My life is basically a story of me trying to get a girl, while having to over come the obstacle of other guys that are better looking, have better social skills, are more talented, or a combination of the traits, trying to get the same girl, so I enjoy mangas that share the same story as me.
So in a nutshell, can anyone suggest a manga that has an average/unattractive guy trying to get a girl?

Pretty much any shonen romance ever written.

But, if you don't mind reading a shoujo manga, then you will definitely like Saruyama! as it has essentially that exact plotline: pretty, smart, & cool girl falls for the nice kid everybody makes fun of. Meanwhile, the nice kid's best friend (who is the resident ultra-popular bishonen) decides he wants her for himself. But no worries, the best friend isn't a jerk (mostly) and the girl really likes her boyfriend, so there's not piles of melodrama.

You can try I"S. It's quite good. Not very shonen like, it's more seinen, yet it manages to keep the art and the laughs, I guess.

Lego & manga. The building blocks of life.

I'd say that most of the popular harem shounen manga are like that.
From the bunch of them, I'd suggest Love Hina and I's (already mentioned). Or something that I don't like particularly but fits like Ichigo 100%, Pastel, etc...

Read/watch Bamboo Blade. There is a fat small guy who gets a really hot evil chic because he reminds her of her old pet. It's pretty funny. Good enough manga even if it didn't satisfy your requirements.

Just gotta warn you (big post, and), what you've described pretty much indicates a lot of shounen harem romances, so there will be a lot of those recommendations in my post. Although, overall my list is pretty damn varied.

Ciguatera. Great Seinen romance/drama. Can be somewhat depressing/anxious but that's because it's truer to life.

Good Ending the series.

Onidere for sure. It's a secret though. Just battle through the first ~15 chapters (might seem repetitive) and I think you'll enjoy it.

Toradora! maybe?

Kimikiss - Various Heroines (and KimiKiss - Sweet Lips) basically the premise of the series. Ordinary guy gets with a beautiful girl.

To-LOVE-Ru Maybe. I haven't finished it yet though.

Nyan Koi! although, the ridiculous degree to which the females are all attracted to him suggests that he IS attractive, but... whatever. I think it fits Nyan Koi! fits the bill. Honestly, nyan koi is just plain awesome so read it; I can find no fault with it. And he hasn't yet 'scored', but there's definitely romance developing, which is somewhat odd for a harem series.
Koe de Oshigoto! a little bit of a stretch... and the main character's the cute female in this case.
