I was a little timid when watching the anime.. I hated the animation style. But as the story continued and the plot thickened i became less and less aware of the crap quality. After it ended and I still had many questions I knew I had to read the manga.

AMAZING UTTERLY AMAZING!
A very refreshing manga. I like manga a little rough around the edges. I hate the fluffy light highschool drama crap with bunnies and kitties and all that bull. Berserk is a manga LEGEND! I cant stop reading. Every second is like i get one step closer to heaven. I cant wait to finish it! I want to know what happens.

For you BADARSES looking for a BaddArs manga that will make you cream your panties while you slap a kitten this is it. Its just that insanely AWESOME.

Thank you manga god for creating such pure and utter manga perfection.
and Thank you Third grade reading teacher with out you my mind would starve for amazing gory demonic plot lines.

One of mine favorites. But the best part was up to vol10 or so (hawk band). For plot, anyway. And with magic intro... uh... magic sword, magic armor... I mean, wtf? Just hope this will not end as pirate manga - we have One Peace here already...

As for good points - this is truly epic legend, so nothing new.

And, may be, as compromate for future me - i respect Griffit and Guts looks as... um... good old and gone friend?

PS I wonder if name "Guts" looks as awkward for english-speaking as for me after translation...

Berserk was good in the beginning or at least it forced me to read it.
Then I once stopped my reading spree and saw no reason to continue,
maybe for the plot did not carry itself in a good form far enough.
In my opinion, this is one good manga that has been dragged too
far away.

I stumbled onto this manga, after some of the other fans of my favorite manga "GUYVER (an amazing sci fi read, great longetivity)" recomended. This is totally "the best" if I had stumbled unto this earlier this might have been my favorite. Amazing story, Great art and Awesome characters and theme. If you read manga, you'll have to read this!!!!!!!!!

This is an epic. I consider every second reading this to be time well spent. It may not be an easy read for those that cannot tolerate the depths of cruelty and depravity that have been depicted in this masterpiece.

I would Say that This is just awesome.

I have to say.. when I started reading this 12 years ago, I did not expect I would slowly start growing old and this one would still be going. Repetitiveness is nothing compared to the painful waiting. I do not have to say much. I gave up reading new chapters years ago, cause it was painful to wait for the next one and get all excited. Like it was mentioned and probably all readers feel, this is going to never end XD

One thing thought to comment; This was called a cash cow? How? By releasing 6 chapters a year? They are not milking the manga and the story. They are building it into a legend, so it will attract people even after it will be concluded and will never be called a fast releasing cash cow that has pretty girls to sell pvc models and cuddle pillows. A great investment at as it, I do wish people that started reading this and followed it since 89, will be alive on the day of the last chapter, so they can leave this world with no regrets or become earthbound spirits.

Usually this kinda of storyline is not my favourite kind. I am more of the comedy-ecchi combo like Love Hina so Berzerk is more or less the opposite, although I can think of worse ones like Death Note. I do not mean that Death Note is not good. On the other hand is more than good but its not my kind of manga. So I found out about Berserk through its anime. I was amazed that I actually liked Anime but something drawn me to it and because of that, a big empty hole was left after the ending of the anime. There is no way I would read the manga for another reason except the fact that I wanted to see the continue of the anime. Ofcourse that was how I felt in the beginning because as the manga continued I was drawn more and more to it.

I always believed that when something lacks at a certain attribute then if its strong at something else it can cover that. In stories the only thing that I do not forgive is a bad ending. Actually in games too. A bad ending to me means that the whole thing was bad. At any rate up to now (volume 30) I am still stuck and not tired at all. I can;t believe I read 15 volumes in one day without sleeping or stoping. This mangas really absorbed me. 30 volumes and still I feel that if it ends soon it will not be enough. I just hope the ending will be something good and not disappointing. I will comment this one more later.

I wanted to criticize all the people that voted 1. If someone gets to the point of voting a score so low ti means that they like manga of the same kind like berserk and they believe this one is not good. I always believed that peopel that do not like a certain kind of manga should not vote negatively for any manga of this kind since they would not like it anyway to begin with. Its like some stupid game reviewers that give low scores to game that they would not like to begin with. I remember an old magazine that reviewed games and there was a guy that kept reviewing RPG and giving them low scores and when he reviewed soccer,basket and generally games with athletics all had great scores. It was so damn obvious he did not like RPGs that it was like he was screaming it. So why do people that would not like a game and they knew nothing would change their mind to begin with, review it? The answer I got was a stupid one. He said that if a person that liked RPGs would review the game then it would surely get a good score. So he tried to show that since he doesn't like RPGs he can be fair scoring it. How can someone be so stupid and small minded? The game was designed for people that like RPG and not for people that would look for a fair side.

Personally I do not like manga of this kind but I scored it because I liked it, unlike Death Note that I disliked it so much but why should I score it. I did not like its kind to begin with so it would be stupid of me to go and rate ir with a raw 1. Well thats all I wanted to add ^^

It's the best manga in this genre ever!!! It's so perfect, so interesting and the art is simply amazing, the characters and the backgrounds, I mean you can feel it through the art. And the story, there is a basic idea and a lot of is added to their edventures and makes this manga so perfect.

Don't understand how people read Claymore and even say it's better, I really don't.

I don't understand you people who rate Berserk so low.
Some read the first volume and say it's bad... First of all you can't say that on such a long series and the first volume is also good but the real beginning of what happens throughout Berserk is told in later volumes(from v3 if I am not mistaken)
Lets say "Rain the Immortal"- the first volume isn't that great and the second one is only slightly better but the manga gets good after that(and it's only an 8 volume manga so far) so...

The LoTR of manga, in terms of scope and depth. Art is possibly the best i've ever seen. Characters are incredibly human, capable of great kindness and incredible darkness. Imagine a protagonist who's thrown into to the harshest and most hopeless of circumstances, and yet fights on against his fate. Anyone who thinks manga is light, kiddy fare should read this.

I'm a big fan of seinen and mature manga like Monster/Akira/Pluto/20th Century Boys/Real/Gunnm & cie. But I think Berserk is probably the best out there. I must say that the first three volumes aren't as good as the all others volumes which are wonderful. The 28 others volumes are great. Miura puts a magnific story, harsh medieval and human reality (even the "monsters" that we see are the dark side of humanity, their fear and their fantasies), and charismactic characters. The author puts duality between the characters and critics harshly the human race. The dialogue are so deep sometimes, it's would be on a quote topic. Love/Hate/Pain/Sadness/Enjoyement and Rage, all are there. It's a masterpiece. So do not only read the first three volumes but all the others too if you want to see what Berserk is really is, you will understand why this manga won a Tezuka price and the title of Best Seinen of the year at Japan Expo.
