Fighting the cliché.

I have a lot of issues with Yaoi and Shonen Ai, overly dramatic background stories, extreme and cruel twists just to add even more drama and gay couples everywhere instead of the actual couple making real progress.

This manga has all of this, too, sadly. But it is more of a comedy, doesn't take itself serious and stays very positive through the series. Already a good start.

What I love the most though is the strong acceptance of the uke. In the majority of bl I read so far, the uke is presented to be in some way inferior to the seme, often having no backbone and being presented as somewhat degenerate just because they are the uke, slutshaming and such.

In this story the uke is allowed to love sex and enjoy himself as much as he wants. While not the smartest, he is also very strong-willed and has a lot of backbone. This alone makes the story quite enjoyable to me.

I love the comedy, I love how cute it is as well. Reread it and loved it because of that.

Things I didn't like though:
-Aki can seriously be annoying, he acts like a 13 y.o. at times. I keep forgetting he's 25!
-That annoying trait some mangas (especially those by this author) have of all or most of the cast members being gay,
-the fact that it feels like every chapter is about one character being jealous about another characters relationship character A's SO. Ueda's being jealous about his brother, Aki's cousins, Aki's friends etc. It's pretty clear that the author is out of ideas and is just rehashing the jealousy plot for more chapters.

Also, the nipple play, calm down dude!

Conclusion: If you'd like a fluffy yaoi involving a straight seme and a horny uke, with lots of comedy and occasional serious moments, you'll like this. Don't read if you want a plot or a solid story line though.

Adorably domestic

Considering this manga involves yakuza you wouldn't think it would be particularly domestic or fluff. But that's basically what this entire thing is, the cop/criminal aspect is pretty much just an opposites attract plot device. There are some tropes in here but its refreshingly not too heavy in comparison to others.

I think my favourite aspect is it's basically just slice of life idiot couple in love, its so nice to find a yaoi manga that isn't, basically, sexual assault and dubcon every chapter. We have two people who love each other and enjoy sex with each other and its all pretty simple and sweet.

But I didn't used to.
I tried reading Honto Yajuu maybe three times before that, and I never could get over the art style making everyone look so young and cartoonish.
This time around though, I somehow got past it and marathoned the whole 8 volumes.

It's such an adorable series. I love how horny both Ueda and Aki are for each other all the time.
I love how sweet their relationship is, and how honest. And well, how hot. <3
I learned to appreciate the art and enjoy it. It's a bit sketchy and so pleasant to look at.

As for the plot, it's just heaps of fun. Besides the fact that I love a yakuza x cop type thing, the side characters provide a lot of entertainment, and I love how the other mobsters in Aki's household idolize him.
All the situations these guys get into are super far fetched, but they end up bringing the pair closer and just amuse me to no end.

I don't often wish for a series to drag on, but I don't feel that at 8 volumes it has. I hope this will continue for as long as the mangaka is interested, because I'm sure there're many more stories to tell. Besides, even for 8 volumes, there're only 17 chapters. x3

I've been reading a lot of dark stuff recently, and this manga really helped to make me feel warm and happy.

This manga is hilarious, well written, and the characters are easy to get attached to. The art is easy on the eyes too, and though there's a star crossed lovers dynamic, the writer doesn't exploit it in the least. It's a lighthearted, cute, heartwarming read to cleanse your soul of other less beautiful bl.

This manga is really cute! I love it! But sometimes Aki can be a little dramatic or he can be such a busybody. Through out the series the characters actually change bit by bit and I find that nice cause from some mangas I've read the characters change way to quickly or they don't change at all.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
the fact that Tomoharu went from a guy that didnt become horny whenever he saw Aki to feeling like jumping on Aki whenever he says something cute or act kyot.

This manga is great and I have to tell you that I'd be pretty sad if this manga ended but I think that it should end soon cause I feel like the author's running out of ideas on what's going to happen next. Like in the recent chapters there seems to be something missing like they have a fine relationship but it doesn't seem to go above the kisses, loveydoveyness, the sex etc. you know the spark the had at the start... And the new story's seems to focus on the new/other characters.

I really love the two leads in this. At first I was kind of neutral about them, but they grew on me fairly quickly.

I like that the author doesn't adhere to every single BL stereotype ever (like most do). And I love Aki's weird clothes and sailor's mouth and drama and all of it. Ueda is adorable, and I like that he's such a sweetheart.

I'll probably reread this when I can, and I hope it is still being translated.

At first, seeing so many volumes, I grimaced a bit and hesitated reading further one which was fueled even more when I realised, hey, yakuza son + cop. Lots of angst that can come out of that! But! It was a very lighthearted feel.

Those who like serious yakuza stories might want to read other stories but...

For those who want a lighthearted, funny, touching, erotic, and cute manga to read, this story is a good choice!

Please give the manga a try, it definitely leaves you with a good feeling smile

P.S. I agree with the other comments that the latest volume about characters other than the main two aren't done that well but I think it is still worth the read and I won't write the rest of the series off just because of a slight misgiving. After all, the feeling it gives the reader doesn't change even if more characters are given the spotlight.
