Description

Rain Jewlitt, known as the Methuselah, is a spaced-out, immortal, 624-year-old man dressed in priest's clothes. He's got eternal youth and a large price on his head—put there by those questing after the secret of his immortality.

Machika Balfaltin is a tomboyish, energetic 14-year-old girl who, upon the death of her grandfather, sets out to kill Methuselah, the one bounty her assassin grandfather, Zol the Grim Reaper, couldn't kill. Instead, however, Machika ends up being saved by Rain again and again from other aspiring bounty hunters attacking them both.

I have to say that I've just spent my whole night reading this series since a lot of people said this one was great.
To be honest, those first chapters really amazed me, I thought this manga was gonna be cool. But then, the plot was going nowhere and I didn't really get what was going on. By this I meant why did Yuca have to do that to Rain? For what? He made everything seem so complicated. Luca was meant to be a villain in the beginning, well it seems like that to me.. but when he was reborn.. I don't know, he became kind of sweet.. The heck? When I was reading those conversations of Luca and Rain, they were always like "I don't want you to forget me.." "I waited you for 600 years", something like that. It feels like they are lovers O_O Seriously, when I'm reading this series, I feel like this manga has more shounen-ai elements than shoujo's, however, it's just my personal thought.
Furthermore, when I finished this series, I was like "Ohh that's it? So.. what was this manga really about like seriously?". Also, the way the manga ended just didn't make any sense.. How could Luca save Rain while they were with that giant monster? I know the mangaka aimed for a happy ending, but this one sounded just like fairytale.

The artwork is nice, not my type though, but it looks beautiful. However, I think the mangaka draw guys better than girls.

More than what I could have imagined

Read this manga, no matter what age or gender you are. I cannot believe I put it off for so long, this manga is phenomenal!!!! It was a perfect balance of intensity, action, romance,darkness and light. I would not have wanted this manga to change a bit.
One character that took my breath away was ms. Sharem. Despite seeming weak with her crumbling heart, she was the strongest person in this story. Really, I found her the most interesting and heartbreaking, as everyday she kept on living and trying to go on without her child. That itself shows the most strength in my opinion.
Some may find the beginning slow, as I have seen in comments below, but do not be discouraged! If you get past the shallow want of just a romance, this manga has so much more to offer. The themes, messages and deep plot was so refreshing and made me at a loss for words.
Basically, it is a story of lonliness. Each character has great amounts of loss, which makes them have that need to fill it with violence. We see the lonliness in living forever and what it means to be alone in the world. The poetic lines and the amazingly heart wrenching scenes made my heart stop more than once. I think this ties as my favourite manga of all time with only one other manga.
So... READ IT!!!

Meteor Methuselah is one of my favorites of all time. Though, if you are going to read it or pick it back up again, I recommend that you at least try to finish the first three volumes to see if you're hooked. It honestly didn't grab my attention, but after pulling through, it became my favorite manga of all time. Also note that TokyoPop has only released volumes up to volume 8. There are a total of 11 volumes and the rest have to be bought or you can read the scanlations online. (But please support the mangaka by buying her books if you can!)

Many of the characters are loveable. Some you might hate in the beginning, but most managed to prove themselves to be amazing in the end. Rain is a lovable goof and he has been described as being too kind, one of his flaws pointed out in the manga. Machika... I'm going to have to agree with another reviewer that yes, she does cry a lot. Rain does have to save her many times. I won't spoil it, but near the more later volumes, I do feel there are some positive changes in this. Yuca, I really enjoyed thinking of him as the villain in the beginning, but in the end, after learning more about him, he also became my favorite character.

The art is beautiful. It does get even better in later volumes. Ozaki is amazing at portraying emotions through her artwork and she's even great at showing motion in her fight scenes.

Now that the manga is over, I'll really miss it. I hope the author will create a new story someday.

Stopped after nine chapters...

I'd had this manga on my wish list for quite a while, but only managed to find it recently. Looking at the other positive comments I was expecting something good.
I ended up stopping at chapter nine.
It's my own personal preference but I hate characters like Machika. I can tolerate them if the rest of the story is good, but in this it stopped me from reading the rest. She's the type of character who is "strong" one second, then cries and runs to Rain the next.
Completely my own personal taste, but if you hate sterotypical female characters who act strong but are really weak, then I would advise you not to read this manga.

I kind of half read the review under me and i kind of agree only with the plot went nowhere. I don't understand the ending, i don't get how rain was all ok, i don't get what happened to Yuca at the end. This manga started off really great and its a beautiful manga, but it just sucks at making a plausible plot.
I didn't find the characters annoying on the other hand, and i had nothing against Rain being 600 years old. He broke the normal age barrier why can't he be a cradle-snatcher?? I LOVVEE RAIINNNNN

Rain and he's relationship with Machika is ridiculous all Machika does is SOB and cry rain, rain , rain, rain,rain, rainy, rain ...she's so ridiculous, she starts of saying she wants to kill rain then she follows him forming a weird obsession over this wimp then suddenly out of nowhere she 'loves him' . she cry's in each chapter !.. She's 15 and rain is how old ooh 600..People seem to forget that Just because rain looks young doesn't mean its okay to date a person that your 585 years older then ..

I call rain a wimp because he's a complete idiotic.foolish.PUSHOVER a babbling fool.without yuca rains nothing, hes immortal all he does is do reckless stunts and get away with the consequences because other people clean up his crap ! He's just a humanbeing that yuca toys with ..

I don't get the plot ? WHAT IS ACTUALLY GOING ON, WHERE IS IT LEADING TOO ? it was just a manga filled with pointless events and what makes if worse was in the begining there was thought to be a plot about an immortal guy that got turned immortal by some evil guy blah blah blah and now he's looking for the guy 600 years later and wants to find him and kill him , yeah that makes sense but then something dumb happens, when rain meets this evil guy called yuca, what does he do he just stares at him and let's himself get beaten up ...then says "I don't want to kill you, I want you to live !" My thoughts are "WTTF" this is the guy that ruined your life and all you do is nothing ...

The ending was also stupid , there was just pointless adventures throughout the story then all i see is out of nowhere Machika says "this is the final adventure" Whaat ?? What the flip lead up to that except pointless garbage..Seriously the only person I liked was yuca he was the only person I didn't find annoying everyone was so flipping selfish its unbelievable, I was only happy for him in the ending the two dumbos Machika, and what's his name gave of a 'pathetic vibe' they were complete losers .

I know people usually ignore the occasional bad comment but really I'm not usually negative when it comes to mangas , I don't know I must admit its not totally bad but for me personally no ..it was a letdown.

Simply Fantastic

The storyline it had was great because it branched out to so many things - adventure, painful experiences and emotions, and the sweetest romance you could get. The mangaka did a great job with introducing all of these - as the storyline was not cluttered, confusing or leaning too heavily on one genre. The characters were also one of the best qualities of this story. They were lovable, genuine (especially Rain and Machika) as well as dynamic and twisted. The story takes you through the journey of the "immortal" and the pains and consequences that it comes with. It ventures deep through the characters past, and the pains of utter loneliness almost flawlessly. And I personally enjoyed that it had a happy ending, which was not cheesy or too abrupt, but rather deserved for all the characters. Though the story was a bit long, once I got into it it had me hooked. T'was simply fantastic.

Immortal Rain is epic. There really is no other way to describe this manga. It has everything. It has plot, action, adventure, mystery, drama, and romance. The plot is just phenomenal. It's the kind of plot that ties everything together and leave absolutely no loopholes. The plot ties everything together structurally and emotionally. There's just so much back story that makes the main character, Rain, so interesting. Every character has a story, and every character grows tremendously in this manga. The chemistry and the emotional depth between the two main characters is just perfect, and the twisted logic behind the emotions of the other characters are so eerie that they're addicting. This manga is a must read.

I Personally loved yuca he was a compelling character, but i did hate the things he did. machika was annoying at first an annoying obnoxious brat, shes still a little annoying and weepy but not bad. i got sick many times of rain, he is can be sweet, but he can also be a cowardly pathetic character. the woman he loves is murdered, millions of peoples lives are destroyed, and he still gives a crap about yuca ??? and who can be so naive and innocent after living 600+ years, yuca was more realistic, he had become bitter and cold after living that long, theres no way anyone would be as stupid and naive as rain after all those years. he never kills anyone no matter if they go around murdering people, its like he doesnt care.

I read it and decided to get a hardcopy 'cause it was that good!! It's unfortunate that TokyoPop is gonna drop all their mangas, so I hope some other company will pick this up.

I'll say this manga is more shounen than shoujo. It have its cool epic moments like the fights and its sweet moments with the romance. Storyline is fluid and hooks you on. Character developments gradually grows and you don't feel like you got cheated out of anything. I can't wait for the next volume!!

Finally got a chance to finish this up. Again, I wish some other company pick this up. I really REALLY want to complete my set in hardcopy.

Rain's character development was really deep for me. As we get to know his story, I feel that's how his personality came from. Some people might call him weak and pathetic, but i think he's just your typical strong-but-very-kind guy that is trying to protect his precious people. He's simple-minded and kinda dense, just like me. I don't like to think of really complicated stuff. If I like it, I like it. If I hate it, I hate it. He puts others first and is a really REALLY caring guy. I'm not going to spoil it for people, and I think he thinks of that PERSON as his own brother, like familiy. It's like having a family member who does something selfish and stupid, yet still forgive that person. I totally could relate to Rain and for someone to call Rain STUPID should try to understand Rain where he's coming from

And as for Machiko, I think shes your typical girl who is very emotional. I can relate to that. She's a young girl, why can't she be a crybaby? At the age of 14, girls goes through emotion. They are happy, sad, etc etc etc. I remember I was quite a crybaby when I was young. It helps explain Machiko's insecurity sometimes. Her only close person to her, grandfather, died already and now she doesn't want Rain to leave her. I can see that as being real. She's not annoying.

Anyway, if you wanna read and give it a try, go ahead. For me, this is among the best I've read and it was among the first hardcopies I've bought. I'm still hoping for a miracle that the rest of the volumes will be licensed so I can happily put the rest of the set on my bookcase.
