Firstly, I've never seen the Chinese movie that this was based on (and judging by the Wikipedia synopsis, I never will) so I don't know how the manga correlates to it. But with that being said, a good manga should be able to stand on its own and not rely too much on the adaptive form, which Bishounen no Koi does not. The way this manga jumps around and introduces new characters and situations I almost felt like I was reading the SparkNotes of the movie. The only thing it has going for it is that it's a quick read and the art isn't painful to look at.

Okay this MIGHT be a good story, might have nice characters and all that, but none of that comes through in this manga. The execution is beyond bad.
The pacing is horrible, I mean, it feels like you have a several volume manga put into two chapters.
There's pictures and there's text but its completely disconnected and confusing.
What people do or say makes little sense to the reader, even big and important events are displayed in a way that makes them seem unimportant.
Thanks to this totally disconnected feeling, I couldn't build up any like for any of the characters.
What's even going on? Okay, reading this you get a little summary of the happenings but that's about it, there's no depth, no feelings.
Was this a manga after a movie or was the movie done afterwards? Maybe the movie makes more sense but the manga sure feels like some unskilled mangaka was watching this movie and quickly drawing random scenes from it down while watching.
I wonder what version the people were reading that give this a good review? You might think "oh okay, 3 chapters can be enough for a good story" but no, the 3rd chapter is only about the actors in the movie. So this is a 2 chapter manga that hasn't even got any oneshot qualities.
Don't waste your time on this. It's got nothing!
Neither a story, nor characters and the art isn't good enough to save it either.

It's too fast paced and rushed, so it felt like it was missing some important elements. Overall it was an ok read, left me with a weird feeling. I guess watching the movie would help..?

I don't get why someone would prostitute himself to give money to their good for nothing boyfriend D: If a guy asked me for money to give to their other girlfriend I would just beat the crap out of him with a high heel shoe

I can understand why some may be confused while reading this one, because the scenes go back and forth and it just makes you dizzy trying to keep up. That's not my problem with this story though, but the disgusting way in which it ended. It showed the guilty characters as cowards, not flawed or even sorry people. It's unlikely for me to root for someone to have a tragedy in yaoi, but for this one i wished the end of the 1st scene would be showed again.

It was ok ... It wasn't a big hit or something ... but I've read worse ... of course, now it depends on each person's tastes ...
As I was reading the manga ... I had asked myself a few times ... "Did I skip a page?" . Yes .. it was twisted and weird ... and the action ... was mostly told than showed ... but it was ok ...

I picked this up after watching My Own Private Idaho, vaguely hoping for something as moving, but all I got was something vague. It's difficult to even understand what's going on in these scenes, much less have any kind of emotional impact from them.

I thought it might even be vaguely interesting. However, all of the scenes have little to no impact, every event has insufficient development, the characters have insufficient layers, almost everything happens behind the scene, etc., etc. What results is a title where everything is just shoved down your throat and the writing is quite illogical 'cos we're not fully made aware of the entire cast's intentions, feelings, motivations, etc.
Even if it's adapted from a movie(one which I've never watched), the comic script could've added in some narration or some other element to really link up all the scenes and add more richness to the writing and the order of certain scenes could've been changed. As it is, everything is really dry and wooden. Ugh... why on earth did I read this? I gave up after the first chapter, btw.

I love this series, so I feel I should say something in it's defense. Not only is the story moving, it's realistic (particularly set against the backdrop of Japanese society).

I’ll only say this once, if you’re a person whom have a hard time reading sad tales, do not pick up this manga. If, on the other hand, you’re able to stomach anything, give it a try. The chapters give depth to the story, and it is well written, though the contents leave a bitter taste in my mouth and a piercing pain in my tummy. While I have cried both the times I’ve read it, and really wants nothing more to do with it, I still appreciate the telling and the art. I really am not able to stomach any sad stuff personally.
