Believing in God

did you mean thread? you don't have to talk in here if you want....there's always other threads about manga....although i think someone should move this to the chatter box, 'cause you don't have to be over 18 to express you opinion about religions or god, and this being in a sub forum of "manga topics" is not suitable to talk about something other than mature/adult manga.....

Yeah it should probably be moved. Too many people in here trying to sell christianity for my taste. But fine if you guys want to continue that's your problem. I was just saying you know a manga site is for manga related stuff but whatever I'm not gonna argue with ya. I'll leave.

You know...I can't believe it took me this long to notice, and someone probably said it already...but why is chu in the adult (18+) section?

Honestly i don't believe in god. Its hard for me to believe everything was just made by something that we can't see out of nothing. I believe in the science of things and evolution. Created from something.
I believe in both science and god, it's simply that science in still young.
That very true, i'm sure there is something more around us that isn't discovered by science. What's with all the Qi (chi) stuff which isn't just a fiction of some author. We shouldn't be surprised if science discover this too.
I believe and feel than in every person is a good core surrounded by many layers psychological created.
This positive something in everyone would be the nearest thing to a god.
So every concept of a god who is telling us what to do or not to do would be wrong.
Like this, god is simply in everyone of us and the most importend thing would be to believe in yourself.

If you guys must know, this thread isn't in the +18 section anymore, BUT that doesn't mean I want this thread heading down into the dumps either.

evolution is about shaping and perfecting a being, so that'd explain how we have 1 electron for each proton in an atom....the intelligent design theory pretty much imply that god had created us perfect from the start, which, to put it plainly, is a load of crap to me....we are still evolving, and our bodies also evolve to fit in with the environment we live in...did you know this, but the flu virus continues to evolve into different stages as it goes around infecting people, it's contantly changing, and why? because the white blood cells in our bodies know how to absorb the information and evolve to fight out the flu when it gets attack too much....the common flu is a virus, which means you can't take medication to stop it....probably to sooth it, to make you feel better, yea, but since it's a flu, you can't cure the flu with medication....but after a couple of days maybe, it'll go away...that's because the white blood cells know how to absorb information and help to build up our immunity to that current stage of the flu virus....
Nowhere does it state that "the intelligent design theory pretty much imply that god had created us perfect from the start". Intelligent design is more of a claim stating that "certain features of the universe and of living things are best explained by an intelligent cause"
Probably the strongest feature of the universe supporting intelligent design is physical limitations. The laws of physics must have values very close to those observed or the universe does not work "well enough" to support life. What happens when we vary the constants? The strong nuclear force (which holds atoms together) has a value such that when the two hydrogen atoms fuse, 0.7% of the mass is converted into energy. If the value were 0.6% then a proton could not bond to a neutron, and the universe would consist only of hydrogen. If the value were 0.8%, then fusion would happen so readily that no hydrogen would have survived from the Big Bang. Other constants must be fine tuned to an even more stringent degree.

god didn't create us as perfect as we can be right now from the start....we are the one that were able to adapt to the environment and evolve as time goes by....scientifically, we were all apes or monkeys or whatever thousands of thousands years ago, we were only able to evolve and learn how to stand up right, because of our own instinc and adaptation....nothing is perfected as it is from the start...the animals, the plants, and us, have all learned to change to be able to survive in our environment...if we haven't learn how to stand upright, or have a bit of intelligence to know how to hunt, we probably wouldn't be able to survive to evolve to a more advance stage....you can go look up the evolutionary theory of darwin on wikipedia, or something, and you can find actual facts to back it up...in my opinion, that intelligent design theory is just some a concept created to counter darwin's evolutionary theory, because apparently, some people just don't want to believe that sometimes long ago, we were lowly beings like apes with brain the size of a walnut....
I am not discrediting natural selection nor am I implying that humans may have not come from apes. What I am simply implying is that the well being of apes or whatever they "evolved" from would certainly require some intricate and most definitively an intelligent design. For all we know, whoever designed the universe could have implemented natural selection. Anyways, they are both theories and therefore can both be discredited. I personally like to believe that I am something with a purpose rather than a byproduct of a far fetched possibility.

Well I guess we knew that Chu would go around any part of the site (she even said she looked in the 18+ section in her introduction thread 😉). But I think the stuff that she reads in yaoi manga is worse than what's in the 18+ sections (so far, but I only maybe "peeked" into the forum about a month ago and I tend to only bother with the topics that show as recent ones on the front page) since that stuff is more graphic, unless the people in 18+ talk about explicit stuff (I didn't see anything like that when I peeked).
I'm surprised this thread went to 13 pages pages in about 1 or 2 days...15x13=195 posts! Since it grew so fast, wouldn't this be the fastest-growing thread yet on Manga-Updates? I suppose the existence of God is a hotter topic than something like same sex marriage... 😐 I would've thought the latter would've generated more talk, but I guess with the site's type of people it's the former.

@SyaoranX
to be honest, i don't understand your paragraph about the hydrogen atom, the nuclear reaction, and forth....all i know is that intelligent design is the "modern form of the teleological argument", which was based on the theory that god created the world, and that pretty much set me against this theory in the first place....intelligent design "implies that life on Earth must have been designed by an intelligent agent or agents", which would goes against the theory of evolution, because supposedly, it's not possible for us to evolve by natural causes to our current perfected form...the fact that intelligent design relies on a higher being or force that "designed" life rubbed me the wrong way already... as complicated as each living being on this earth was shaped, we cannot simply plot in as able as we are right now....how can everything achieve its perfection right now?....how can there be an exact amount of hydrogen atom to be able to form nuclear fusion?...it all takes time, time for the chemical, for the bacteria, to experiment with each other, to be able to form the perfect combination, chains of small molecules that is the basic of life, or DNA....
intelligent design claims that there's an intelligent force intervened in the process of life, of the evolution of chemical reaction, of how life on earth was formed...there's actually facts and solid claims that backed up theories of how life was formed on earth, but what about the intelligent design? apparently there's no witness to how the "intelligent agent' works to design life on earth....also, what makes this theory more shabby to me is the fact that "The leading proponents have made statements to their supporters that they believe the designer to be the Christian god, to the exclusion of all other religions." this just proves that those proponents aimed to claim that jesus, or whatever christian gods there are, intervened to create life on earth...and what, or who do you think created them "intelligent agents"? they can't just pop up and design the whole universe in a flash....
ps: i'm not against you or anything, just against this whole intelligent design concept...call me wary or something, but i don't like the theory that there's a higher intelligent being that design life here....it sounds like beings on earth are merely products and toys of those so-called agents...

Lalala... God only exists to those who believe in Him.
I don't believe in God... rather, I don't believe in the existence of the exact Christian, Jewish, Islam, or whatever other religion's God.
There may be a god out there, but for now, I reject his existence because of the lack of direct evidence.
I'm happy that there's discussion about all of this... but to tell you the truth, I didn't read most of them... because I have probably heard (and argued against/for) most of those sub-topics.
So! Just stating my opinion~ 🙂

Do I believe in God? Yes. Religion, no. I don't think anyone knows how God works. I don't think we're supposed to know. Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, etc., I don't think any of them are right. I used to agonize over all the evil and unjustness in the world and wonder how a benevolent God could permit such things to happen. I've slowly come to the conclusion that God does not work in the ways proscribed to him by man, nobody knows how he's supposed to work, and maybe we won't even understand after we die. But that's the way things are. I'm slowly becoming comfortable with this idea, something an upbringing in Christian theology never brought me.

In my eyes religion is just a story gone way to far, the fact that it has lived for so long is proof of humanities stupidity. As for God he really does live in all of us, he's called self consciousness. The Idol "God" is just for those people who absolutely need an object to worship with their spare time instead of contributing to society. As many humans fail to admit their own failure they always seek something to blame upon..oh hey there's "God" At times of pain/agony one will also turn to God.
As people become more helpless they'll turn to God it's not hard to see that by looking at all war deprived countries in this rooten world.
God is just an imaginary invisible thing weak humans can blame, depend on. It really is pitiful having to see people waste their time on things such as praying 😔 when the only thing they do is trying cling to their tiny hope that is ultimately decided by the
difference in human mind and envoirment.

Although many times people do blame God for the failures and short comings in there own life, God is so much more than that. For me God is my strength my best friend my wisest councelor, and the person I turn to for unconditional love. God loves us all so much it breaks my heart when we think of God as are enemy, especially after all the love he displayed on the cross.

Ok.....let's make a rule that will force everyone to give their stand on this subject. Whoever posted on this topic, except me because I'm special, are obligated to also post their opinion. This includes the mod and the Admin. Nothing personal, but everyone has to obey the "unwritten rule" written by me just now. And I'm an exception because again, I'm special. 😛
Yes, I'm special cause I got a cheese cake, yes, cheese cake. 😛
Oh wait....the mod and admin already did post their opinion.,...hmmmm...looks like I have underestimated them....
Ok, Zubz313, I don't want to here anymore preaching. I have already heard enough of it on the subway....
We all know God is great. The issue here is whether he exists or not.
