The author was clearly trying to show that those types of desires should be accepted, and thus they were in the world of fiction.
The author wants them and such a person to be accepted but didn't seriously discuss them. The "romance" is too unrealistic and annoying. Many don't realize its ridiculousness. O_o It must have a desperate target audience.
@reid1
I am sure most of those who like it because they don't find the characters detestable at all and actually think the "message" is good. 🤣

[Just snipping for space, don't mind me]
I'll stop after this one as well, especially since the majority of what I would say in response I already reiterated in my reply to base_coat (honestly, I'm not totally sure why I bothered in the first place- I do agree that it's overrated, I just don't carry the negative opinions to the same extent). In any case,
he's not accepted by the majority of society- they just sort of go along with it... the author is idealizing the scenario in the ending, as I said earlier, in order to emphasize what's basically the theme of the story, which, as I said in the very beginning when I talked about the need to suspend disbelief, is what causes the deviations from realism.
However, I don't think it's totally outlandish anyway. The progression of the majority of the characters, his girlfriend being the possible exception (I'm going with the author having little experience with romantic ventures here), is in-line with what the author has indicated with there character development previously. They wouldn't have forgiven him if the girl had revealed it instead, which is sort of the point.
and, @basecoat: The purpose wasn't to discuss the issue directly but merely present an idealized variation thematically. The reader is supposed to consider it as a result, not necessarily agree- it was a doujinshi, not a serious discussion, it's ultimately the low form of what is generally considered to be a low medium. The author has no reason to delve any deeper.

Hetalia - sorry, but it's true.
Vampire Knight (hate to say it, but it's true.)
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya THERE. I SAID IT.
Ooohhh, Haruhi can change the world whenever she doesn't get her way, oh, JUST HOW WONDERFUL!
...I also want to say, Case Closed, But I haven't read it enough to really see for sure...but seriously, JUST END IT ALREADY!
A LOT of yaoi manga being licensed [don't know their names] over here...most of them don't even have somewhat of a plot, it's just sad sighs.
Not to say that isn't the same for a couple of shoujo and shounen.
Okay, I'mma done now, I don't remember really anything else XD.

Negima. more specifically, when kung-fu got into the mix. akamatsu's character art are just too stiff and awkward to make it all flow well in any action sequence.
while many would have wanted Love Hina 2, i was hoping it'd be about "boy teacher helping out his students using magical items, hijinks and hilarity ensues". i would have also hoped for the lack of romance around Negi, but alas, this was an akamatsu manga, no chance of that not happening.

Fuck it
Akamatsu had a lot of problems with his Editor, because Akamatsu wanted to do a battle manga, and his Editor wanted him to do Love Hina 2, and Akamatsu should do whatever he wants to do... you don't like it? then don't read it... you think his work is overrated? then you can say so, but don't pull shit and say he should had done Love Hina 2, because writers and artist should do whatever they want to do, if it sells ALRIGHT, if not, TOO BAD.
You wanted him to do a "10 years old boy-teacher helps teenage students with magic and whatnot" that sounds DULL and BORING as HELL, so I am pretty grateful, akamatsu kicked his editor in the groin and turned Negima into a battle manga.
and to me, is one of the best battle manga out there... only inferior to One Piece (and I don't like One piece)

Overrated: To overestimate the merits of; rate too highly.
Vampire Knight, Tokyo crazy Paradise, Hot Blooded Woman, Naruto, Superior, Saver, Kateikyoushi Hitman Reborn!, and a lot of other shoujo titles i don't care to list.
As much as I enjoy Naruto, it is far far from my favourite manga.
I'll also agree with Mikashi. A lot of Yaoi manga is overrated because IT'S ALL THE SAME!!!
I don't think Fruits Basket is overrated, I think it lives up to its name very nicely.

omg what a piece of shit this is
starts out awesome
then we meet characters who does not explain the situations
so there will be long chapters where the protagonist needs to find out about it
then fix the problem
so we get a 10chapter story arc where usualy 8-9 of them are just padding
then we bring back popular chars from the dead
not to mention that the protagonist is useless for 99% of the time
and relays on a silly medalion to summon unbeatable super soldiers
wtf
its so bad
and everyone seems to love it

Vampire Knight. It didn't seem so bad until vol 8. I am still up-to-date on the chapters since I'd gotten so far already and it'd seem like a waste to drop. But yea...still slowly truckin along.
Also Bitter Virgin, Akuma to Love Song, Ouran High School Host Club

Other than the big shonen jump three (OP more so than the others) its really the type of fans that hype it up, there's nothing wrong with it becoming popular.it had to have some sort special quality that made it popular. I think Tenjou Tenge it a bit overrated where the backstory and the side plot lines are much more interesting than main story ,power up chapters, or even the main character never liked him at all, standard issue shonen hero type.

The most overrated manga are also my most hated shoujo manga: Fruits Basket, Vampire Knight, and NANA. These manga are not as special as everyone makes them out to be, and NANA is just downright bad.

Naruto
Bleach
One Piece
Soul Eater
Air Gear
I'm also tempted to say Highschool of the Dead, but I haven't read enough to be the judge of this, although I think it is. (the bewbs are surely overrated 🙄 )
I think they are all still good, though. They're just too overrated, not bad (with the exception of Air Gear).
Edit:
Death Note
It was food and all but it definently has had too much hype... well, I think L's hype is justified as well as the apples, but other than that............... yeah. 🙁
Edit 2:
At Blique, if you go to the main page (forums) and scroll down a little you might see that Highschool is one of the top 4 series forums... I'm not totally sure if that means it overhyped, but yeah... 😕
I care waaaaay too much... 🙁

Vampire Knight is the otaku Twilight, ne...
I'd say Naruto. It's an excellent series, but a lot of otaku newbies jump on it and declare it's the best on Earth and whatnot. Same with Vampire Knight.
People actually like Highschool of the Dead? I've never seen any fans, so I assumed it was underrated. XD It's a great series...even the ecchi is well handled. Distracts me enough to keep the zombies out of my nightmares. >_>
