What? I read other books of the same theme. It's all the same......to me, reading a book on a prostitute isn't really my idea of relaxation. Are you offended by Mad TV? Perhaps you could call them and maybe they'll make a parody of you. 🙂 And bodies, come on, how many of them do you think stayed untouched. They all want money and well, there's a faster way to get money then selling their art.
I saw the movie, never read the book. I was deeply disappointed. Instead of reading some Tragic story on prostitutes, I prefer reading autobiographies and such by the survivors of the Atomic Bomb blast during WWII in Japan.

i used to read loads of books till i had read all the good ones in the library. then i started on manga. i like books like david gemmel. something with raw truth and wars. Anne rice is good too. for the person who first posted i say: we don't ONLY read comic/manga most manga rwaders read books too.

Novels about romance, history, fantasy, detective
Books about Psychology, NLP
kids, family, teens, schools
and books about Islam, Islamic history

Anybody have any specific books that they liked? I have been to the book store lately and only buy manga cuz I can't think of anything else worth reading. Can someone recomend me something they liked specifically and why they liked it.

Last thing I have read was Jitterbug Perfume by Tom Robbins. And re-read Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams.

i started the famous one.. but didnt finish it because i was satisfied halfway.. and fed up with reading on my comp.. and now i can't remember even the name 😕 the one with the marsian coming to earth.

A Song of Ice and Fire. Best modern fantasy ever.

I read the Rape of Nanking. It's a pretty good book, but I ended up having nightmares(i was in the 4th grade).

Also, it's pretty classic, but Orwell and Asimov are awesome. There was this one other author, but I can't remember his name.

I like both of those authors, and the next person that comes to mind is Kurt Vonnegut. His most famous book is Slaughter House 5. But, my favorites are Breakfast of Champions, Sirens of Titan, and Slapstick.

Or maybe try out some Hunter S. Thompson?

OMG, BunnyBear, are you me!!!! 😕 I love Both Kurt Vonnegut and Hunter Thompson! Rum Diaries is probably one of my all time favorite books ever. And I went through a spat where I read just about everything Vonnegut did a few years back. I like Dead-Eye-Dick quite a bit as well as Breakfast of Champions. I wasn't too thrilled with Hocus Pocus, but I guess it's pretty hard to write as an artist when you've been a writer all your life. Do you by chance read any Kafka? He's another of my favs.

I read Kafka's The Metamorphosis, in 8th or 9th grade. I can't remember much about it, except that I'd never want to be a giant bug, stuck in my room & it's a really moving read (suddenly feels old). But kind of in that same sort of vein, I also like Phillip K Dick. In a completely different direction, I've enjoyed Charles Bukowski's novels (for some reason, I just don't do much poetry), Somerset Maugham (Of Human Bondage, is the longest and the best) <-- both are more slice-of-pitiful-life writers

Gawd, I could go on and on...

I feel like manga has been rotting my brain, I haven't read much else in the last month or so. I hope the suggestions keep coming. I couldn't have read everything worth reading, right? 😢

I've read the Artemis Fowl series, I love those books.

Also the novel version of Battle Royale. It's superb, better than the manga and movie. It's really in depth with characters' backstories.

Mary Shelley's Frankenstein is amazing, one of the greatest novels I ever read. I plan to read Bram Stoker's Dracula soon.

I'm a huge fan of Stephen King. I've read Carrie, Gunslinger, Rage, Long Walk, Roadwork, Running Man, Cell, The Dark Half, The Stand, Gerald's Game, The Shining, and I'm now reading 'Salem's Lot. The Stand is my favorite book of all time. I don't find his stories scary at all, I just love his writing.

Manga Fan Since 2002

Lately I've been reading Murakami Haruki, quite interesting and also rather bizarre stories that leave me wondering if a lot has been lost in the translation or if they're bizarre to Japanese readers as well. My favorite so far of the 4-5 I've read is A Wild Sheep Chase; Kafka on the Shore and Sputnik Sweetheart are also good though Kafka has some rather disturbing elements. I've just started Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World, good so far. 😃

I've also read several Japanese cookbooks, but I don't know if that counts. 🤣

Like I said, they weren't expected to remain pure, but from the sound of it in the book, they did quite well without selling their bodies.

Oh jeez, was Eragon really that bad? 😕 I think the Harry Potter movies turned out pretty good, even though they left some stuff out, but that was pretty much expected...
