xombie to most people the death isn't real, frankly its not even real to you or me. We didn't know the person, anyone involved with the person, and probably anyone who knew someone who was involves with the person. Hell in the time it takes me to write this message at the very least 100 children will have died of disease and starvation that could probably have been easily prevented, but I sure as hell can't spend time mourning every death or else I couldn't live my life. Given the fact that there is no real reason to personally mourn his loss, its not the end of the world to laugh at the way this person died (no, its not the most respectful thing to do, but I doubt 10% of the people not connected to this child’s death that heard about it didn't at the very least let out a nervous chuckle)(and if you are laughing simply because some random 10 year old died, regardless of the reason you need serious help).

The only thing that really gets me is the gall of some people here to bash the kids intelligence, and think that he would have died due to natural selection anyways. News flash people you probably did something almost as retarded as him when you where younger, just got away with it, I know I sure as hell did, multiple times at that (oh and fyi, I am most definatly not a member of the short bus). The kids death was an accident nothing more, a group of kids that were clearly not thinking (because I KNOW you can tell me EVERYTHING you did when you where younger was thought out) got a silly idea, and the mob mentality set in (mobs = morons, even if the members are intelligent themselves, its just the nature of the beast (see my sig)). By the time anyone could figure out wtf happened the kid was already dying. Granted this group of children are probably fairly immature for their age (10 is a little old to be doing crap THIS retarded), and I doubt Mensa will be seeing any of these kids any time soon, but still it was an accident, nothing more. In summery: His death was extremely stupid, and in many ways humorous, but kids do stupid s**t all the time, they just didn’t get away with it this time so its kinda unfair to blame him. Theres a reason the Darwin awards are only given to adults.

Interesting argument, but let me say something in defense of all the people here that said "Natural Selection at work" in response to this.
If is a fact that kids (in mobs especially) do pretty stupid thing, and I do not deny I've made my share of stupid (very stupid even) mistakes, BUT please, try to explain to me HOW a your average 10 year old can even try to get buried INTENTIONALLY HEAD FIRST and WAIST DEEP into a sandbox and think that he has even a remote chance of survival...
This act doesn't even register on a hypothetical "stupid meter". Therefore IF in fact that kid INTENTIONALLY got buried in such a way, this is just nature's way to get rid of USELESS GENES. Just imagine if this "stroke of stupid" got into the kid's descendants. We can potentially have human lemmings. Ergo this could be Natural Selection at work - only the ones fit live on to pass their genes (in this case the kid might have not been smart enough to survive).

Anyway there IS other possibilities such as a joke gone horribly wrong, if the kid had terrible luck. It also seems likely that the kid was buried like that against his will as MajorMarmot suggested. Even if that kid was mentally disabled in some way when he was being put in the hole HEAD FIRST and the other kids started to bury him, he would have tried to get out by reflex (because of all the sand getting in his nose/years/eyes/everywhere). When you can't breathe you try to do everything so that you can breathe.

But if the kid really though that he could breathe under sand and got himself buried voluntarily, then I can't imagine this to be anything other than a classic case of natural selection.

If he was my little brother I probably would have told him burying your head waistdeep into the sand is a BAD idea. BAD, BAD idea. And if not I would have atleast made sure I wouldn't leave him alone with other 5 retarded kids that think recreating stuff from animes is good. And if he was my kid, I would've realized it was my own damn fault for being a horrible parent and wouldn't go around blaming other stuff for my incompetence. Because it's just like the old saying: If you can't be a responsable parent, BLAME THE anime/internet/tv/computer/your cat/school/whatever.

I agree with xtr3m3dude wholeheartedly. If he would've survived, I think he would've tried something equally retarded again. It's a combination of bad genes, horrible parenting and letting the kid unsupervised.

It creeps me out what parents and kids are nowadays. I watched Dragonball at around 6-7 and didn't go around beating people up and pretending to be Goku/Vegeta/whatever. I wanted to jump off the 2nd floor at around 5. But I had common sense and survival instincts that told me that would be a BAD idea. Someone said we do crazy stuff as kids, but get away with it. Did anyone of you try to breathe in sand? No. If you did, I'd like you to come give me a survival story 🙂

So I don't feel bad for them the least. Actually I'm still laughing out my intestines. Bring on the hate 🙂

Where has all the common sense of the world gone? Heck, where did this kid's instincts go? He was buried head first, in one foot deep sandbox. The moment he felt in trouble, his instincts should have told him to sit-up or at least claw like mad at his face to clear sand away.

On a lighter note, to try to cheer up my gloomy post, what if the the kids had attempted the "Oiroke no Jutsu" or "Sexy Jutsu" instead? Can you imagine explaining why a bunch of kids are running around naked pretending to be ninjas?
