I read shoujo quite a bit but I actually love shonen, even the more typical ones. The only thing i really hate is extremely drawn-out plots, which can happen in any type of manga. Right now i like Nabari no ou, Dogs and Reborn.

Alot of it is kinda......lame.

But some of it is quite good.

It just depends on the title.

I don't hate it, I enjoy a lot of shounen, but I certainly don't enjoy it as much as I do with shoujo. For me to enjoy a shounen, it's gotta have awesome art and an interesting plot.

A lot of it IS lame like Naruto and Bleach with the repetition. Other shounen titles like Katekyo Hitman Reborn and D. Gray Man are actually worth my time. It's all just based on personal taste.

It's not that I hate Shounen but I'd choose Shoujo over it anytime laugh I do read some Shounen though, but I don't enjoy it as much as I enjoy Shoujo shy

Depends on the title... I generally enjoy shounen than shoujo though...
I'm picky about manga, but a bit pickier about shoujo manga (if not, then I'd be wasting my time reading the same plots in different mangas, as I had done while reading random one-shots)

I think they're might even be female-aimed Shounen like Reborn and D. Grayman. Just look at the Doujinshis, and you'll get what I mean. D:

Well, Shounen is most of the time generic, but when it isn't (like Tegami Bachi!); it gives you quite an entertaining read. smile wink grin

Naruto/One Piece/Bleach are the three Shounen giants right now, so it's hard not to have heard of them. Anyways, it was mere speculation. roll

I used to love shounen, but have recently lost interest in it. I guess that I grew out of it and can't stand the stories (unless they're really good) anymore. So the only ones that I really follow are Naruto, Bleach, D.Gray-man, FMA, the really good ones. I prefer seinen and josei equally.

One thing you guys need to understand is the culture manga comes from. In general, Japan likes clichés. That's why you don't only see them but they have names. Falling in love with your childhood friend... Girls that are hostile outwards but kind inside... Guys whom make it to the top by hard work and determination... These things are admired and as such, they will always be shown over and over. If you don't like them, you might as well stop reading manga and try American comics when you'll find fewer.

I personally don't hate clichés. What I hate is when there is no deviation from them whatsoever so the character ends up being a cookie cutter standard. Take Death the Kid for example. He's the "alpha male" character. He's the son of the guy in charge and has already accomplish the goal all his peers are striving for. He's on top of the class plus he uses two weapons whereas the rest use only one. He's often calm, confident and even has a slightly bishounen look. I found him boring until the moment I learned about his often crippling mental disorder. Not only does the pursuit for perfection go with his character but his obsession with symmetry is his greatest flaw. Because of that, he's my favorite.

Hate shonen ?? NO WAY!
How can one hate an entire demographic (save for yaoi and yuri [if they count])?

Anyways, all for the shonen mangas. Actually, all for any manga; just show me a great plot, great characters, good art (okay, well when it comes to shonen, I frankly don't care about the art very much >.>, it's just a bonus), and I will read.

And just to wonder, for those who don't like shonen-ai, does that mean you exclude series' like X-1999 - Tokyo Babylon (both CLAMP titles), Count Cain - Boys Next Door (both Kaori Yuki), Let Dai, etc - since they have or imply it? Or is it if it's the main plot for the story? Just wondering...
