Im looking for a story featuring a socially awkward character which shows the humorous side of not fitting in with others rather than the usual tragic and angsty side. Perhaps, for example, about a protagonist who tries but fails miserably to fit in with other people - but in a humorous way rather than in a tragic way. I found I absolutely love reading about a main character who would love nothing more to work with the 'in-crowd' but because of some flaw in their character or looks, are simply not able to. Worse yet, they go to huge lengths in order to fit in - often with humorous results.

Good examples such as this are Kimi ni Todoke and Oresama teacher, in which both main characters try desperately in their own ways to get along with others. In kimi wa doki the main character tries to fit in by being overly friendly but actually looks scary in the process. Oresama teacher shows a main protagonists humorous attempts to hide her delinquency from others through her unsuccessful girly act.

Another side to reading about socially awkward characters is when they actively stay away from other people because of some flaw in their personality or looks. In this instance its humorous watching the characters desperate attempts to not fit in. Perfect girl Evolution is a perfect example due to the fact that she hides herself in her scary appearance and by actively avoiding others

Any suggestions for a story featuring such a character such as this would be greatly appreciated. Ive been reading to much comedy lately but cant seem to get enough of it. 😀

well at the top of my head i would suggest "Full Metal Panic"

Even the anime is great, fumoffu spinoff is probably more up your ally, but while your at it the original story, atleast the first one is a good read to get to know the characters.

the anime has "Full Metal Panic Fumoffu" as the anime that only shows the school stuff and not the mecha part, well apart from bunta-kun (i think that was the name).

The manga does'nt have fumoffu, but the "Full Metal Panic! Comic Mission" is the mangas "fumoffu"

not sure if its this kind of manga you like, but Cat Street and Beast Master have people who have problems with society.

maybe Akuma to Love Song its quite funny how she try to fit in

Angel Densetsu would probably be a nice one to read. Although socially awkward is putting it a bit light.
