Hello,

I'm looking for a manga where the main characters attend a military or magic academy and a war eventually breaks out, involving the protagonists. The characters go about things like any normal teenagers (they fall in love, make mistakes, try harder, etc), just in a military or magic academy. The closest thing I've read in manga is Freezing. Other more well-known examples would be the Harry Potter series.

Political intrigue is a huge plus.

I've only read a few chapters but Shingeki no Kyojin fits.

I preferred the anime cause it dealt with action better but the fan-service harem part was a bit excessive imo
never read the manga/novel but I heard they were better at explaining the feelings/drama around certain key war-based events.

Well~ I know you are searching for manga. But you could try out the Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn Mini-Series. It fits your requirements almost perfectly.

I think Hand x red has a magic school that goes to war, or more like is attacked and they resist...

Aphorism counts I think, it's sort of an honours school with survival elements and super powers...Also you get various classes that go against others and all sorts of other internal fights...

Blue Exorcist has a bit of war...there's certain arcs where the students fight alongside the adult exorcists...

Does Ares count? Its not a school as such, its a mercenary troop which has captains, dormitories and mandatory weapons training...with a LOT of war.

Ciel is a magic school and they fight against monsters when they get older and I thiiinnnk there's something close to war later on...theres certainly quite a few harry potter-esque magical conundrums...

Nightschool also has the magical/supernatural school with a lot of fights bettween various people and strange happenings, it hadn't gotten to war by where I've read up to but it gives off that sort of feeling like there's going to be a pretty big climax...
