From Dark Horse:
His name is Guts, the Black Swordsman, a feared warrior spoken of only in whispers. Bearer of a gigantic sword, an iron hand, and the scars of countless battles and tortures, his flesh is also indelibly marked with The Brand, an unholy symbol that draws the forces of darkness to him and dooms him as their sacrifice. But Guts won't take his fate lying down; he'll cut a crimson swath of carnage through the ranks of the damned - and anyone else foolish enough to oppose him! The Definitive Fantasy Manga

This is by far the greatest fantasy manga and one of the best mature-rated manga ever. The huge amounts of gore, violence, and macabre themes might turn some people off, but the sheer story-telling is great and the artwork is second to none. It's definitely a winner and despite its great length its something an manga enthusiast should read

This is one explicit manga. An epic, yes. A masterpiece, yes. Very very gory, yes.

Berserk is still, to this day, THE best Manga series in existence.

I had seen this manga been mentioned a lot and thought it wasn't good. But for the heck of it i downloaded a couple of volumes and liked the story, I continued and I couldn't believe it had took me so long to notice this manga. I recommend it, probably you might want to wait till is finished, It's a 32 volume long at the moment and i think the end will take place around volume 45-50. I never really pay any attention as to how many volumes are released per year (average), but i think there are still a few years before the story concludes.
it's great

After I saw the first episode of anime my interest in Berserk turned off for a long time, but after hearing a lot of praise, I downloaded the manga.
At first, I found it a bit too... ugly. I have read first phase of GANTZ, so gore isn't any news to me, but I couldn't really get used to all those ugly monsters. I sighed with relief when manga went into a huge flashback, and that's where it started becoming great.
After the flashback ended and manga was in present time again the ugliness did not bother me... I guess I got used to it by the way.
When a few more people joined Gats it started feeling even more great, though at some point my mind made an "OMG! It's like some RPG!" alarm go off, but I have faith in the mangaka's skill and hope that he'll make story good enough for my suspense of disbelief to stop being broken.
Ignoring some minor flaws, it's an awesome manga. It's serious, but it doesn't get too dark for me to handle. Characters are wonderful, well-developed and still developing. Artwork is one of the best I've seen. Plot just draws you in.
It is rare to me to fall in love with a manga this much, it is not just another manga; it's like a great fantasy novel + great art. It's something awesome for a die-hard fantasy and manga fan like me.
