This is a division of the "Best Shoujo Cliches" thread, but devoted specifically to plots. Like the love triangle, or the love square, or the "main character going to a boarding school for the opposite gender", or hate turning to love, whatever. But under plots. I was thinking that I usually prefer to have a plot where the couple is trying to deal with an outside problem, rather than the problem being something that divides them, or threatens to wreck the relationship. I'd rather have them trying together to keep the hero's identity secret than have the heroine's ex-boyfriend, whom she's still a bit sweet on, show up. What do you like?

A plot where you just don't know who will end up with who...

I like the romance stories concerning co-workers, or with people fighting together. Such stories are realistic and interesting.
All that love triangles, school loves and emo romances only make me sick

More realistic romances with less bishies that are like demigods in looks and achievements. In my opinion bishes are the bain of all things romantic. If it has a bishie, then i puke =( (altho that's my opinion on SHOJO romances, if it was a guy romance, then HAREM FTW!!!!)

I hate those bishies, but I don't really like harems either.

I like harems because of how outrageously unrealistic they are. Only flaw in them for me is how stupid, average and useless the main guy character usually is.
Yup.
When the ending comes and he must pick one girl,
there'll be that super angst that melts my head.

Hahaha yea
Although in some of them it's incredibly obvious who the main guy is gonna pick. Like in Shakugan No Shana, even though it's not complete, you can already tell he's gonna end up with Shana. Yoshida doesnt stand a chance.

I have ah 'cycles' of romances I like. Lately I love to read about student/teacher relationships or daughter/step father. It depends on my mood, really. But yes, romance between co-workers are okay. And I like school romance - but not those clichéd. There aren't many of those. I like something believable, like Socrates in Love. Yup.

my preference is school romances, but i like most anything. i just cannot stand the ones where as soon as the relationship is set, the girl just loses interest and must help everyother she meets with their problem. its like taking the romance angle that worked and jsut sitting on it until the last chapter

Yep, I agree, I like it when they're working together to deal with something - even if they're not technically *together* at the time. Getting to know each other, cooperating, etc.
I also like it when they've known each other for a while - not necessarily best friends or worst enemies, but at least known of each other's existence - so it's not the whole "love at first sight" thing, because that seems more like "lust/physical attraction at first sight" & thus not likely to last.
I also love a good dose of comedy in with my romance, even if it's pretty silly. Taking life too seriously is a big no-no for me.

I love it when both halves of the couple are in complete denial. and romantically retarded.
