It would seem that it is a poll flood...
and I typoed the question. =<=
I have this habit and I was just wondering if it was common,
cultural, or an individual thing. When someone passes me
when I am walking down the street and speaking with someone,
I stop speaking.
I go completely silent, even if I was humming or something.
Not even a sound of inhaling.
Sometimes I even forget what I was doing. D:
I find it rather bothering and I was wondering if anyone
else has this habit and/or finds it troublesome. 🤣

If you think that this poll already exists, feel free
to blow it to smithereens.

It matters what my friend and I are talking about 😀

I never stop talking if a stranger passes by. I don't mind if anyone listens to what I say anyways, I have a good word filtering system so I won't say something that'll ruin my four years in high school. 😀

No, except when we're talking about them, which is pretty obvious when we suddenly shut up.

I usually do quite the opposite.
If I was talking about something I don't want the person passing us by to hear, I swiftly change subjects and keep on talking.
If I'm talking about a random subject I usually stop talking... Don't know why. It just feels awkward.

Edit... I just realized I might have misunderstood your reply. I still don't get it thought. I'm tired...

Being in the city, I have people surrounding me 360 about 12 inches away, so no I don't give a rat's arse about people passing by while talking to friends.

I don't unless it's something i dont want them to know. I don't care unless it's something that might offend them or something like if for some reason we were talking about race jokes.

it's a stranger, don't usually talk to my friends about things that can't be heard by others in the first place.

now if it's someone I know, then it's another story.

I doubt anyone would, with crowds come anonymity. This phenomenon I would think only happens among small numbers in semi-isolated places.

To answer the question, yes, I try not to, but it usually happens anyway. 🤢

It depends on what we're talking about. If it's personal, I stop talking. If it's normal speech (like "That movie rocked"), then I continue talking. No need to be shy. ^^

People's ears usually tune out stuff that doesn't apply to them anyways. Well most, I tend to pick up useless info from people babbling around me but it's not like I'm planning to black mail anyone....

I keep talking until the stranger stares at me, that I'd realize I'd probably said something weird.....

otherwise, if you stop talking in the middle of your sentence, wouldn't your friend go, "what? You think that stranger is hot?" 🤣
