but i mostly just dont understand why they're even seinens and not shounens or something.....

Because that's where they were first marketed successfully, and therefore will continue to sell. A seinen manga doesn't actually have to be more mature or something (though typically popular themes help), it's just whatever publisher is willing to take it on, if the market likes it, why complain?

Why is Chii's Sweet Home seinen? Or for that matter, why are things like Gantz in the first place? They've proven that they can succeed with those themes in that market.

Seeing Crenshi already said all the smart and relevant things i'll just say i wonder if josei/slice of life with boys would be a success?

Humor in those is more mature and has many more cultural references...violence, action, sex, psychological themes are not the only things that make a seinen...and of course it depends on the publisher.

I don't know. Because it's interesting?
Stuff like Chokotto Sister, My Girl (Sahara Mizu), Usagi Drop, and of course, the ultimate Yotsubato! are fun to read.

And I personally think that it's cute how guys enjoy it^^
Erm, when it's not in a twisted way...

yeah yotsubato! is about a normal relationship between father and daughter...its a good manga...and i think its a safe manga...
if the theme is just like yotsubato, i think theres nothing wrong with it...

and again i said, if the manga contain anything like pedophilia...errr...i think that manga is for freaks and psycho

My perfect example would be Yotsubato. And seinen is for grown men I guess, they may appreciate a bit of manga about family humor, or a courageous daughter.

comedy 😃
If it's not too extreme with relationships and stuff, like Youtsuba&!, then it's okay. Generally, I enjoyed reading Yotsba&!. But if it reaches into other kind of lolicon or smut, then no...
Otherwise, I don't mind it.

Why? Those girls are in the last year of high school or something, right? So how can enjoying that manga be considered as evidence of being a lolicon?

Well, I'm not a guy and I enjoy those types of seinen way more than ones like Gantz, Berserk and Onani Master Kurosawa, what with all the sex, rape and seemingly endless nudity - so I'm not complaining.

And assuming that Japan is full of pedophiles because Yotsubato! is popular among male audiences is like saying all Japanese men are S&M practitioners because Nana to Kaoru has such a huge fan following 🙄

Erm, I guess grown men still like to fantasize about cute little girls?

This is off topic, but I've often wondered exactly the same thing, with the magical girl theme. I guess that's why all the transformation scenes have a certain degree of nudity...

dunno, the way they were portrayed? and because i was watching in the living room and it felt weird w/ my sisters behind me.
also it got boring.

I haven't watched a lot of magical girl stuff, but I wonder what kind of audience they are aiming for, since isnt neccessarily moe. wait this is more off topic.

Because a large number 18+ males enjoy watching or reading about cute little girls. I don't see why people treat this as a shocking or even abnormal thing. It certainly has nothing to do with pedophilia - there's nothing sexual about it. I think it's pretty sad that this is the conclusion that a lot people jump to.

I don't think I can explain the appeal, but I understand it. Have you read any of the stories in question?

It could also stem from a paternal nature to nurture and protect them.
