I would love to read a yaoi or shounen ai that feels more like a typical shounen like One Piece or Deadman Wonderland (etc).

I'll be specific so that it's clear what I'm looking for.

A good amount of action. Anything really to do with fight scenes. They can be fists, guns, magics, whatever. Just not anything that seems really awkward and out of place for the story.

Characters that look like boys/men. Now I have nothing against feminine guys not at all it's just the pandering type of uke characters drive me nuts. Basically just nothing that's too girly. That's just my preference this time around. I also dislike long hair on men it makes me think of females.

No stereotypes. I really hate the whole uke / seme thing most of the time. That's really not how it's like in reality. So a more realistic relationship would be great.

And I would like it to not revolve around school life. It can if that thins my choices out too much but, I would prefer it not to.

Something that isn't a billion chapters long would also be nice. So something more current or short. Also if you think of a long series that fits this criteria feel free to mention it but, I'd like something shorter or just starting.

I would even be fine with a Shounen manga that just happens to have a gay male lead.

Thanks in advance!

All I can think about:

Yellow It's really good!
G-Defend It's still ongoing, but if I remember well there is that seme/uke thing you don't like.
Jadou But it's supernatural.

And:

Gamerz Heaven!

Gamerz Heaven seems interesting and I added all of these to my wish list thanks! G Defend looks intreging enough for me to look passed that.

You could also try out acid town- really good
jinjuu houretsuden and asterisk by the same author of G-defend
toukaidou hisame-kagerou
silver diamond
ai death gun this one's real short and sweet
number
You could also try vassalord
And could also read the novel of No.6
These are not that "shounen-ai-ish" but the hints are still there. I guess most of these press down more on the action part.
Hope that helps. 🙂

Almost forgot keep out and toxic by Takahashi Ryo- omg I really loved toxic (toxic's not exactly shounenai but it does have the vibe)

You should try Ishihara Satoru's manga. Several of them aren't scanlated (probably because they're not generic enough, orz), but out of the ones that are: Afuresou na Pool, Shounen wa Asu o Korosu (but these two are school-life) and Yarouze! fit your request pretty well. Try the others, too, though. Especially if you dislike girly ukes, because there's none of that in her stories.

Maybe Motoni Modoru, as well? I can vouch for Dog Style, at least.

Sougiya Riddle -- Only subtext. Ditto for Shounen Hakaryuudo and Hakudatsu no Masquerade.
Macaroni
No. 6 (Novel) -- Only subtext.
I personally think G-Defend has way too much seme/uke stereotyping to fit the OP's tastes. Jinjuu Houretsuden is better on that front.
Dogla+Magla
Ilegenes and sequel -- Only subtext
Vassalord has action and a very badass 'uke,' so...
Wild Adapter
Loveless
Ninja Slayer - Glamorous Killers probably fits very well, but it's not being scanlated, sadly.
Hai to Diamond, perhaps.
Fake and Border (KODAKA Kazuma) sound like they fit, but I haven't read them yet.

And, um...Toxic (TAKAHASHI Ryo) isn't BL at all. Unless you count the fact that most of the villains seem to be weirdly obsessed with guys (though more in a "I love to torture you" way).

Thank you both for your suggestions. I added the ones I thought might be up my ally to a new special list so I don't lose them. I've read and watch FAKE and Acid Town I'm half way through (really, really like it a lot). I've a read a few more of these too.

I really resonate towards Border it looks like my cup of tea so I think I'll start there. I recently finished Apocalypse no Toride and couldn't help thinking man, one gay character would be nice in this story. There's just not enough in manga outside of yaoi. I guess since the target audience is primarily straight males it makes sense.

Anyway that's another conversation I suppose.

Just remembered a few more:
Honoo no Mirage (Novel) -- Lots of supernatural + action, though it's not shounen-esque: more like action shoujo-esque.
Yami no Kodou -- Same as above.

How about X, RG Veda, and Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles? They're very action-packed, and while the main relationships are all straight, this is CLAMP, so there's a tonne of slash subtext.

I think the problem is not that there aren't enough gay characters outside of yaoi, but that yaoi/shounen-ai offers practically no diversity in terms of plot, setting or characters; 99.5% of the time it's the same-old, same-old. Japanese BL fans have terrible taste, imo.
