Too angsty
by Y_Sasuke

The FL is horrible. She faints several times in a chapter, is compeletely clueless and is the epitome of frustrating.

The ML is a cruel psychopath. Granted, he was tortured into it , but that doesn't make him likable.

Not a fan of the art, I can't say it is bad, but I dislike it. Everyone looks depressed all the time, even when they smile.

Maybe as a previous reviewer mentioned, the second season is much better, but I had to give up before.

This is a lot better if you start at chapter 41.5

If you like angst that could easily be cleared up with communication, then by all means read 1st season (41 chapters). Oh and also if you like reading about crazy psychopaths the few chapters sprinkled in from the ML’s, Aseph’s, POV might be interesting to you too.

Season 1: 4/10
Plot = 2/10 (nothing much happens besides ML’s background)
Characters = 5/10 (literally only the ML carries this season, but he is craaazzzy toxic)

Pacing is super slow and neither character gets any development. It is not clearly explained why the FL loves the ML and the time they spend together always gets interrupted for angst’s sake.

While it’s true the ML has reasons for being a crazy psycho, he doesn’t change much throughout season 1. A lot of the dark torture in the ML’s background feels like it’s only shown to us to make the plot more angsty.

The FL spends the entire 41 chapters pretty much either throwing crying tantrums or doing nothing. I know some people like her because she is ~different~ from stereotypical spunky heroines. She is very weak, emotional, and slow on the uptake. Her background and her knowledge of the ML’s life from the book are essentially useless until the 2nd season. Nothing important happens until the ML and FL finally actually communicate properly in chapters 40-41.

This is why (unless you like the things I mentioned above) you should start with the recap chapter 41.5. The recap shows what the plot of the 1st season should’ve been if it had been written clearly and a lot of the angst fluff was trimmed down.

Season 2: 8/10
Plot: 7/10 (a lot more happens with the intro of side characters and political intrigue)
Characters: 9/10 (we get to see more of Almoore, the true ML. I kid, I kid. Lol)

Season 2 finally explains why the FL is so in love with the ML because of how her background ties into his. Literally overnight, the ML and FL have both become entirely different characters from season 1.

The FL is much more level-headed and decisive. She’s no longer crying all the time, but she is still rather dense. Some would say she became blander, but she is a lot more tolerable than the her in the 1st season. A lot of the mysteries from season 1 are solved thanks to the FL’s dreams.

The ML still has some manipulativeness and jealousy issues, but he has instantly stopped a lot of the murdery things he used to do in season 1. He’s mellowed out significantly, showing only slight annoyance to the antics of the FL’s sister and the side characters. He’s also magically got a power boost that gets explained at the end.

Finally the ML and FL get to enjoy each others’ company and develop their relationship. The side characters all have a lot more personality and are focused on more compared to in the 1st season. Some villains emerge but are quickly dispatched by the MCs. Stakes aren’t very high, but the plot moves quickly and it’s entertaining. There are ups and downs and the romance is much more satisfying and heartwarming.

Really Enjoyed This

I could not put this down. I really love stories where the main characters are imperfect and that was definitely the case here. This was very entertaining and I really liked Aseph's character. It wasn't without its faults (the main fault, in my opinion, was that Aseph carried the story), but I got more than I expected so I was pleasantly surprised. I would love to devour more stories like this.

I've read this manhwa since the translators released the first chap and now I finally reached the ending, im bawling my eyes out 😭

istg this manhwa never failed to make me squeal whenever there's a heart fluttering moments between aseph and elzay although at the beginning it started off as a kind of obsession however aseph slowly changing was definitely pleasing, his tragic past made him that way, he never knew what love was not until elzay came into his life. elzay on the other hand in fact is not that weak bc she's truly strong on the inside.

they faced a lot of hardships that only defined how THEY WERE MADE FOR EACH OTHER!

yall should read this and in addition the art is really pretty!!

Idk if this should be romanticized?

I've read till the end of Season one and I'm still unsure if the author is trying to make it a romance or have Zay realise the man she's inlove with is a psycho. I kept reading because I had hoped it was the latter lol. But judging from the other's readers reactions I don't think it's going to be that.

My whole issue with it is that the ML(Aseph) is really two-faced; He'll be abusive to his servants but completely switch to "loving" when Zay comes in. I say "loving" becuase it's more obsession than love tbh, he's really manipulative and possessive when it comes to Zay.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Towards the end he wants and basically forces Zay to stay with him despite knowing she'll be in pain becuase she's denying God's seal (she wants to be with him but if he loved her he'd let her go), then he bites it off her when she's asleep, before that he also forcefully kisses her while she's crying, he poisoned his own poor horse just so they could fall off and he could pretend to be badly hurt so she could stay with him and not leave him. Overall, I just don't think he loves Zay because he just wants to have her as a possession, yeah he's not physically abusive to her but there are so many instances of him manipulating and gaslighting her that I'm sure eventually if she doesn't do what she says he'll prolly just shove her in a cage or beat her into "loving" him. I don't blame Zay for not seeing the signs since he's really two faced, but I'm iffy about this clearly toxic relationship being put out there as romance. It's got the romance tag up there, but no psychological or unhealthy relationship tag lol which is concerning. Also I'm aware he's got a traumatic past- but that doesn't exactly excuse this sorta behaviour.

Other than Aseph, the FL (Zay) is constantly crying and she's got a really weak personality. By that I mean other than crying and blushing she doesn't do much lmfao, honestly I'd rather read the original novel they mention becuase Zay's sister seems like way more thought out than herself and the story would be a lot more interesting if the FL had personality.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
When Zay's with Aseph you'll hear a lot of creppy things from Aseph and it sounds ten times as perverse becuase Zay's portrayed as really innocent and stuff- which makes sense tbh I think she was in high school when she got isekai-ed, which uh idk yeah

Overall, I'd say if you're into creepy manipulative but handsome MLs who are obsessed with the meek and pure FL, then I'd say this is the book for you. But also remember these sorts of relationships irl are unhealthy so don't get into them or romanticize them too much. Also if your partner says "You're mine" and you get uncomfy bc you're not an object so you tell them off for that then they respond with anger and/or posessivness-- Look back at the relationship and get ready to potentially start running..
Also the art is pretty good.

Really great for angst lovers. ML is yandere in the truest sense. Fl is extremely annoying in the beginning but becomes alot less annoying by the end of season 1. I found the romance aspect very wholesome but more so in season 2. Although its a bit strange because sometimes she seems like she's both lover/mother to the ML

I've definitely been guilty of sympathizing with the tragic villains before, so I am pleased to see a story like this one. The female MC is kinda annoying, and I don't get why he fell so quickly for her, but otherwise this is a guilty pleasure read...

Characters: 6/10 Honestly, the primary driving force of this series is the Aseph Randell, the charming villain dude. Everyone else is bland...
Art: 9/10
Plot: 7/10 This story fully fleshes out Aseph, making readers sympathize w/ him despite his psychotic tendencies.
Execution: 5/10 The pacing is kind of not convincing, and plot elements are a bit confusingly introduced.

The female lead

*sigh* There were a lot of instances that I wanna bitch slap her. She is definitely not the sharpest tool in the shed. I get that she went though a lot, but girl, please be a bit more rational. It's so painful to see her makes really stupid mistakes. I'm usually tolerant with weak female leads, but she is definitely one of the most annoying ones that I encountered, and trust me, I read a lot of shoujo. The only reason why I didn't drop this is cuz of the male lead. Yeah he's a murderous ahole (to everyone but the heroine of course, but polite to her father I guess), but at least he's not stupid and has an interesting backstory. Plus I'm a sucker for yanderes XD. The story is pretty great too: the angst, mysterious elements, and the "forbidden" aspect of their relationship, although I did eye roll at some points since it seems a bit too forced in making it tragic. The art is pretty too, can definitely see the improvement over time.
