Not sure what you mean by best but here's a few novels that I find enjoyable 😀
Ore no Shibou Flag ga Todomaru Tokoro wo Shiranai (Novel)
Marginal Operation (Novel)
Koshaku Reijo no Tashinami (Novel)
Utsuro no Hako to Zero no Maria (Novel) completely translated
Hope you enjoy these as well!

Mushi-Uta (Novel) Underrated. 😲
Shuumatsu Nani Shitemasu ka? Isogashii Desu ka? Sukutte Moratte Ii Desu ka? (Novel) Very unique.
Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku o! (Novel) Funniest comedy LN. 🤣
Senketsu no Elf (Novel) A merciless drama. 😢
Toaru Majutsu no Kinsho Mokuroku (Novel) Regularly placed in the top 10 of the Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi rankings. 😎

The Chronicles of Ghazi (have you heard it?). It is a history based fiction light novel (indeed a "light" and "lite" novel).

If not, then how about some biblically "Bungaku Shoujo" or musically "Sayonara Piano Sonata" for fresh starter?

If you crazy enough to a chalenge, try "...Monogatari" series.

If you're one of those people who enjoys reading the very first iterations of something like I am, pick up Boogiepop and Others (novel), which I believe was the first ever LN. I enjoyed the series, but they only have 1 through 3 and 5 translated. Thinking of dropping Yen Press a line about it actually, since they're doing Log Horizon (novel), No Game No Life (novel), and a lot of others right now
