Cheh, I'll leave out the demographics

  1. Comedy (Without comedy everything is just boring to me)
  2. Action
  3. Mystery
  4. Romance
  5. School Life
  6. Fantasy
  7. Supernatural
  8. Gender Bender

For demographics:

  1. Shonen
  2. Yaoi
  3. Shojo
  4. Seinen

I stay away from horror, josei, yuri, shojo-ai, mecha, sci-fi, shota, lolli, harem (unless it's reverse), Smut, and tragedy. Don't usually like ecchi, but if it's like GTO then it's fine. Everything else is just... Meh.

My favorites are usually psychological, especially when it's mixed with good supernatural or horror (think Hitsuji no Uta or xxxHoLic). But really, I like anything that delves into a lot of moral gray, which isn't very genre-specific, I suppose.

I'm also rather fond of seinen romance/slice of life hybrids (Yesterday wo Utatte, Bitter Virgin, etc.)

I like to think that anything has a chance to succeed regardless of its genre. Good storytelling is good storytelling, no matter what the setting or premise is, so my list ends up being pretty diversified (well, that's also a result of my excessive free time, but whatever.)

my list says comedy, seinen, action...

but my favorites would be slice of life/seinen with a hint of comedy (like Azumanga Daioh and maybe romance (Solanin ) ...sport is sometimes welcomed (like in Ping Pong) also light mystery and some sci-fi (Pluto)...

but then again i can enjoy a good josei or even shoujo...or some silly shounen harem like Ai Kora...

PSYCOLOGICAL! HORROR! SCI-FI! SLICE OF LIFE! MUSIC! TRAGEDY! YAOI (w/ plot. Yes, it exists people!) FANTASY!

Ahem Despite my profile which says I read yaoi more (lot's are oneshots, ore only one volume) I don't really limited to my genres/demographics. The overall thing that matters to me in a story is plot and the characters (and their development). It also depends what mood I'm in.

Going over the genres, I figured the things I don't like are:

  • Harem (including cliched reverse harem aka FIVE)
  • Lolicon/shotocon
  • hentai (unless it's yaoi >.<)

And I'm not a big fan of yuri, smut with het pairings or echii(as the main plot for the manga, as a sideline it's fine =3) Although echii is kind of a wide range. So the echii that fanservices for guys is kind of a turn off for me. I'm sure it's the same for guys if it's the other way around.

I pretty much like everything else, but for genre's like shonen, and shojo, the ones that are overly cliche annoy me a lot! Although I can stand the cliche's in shonen more than I can in shojo (aka Zombie Powder!! I only read the first volume, but wow! I could predict EVERYTHING that was going to happen by the end, especially during the fight scenes. It wasn't surprising at all. I'm planning on reading some more to see if I will like it better.)

I also like shojo if the romance is not much/none at all. Recently, I found that I'm particularly enjoying the seinen romance (Hoshi no Koe).

So Seinen/Josei > Shonen/Shojo
I love the mangas that have to do with music (aka Beck, Nodame Cantabile, Nana).

I really can't bring me down to a favourite genre, but I really love the ones that make you think, or make me close to tears. Over dramatics are tiring, but I can't tear my eyes away from them (100% Perfect Girl, Nana.

Also, I love the shonen ai elements in manga. But then I want more, so I go back to yaoi. Some of just for entertainment, but there are a lot with actual plot. (Just reading authors like Miyamoto Kano or the one who wrote Haru wo Daite Ita. There's also Crimson Spell, The Finder Series...)

And then there's sci-fi, fantasy, gore, and horror. Which all awesome and greatly entertaining (if done well).

So in the end, it really comes down to the certain story. I don't really like excluding any genre, because the story may just be REALLY good! (Like mecha. I thought I didn't like but then I say Code Geass and the Gundam series. It would be such a shame if I missed out on it). So I like to keep an open mind.

I love comedy, because if it's not funny then it's generally either depressing or boring, which is no fun to read. Romance is okay. I tolerate it and even enjoy it from time to time. I mean, you pretty much have to, or else you'd have nothing to read.

Um...what else do I like? I guess gender-bender is pretty cool, just because it's so funny watching (I mean reading) the characters trying to keep the secret. And I like a little bit of action, as long as it's not too extreme and doesn't eat up the whole plot.

School life is usually entertaining, and I like fantasy and supernatural from time to time. Sports are pretty good, again, as long as the whole manga isn't just about that. Mystery is fun to read, though thus far I've never managed to figure out a clue before the characters do...

Likes (From Public Lists Only)
Romance (102), Comedy (93), School Life (62)

Ecchi and Harem would be bonuses.

Genres that I dont like are: Gender Bender, Horror, Josei, Lolicon, Mecha, Shotacon, Shoujo, Shoujo Ai, Shounen Ai, Smut, Sports, Tragedy, Yaoi and Yuri.

Am I picky? 🤢

Shonen-ai, comedy, drama. Romance, too, of course.

:-( Argh why do I have so much comedy yet I don't like it. Anywho I'd definitely say Action, Romance, Drama, and Psychological. Yuri, ecchi, and martial arts are good enhances, but shouldn't be central.

Maybe I should try yaoi one of these days... I've never really tried the hard stuff.

Any recommendations?

I think I like school life, but I'm not crazy about slice of life. Fantasy is very good, of course.
