Ok so I'm bored, procrastinating from revision and was just wondering how old everyone was when they discovered manga/anime. Just a fun poll and feel free to list what manga/anime it was that first pull you in.

For me I was around 9 when I got caught up in the Pokemon craze as a kid and followed it for a few years but never went any deeper. Then I discovered Wolf's Rain anime and Spirited Away was released when I was 12 and suddenly I found myself heading deeper into the rabbit hole.

I have been watching anime all my life
for my dad likes it, but I realized the
difference between cartoons and anime when
I was 12.

my big bros used to watch DBZ when i was a kid lol so it's 5-8 for me ^^ but i must say that the first anime i watched with all seriesness was Gundam Stardust memory, as for manga~it came much later and i deiscovered it using scanlations. ^^

I was fifteen and shocked at how I could've been missing out on this for that long. I realised my childhood was a wasted one - I played outdoors instead of watching Gundam. Terrible.

anime, probably had seen some before 5 years old (macross). Well back then didn't know the word anime (learned it when i was 16... with the popularity of DBall and some other anime series). Manga when i was like 18 or 19 years old, first manga i read was Rurouni Kenshin and then found scanlations and here i'm.

Around 5-8 years old for me, when they were showing Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball, and Rounin Warriors here in the United States. I mostly watched English dubs on TV until I discovered fansubs and manga through my cousin, when I was around 13 or so. Didn't get into scanlations until I was 16, when I saw a pic of Naruto post timeskip and realized how far back America was in terms of stroylines for the ongoing series published in America. Then I found this sight last year and everything just snowballed into what's on my lists.

15 (last year) but i did watch sailor moon ond such when I was younger. I dont think that counts cause I didnt know what it even was until 10 years later.

Well it seems most people were watching anime years before they even knew what is was, gotta love our international world we live in. Also the running theme seems to be a discovery of anime before a discovery of manga. I named my first anime but forgot to mention my first manga (stupid considering this is a manga site) My very first one was Fushigi Yuugi since my friend lent me her volumes but I only read up until 6. Angel Sanctuary was the first manga I ever finished.

Keep the stories coming guys, they're interesting as well as aiding my in my procrastination, lol. I would read a new manga but then I really will fail my exams. lol.

my first anime was cardcaptor sakura so it was when i was about 12- 13. i didn't start manga until a couple of years after when i read hana kimi. 😀

The first anime I watched was when I was aroung five, it was Fly (Dragon Quest) and Dragon Ball. But even though I watched though the entire series of Runouni Kenshin and Yu Yu Hakusho I only came to realize that it was anime when I was around 14 and watched Love Hina. After that I looked up on the internet for the episodes and found a very good site of anime uploaders, that was the same year I discovered about manga, being Love Hina the first I've read.

there were many old series which didnt make into anime , those super robot series XD. But then I really like macross, heaven war shulato. As for manga Ive been reading it for quite long before I noticed that it called manga, we just say its japanese comics in our language.

Grade ten, so... 15 for me. Though I did watch and fall in love with Spirited Away when I was 14, but didn't get into it more than that until the next year.

Ok so I included a list with my original post so people can easily look at everyone's firsts. Will try to keep this up to date as long as this thread continues but I'm in England so if I don't update for a few hours I'm probably asleep.

I was probably about 9 when my cousin and I stumbled onto Dragonball Z, and continued to crave for it (though we had seen it at a motel, and neither of us had satellite). I think I must have been 11 when I discovered manga. The first thing I remember reading was an issue of Shonen Jump that the same cousin gave to me when he moved away. Now my addiction is only manga, and neither of us watch anime anymore.

When I was 21 I properly got into it. Though as a kid I was already watching Dragonball on some French channel.
I am 24 now.
