So I'm tired of the girl always choosing her first love, childhood friend, guy she met once in childhood, guy who did one nice thing for her that one time, guy who "saved" her that one time, etc. and NEVER moving on and falling in love with someone else!
You guys know what I mean, right? What's with this fixation on just one person for their entire lives? Don't give me this "destined lovers" or "fated meeting" shit. Most people have more than one relationship before finding the right person (and not just rebound relationships which result in them running back to the first person -- god, so many times I've wanted to kill the protagonists for that).
So, my request is that someone PLEASE find me a manga where the childhood friend/first love/etc actually has a decent shot and actually loses to someone else who comes along. Meaning, I DO want there to be such a guy hanging around, and I DO want him to have a decent chance with the girl (not like one of those childhood friends who sort of hover in the background and act as comedic relief, he should be a serious contender), but I want him to LOSE to someone else who come along later.
I would love for the manga to actually depict a romantic relationship between them and then a break up with her getting together with a new guy and actually being happier, but I'm not sure that such a manga even exists.
Some examples, I think?
Hatsukare -- Kind of. I'm looking for something that would give the childhood friend better chances, since it doesn't seem like she even considers him a prospect at all.
Peach Girl -- Another kind of. Having never actually read this all the way through (the characters were too annoying), I can't say for sure. However (according to wikipedia), she ended up with someone besides her "first love" (unless she fell in love with Kairi first?) and that both relationships were depicted. However, having Kairi save her before she met whatshisface goes against what I'm looking for.
17 (SAKURAI Machiko) -- I liked this up until the most recent chapter in which the guy got all angsty over... well... those of you reading it know what I mean. However, this probably has what I'm looking for, since she's getting over her "first love" and may be getting a new boyfriend, perhaps?
So, any suggestions? I know this is a bit of a toughie. Please, NO yaoi, shounen ai, yuri, shoujo ai, or hentai. Thanks

Hotaru no Hikari
Tenshi ja Nai!
I like this general idea, and thought of a couple similar threads as I was reading your post. These might help:
Main "Couple" Sees Other People Before Ending Up Together
Shoujo w/ unpredictable pairing?
Edit: oops, should have checked your lists before I posted. I see you've already read the two I suggested. Hope the threads will be of some help, at least.

Good ending isn't finished but it certainly contain it (even if it isn't actually childhood friends).
