oniichan. She realized very well that the rental oniichan isn't her real oniichan, and wanted to end the rental relationship. In the end, when she tried to mend the relationship, her biological oniichan pushed her away farther.
The interesting thing is, she tried to look for encouragement, family warmth, etc from her rental oniichan. At the same time, the rental oniichan was also trying to heal his pain and loneliness through the existence of a little sister, a family.
It definitely isn't a simple rental relationship.
I'm not sure why exactly the biological brother shoved away his little sister, even slapping her to bleeding. I think he was also lost and felt powerless as a brother, and eventually pushing all the blame to his little sister. Still not an excuse of course for his abusive attitude.
So far, I was still wondering if this was a story about trying to mend a broken relationship or getting away from a toxic/abusive relationship. It could be both or neither after all.
Anyway, I give this a 10. Still looking forward to the story.

I already read this manga until the latest chapter that's not translated yet, I just want to say that this is a story about a little girl who want to find comfort by doing many things with her 'rental' brother. And a 'rental' brother who see himself in her (his past self) and want to help her. Why rental? She hasn't gave up yet with his brother so he want to make a wall between real brother and rental brother.
Every character is unique, even their way of thinking, like human being. I can relate to every character. Everything make senses in the end, even her brother's horriable behaviour.
I know that some people can't relate to this story or how it's not like what you expect (like the one who review before me). But, there are people who can relate to this story like me. I don't think it's wise to give bad review because you don't understand the story.

I love how they solve the problem. In the end his brother got counseling so I hope it can help him to be on track again.

So we have a little girl who is in an abusive home, and a guy who she's renting as her brother. There interactions together are cute. These cute interactions help move these leads to grow as people despite the darker backdrop that is in each of their lives. In my opinion this makes the story even more cute and feel-good inspiring.
EDIT: So after finishing the story, the rating is still the same. I think the ending could have been done better. As said, the subject matter is dark, so a clean wrap-up ending usually isn't a good idea imo. Overall, the story stayed cute throughout so, thats good.

When I picked this up I was expecting a very different story to the one I got.
The premise is that there's a little girl who is prepared to pay to rent an older brother.
I had an image in my head of the rental older brother being absolutely perfect with her during the rental period, and as soon as the time is up he becomes cold and only interested in the money. My thought was that this would be the start, and that gradually he would come to care for the lonely little girl.
This is the story I wanted to read.
Unfortunately, my idea of what the story would be, based on the blurb and the sample pictures on the back of the volume, was very different to the actual content. *possible spoilers ahead*
Basically, the little girl has an older brother who used to be sweet to her but, following the death of their parents, ignores her. She misses this so when the male lead sees her looking sad in the park one day, and offers to be a substitute, she decides she will pay for his time so it's less of a betrayal of her real brother.
I didn't get the male lead at all. I didn't get his niceness, and found his character quite boring.
There are some dark themes. The real older brother has become occasionally violent. I didn't get this either.
I wasn't gripped enough by what I read to want to buy the next volume. But I think this story has the potential to become more interesting. What needs improving is the male lead. I didn't learn enough about him in this volume to understand him or care for him.
The little girl's attachment to her brother despite his violence baffled me, too.
