For a girl, I'd go with Hikari from Special A. She pisses me off so much. I mean, no one that smart is really that stupid. Just... arrrg!

And for a guy, Makoto. There's been more than enough said about it, but I agree with anyone who concluded that he got what he deserved. Idiot.

For girls the list is pretty much neverending, but Komatsu Nana and the main character from Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne and Mitsuki from FMWS, Usagi and her neverending denseness and...scratch that. There's far too many to list.

And Keitaro whats-his-name from Love Hina. His idiocy scarred me for life and if the loser dude from Sekirei doesn't come to terms with his lameness soon, I'll put him on the list too, along with all other harem leads.

Still, my top two biggest idiots in a romance plot have to be Hatsumi from Hot Gimmick and Hiyoko from Love Monster. I can tolerate denseness pretty well from some characters, but for some reason these two really REALLY bugged me.

The biggest idiot and loser is Akitsuki Yamato from Suzuka, and the author, Kouji Seo is a loser as well for making character like him.
He always talk big at how he would become the fastest runner, but end up being nobody. He impregnated his girlfriend and gives up going to college. That's really sucks...

Akitsuki is an idiot kind of.. but Suzuka is worse then that, the poor guy chases after the girl he likes and has to deal with somebody like Suzuka lol.

And being confident is not a problem it's not like he was cocky.

BASICALLY I BLAME THE WOMAN, the woman caused the Protagonist downfall, not he himself.. he was the effect, not the cause.

To topic, stupidest protagonists I can think of is the guy from Nagasarete Airantou, how can you not accept that...

"Why", you ask? I can tell you why. In response to your defense of him, so what? She may have seduced him (that's a matter of interpretation), but Sekai was the first to suggest that they need to tell Kotonoha. Makoto was the idiot saying that they shouldn't. Grant it, Sekai did make the mistake of not telling her when she had the chance, but that was both Makoto's and her fault (since he was there). Plus, if she was seducing him, he could have still stayed faithful (I know it's not easy, but it's still very possible if you want to). I didn't necessarily blame Makoto for wanting to be with Sekai (at least not at first, but after a while it became obvious that he didn't love Sekai, he was only using her for sex; and she was easily replaced by a bunch of girls after she stopped going to shcool for a bit), but why would he just keep on playing with Kotonoha's feelings like that. It was obvious from the very beginning that Kotonoha was fragile (both physically and mentally). Of course she was going to become the way she did if she was betrayed like that. If they would have come clean after their first "experience", yes, Kotonoha would have been hurt and depressed for a while, but she wouldn't have gone insane. However, since they didn't, she kept on believing she was Makoto's girlfriend and grew deeper and deeper feelings for him. After that, being betrayed by him was no longer going to make her simply depressed, it was going to damage her mentally.

To make things simple, the reason Makoto is to blame is because he did not man up and end his relationship with Kotonoha like he should have. I don't want to say he got he deserved, but I wasn't sympathetic when it happened.

It's for this reason that he is the number 1 biggest idiot protagonist in any harem. I also felt that Manaka was an idiot for a while, but at the very least, he didn't play with those girl's feelings. He was indecisive, yes, but his indecisiveness did not mentally damage people like Makoto's player mentality.

And I was someone blaming Toujo for not getting with Manaka. That is partially true. Both she and Manaka were to blame. It was obvious that they loved each other more than anyone else, but their personalities prevented them from getting together. True, if Toujo would have confessed earlier, they would have gotten together, but if Manaka would have confessed, they would have also gotten together. That is what really made the ending sad. It wasn't Toujo not being picked, it was the fact even though they loved each other more than anyone else, they weren't going to end up together because neither one of them could confess.

Sakai Yuji from Shakugan no Shana, at least these guys REALIZED they were being liked by the opposite sex. Yuji didn't know Shana liked him until like the last episode of the anime and he didn't figure out Yoshida liked him either until really late into the first season
