I was hoping that this would be a manga to stick with for the long haul like Ase to Sekken. Unfortunately, we only get 20 short chapters. According to Yamada herself, it was always intended to be this way; she confirmed as much on Twitter.

Honestly, it's just a waste given how excellent the FL is and the down-to-earth, mature way events were handled, just like in Yamada's previous work. I guess the consolation is that Kasane to Subaru is still ongoing, although that is clearly the lesser of Yamada's current works. I wish that one had been axed and this was still going, but that's how the idiotic cookie crumbles, I guess.
