Somewhat of a tall order...

Greetings all, and thanks in advance!
I am looking for a manga/manhwa like Kagetora in that we have a powerful male lead that protects the female lead while holding back on his own feelings of romance. The problem is, I would like for this manga to be a bit more adult in nature. There needs to be serious situations not just comically rendered ones.
Pluses:
Romance
Bodyguard
Seinen (Not a must-have, just a preference to keep the level of seriousness up)
Drama
Feelings of inequity (from male lead)
Unrequited love becomes Mutual - or even Unknown mutual feelings
Detractors:
Comedy (only if it falls into slapstick, Full Metal Panic! level is fine)
Shounen (only the hyper-shounen nonsense of no-one EVER dies!)
Ditzy male or female lead (light is fine, but complete oblivion is too much!)
Incomplete (only slightly irritating, currently juggling twenty plus series' and am getting tired)
Deal Breakers:
Shounen-AI
Yaoi
Tragedy (total loss of male or female lead at ANY point, yes I know Chrono Crusade was epic, but it hurt too friggin much!)
Cancelled or broken endings due to rush (MX0 anyone?)
Thanks again fellow readers. I greatly look forward to your suggestions!

Current list of recommendations:
Youko x Boku SS
Until Death Do Us Part
City Hunter
9 banme no musashi
Kanata Kara
Otogimoyou Ayanishiki
Pairon - White Dragon
Bara to Dangan
Hanatsuki Hime - completed after recommendation. Thanks for the read!

I haven't read them myself, but...
I'll take those into consideration. Actually I read some of Youko X Boku SS several months ago. I dropped it because I was afraid of catching up too quickly. I consume manga ravenously. I read and read until I run out, so short and/or incomplete stories usually get burned down within the day and I am left sitting and waiting. Happened more times than I can remember honestly.
Thanks for the help, all the same!

You said male, but for a non ditzy male lead protected by a very professional female character, with romance involved where the stronger one holds back it's feelings.
Incomplete (only slightly irritating, currently juggling twenty plus series' and am getting tired)
It is complete, however I believe it's not completely scanlated. (And I doubt a group is scanlating right now) It is however in arcs that kinda give a kind of closure everytime.
Dengeki Daisy
Fits quite good actually, give it a try.
Bitter Virgin - protects the female lead, holds back his feelings, adult in nature, and completed series. The only thing is that he's not "powerful", but as the only person who knows her secret, you could say that he holds more "power" than anyone else.
Kanata Kara - protects the female lead, holds back his feelings, powerful male lead, and completed series. The only downside is that it's not adult in nature.

9 banme no musashi huh? I have never heard of that one. I'll add it to the list. Currently caught up with Dengeki Daisy. I'm not much for shoujo, but that thing is EPIC!!!
Thanks.

Thank you, I have read that one many times! Perhaps I missed that one in my reading list. It is far from complete. 😀

I agree with...
Until Death Do Us Part.... A LOT of assassins in one place... [Now: 130+ chapters]
Recommendations:
~Youko x Boku SS---->Doesn't hold back his feelings except in the 2nd half of the releases.
~White Dragon. Man for hire... [Complete]
~Gangsta. Men for hire... Adult situations & little bit of comedy. [Now: 13 chapters]
~Otogimoyou Ayanishiki. Fantasy/Time Skip...slightly child-ish. [Complete: 5 Volumes]
~Zombie-Loan. Supernatural/Men for hire. ~ I think two guys were "maybe" after her? [C: 13Volumes]
~Ibara no Ou aka "King of Thorne" ---Survival manga. [Complete: 6 Volumes]---Adult-like situations.
~Her Majesty's Dog....About Volume 5 is when the "feelings arise." Master-Pet Relationship.
---->One shot: Bara to Dangan. Partners/Bodyguards.

Thank you very much for those! A couple made the list! Zombie Loan gets a pass. I couldn't quite stick with that one. Ibara no Ou - King of Thorns, was good. Read that one a while ago. Same goes for Joousama no Inu - Her Majesty's Dog. Very good.
Thanks!

I thought of Dance in the Vampire Bund when I was reading your post.
Maybe Vampire Game?

Oh yeah..."Kamisama Hajimemashita" since you like "Her Majesty's Dog" it's very similar, but you might have it on your list already. [Now at about 66 chapters]

Thought you wanted Seinen.
Thought of some more that fit:
Blood Alone
Shingetsutan Tsukihime but they're both kinda powerful
Basilisk maybe
Hoshi no Samidare but she's stronger than him
Btooom!
The Sacred Blacksmith

Yes thank you for those. Current on The Sacred Blacksmith. Have finished Shingetsutan Tsukihime and Hoshi no Samidare. Started Blood Alone not too long ago, glad someone could second it. I hope it turns out well. Had to drop Btooom! the first time I started it. Can't remember why, but since it gets a nod, I'll give it another go. Sorry but Basilisk hit's a deal breaker.
That whole lover's suicide thing. shudder
About the Seinen comment. That's a plus for me. I grow tired of stories that don't push the characters with real danger. Watered down peril is like a wet blanket. Rurouni Kenshin is a good example of how to keep tension and peril in a non-Seinen manga. I should have added a comment next to my Seinen request to that effect. Thank you for pointing that out for me.

Hrm, I can't quite remember why I dropped that one. I'll give it another go since it got a nod.

Yes thank you. I am current with that one as well. If only I could find ten more just like it, I'd be set! drool
