New Poll - Kidnapped Daughter
This week's poll is from our member drunkguy (who hopefully wasn't drunk when suggesting this). It's a fun little poll of no consequence except for the fate of your fictional daughter and heir to the throne.

You can submit poll ideas here (and try to keep them manga/anime-related)
http://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?tid=3903

Previous Poll Results:
Question: How important is manga to your life?
Choices:
Extremely! I can't get through day without it! - votes: 1327 (15.7%)
Very! I crave it, but a day or two without it won't hurt - votes: 4413 (52.3%)
So-so... I enjoy it every once in a while - votes: 2414 (28.6%)
Not that important. I prefer other forms of media - votes: 202 (2.4%)

second last and last one are almost the same - doing nothing, just with different mindset

I think the "Just make another" and "Abandon her" options were added just to suss out how many edgelords visit MU.
As the time of this post we're sitting at 11.9% edgy.

I'm amazed how many people wanted to send tens of thousands of people to die just to get their daughter back. I expected people to be sane and actually negotiate with the demons before being rash.

Truthfully the question doesn't give me enough information to make an informed decision so I just guessed off what we got from it and what I would imagine myself ruling like. Thinking like thiis: I feel if they were so infatuated with my daughter that they took her without trying to talk with us shows that they don't have any interest in talking as such it would be a waste of time that they could be further (forgive me I couldn't help it) demonize my daughter. But you could look at the question another way and get a different viewpoint. Just how you look at the question.

I'm not married...Yet. Still a happy bachelor and no plans for marriage atm...at least not so soon.

Thus I'll not be voting this time around...choosing one option from here is beyond me.

... really... we (the users of this site) are unlikely to become a king/queen and it is impossible for there to be a demon army sooo ya your argument is ridiculous.

Aye.
But, if so, the whole point of this poll becomes invalid.
Have some POWER OF IMAGINATION buddy.

Previous poll was kinda obvious.

This time... well I suppose I will bargain with them. Who knows maybe it is just some Romeo and Juliet stuff and my daughter just fell in love with some demon, I can just bless them and have some half-demon grandkids.

Am I reading too much of a supernatural romance mangas?

» residentgrigo on March 12th, 2016, 5:33am

Only a daughter and no son/child option, that´s sexism bigrazz .

Try to negotiate or bargain with the demons to get her back will be my first option but All out War would be my backup. Weakness in a King = Death.
That daughter of mine is adopted btw. No way am i having kids...
@MinatoAce Bro, you don´t need to marry to get a concubine pregnant. My mother didn´t marry my biological father either and i still exist.

Arguably the poll's going for clichés, but I do get where you're coming from of course.

I'm all about visiting a shady mystic, cause I sure do like to gamble from time to time (my life...)! biggrin

» strixflash on March 12th, 2016, 5:37am

Awesome poll! These types of polls are more fun than the past ones which seemed more like survey.

I will choose the negotiation option. If not than the first option of getting magic.

I was stuck >.<

I ended up picking Lead your army as the hero because it seemed like the route that would most likely lead to an incest story >.> *cough cough* Hey, if I'm a fictional father, I will be dark and twisted like the rest of my story I am creating. XD

But I really wanted to pick Just make another daughter because it made me laugh, and think of the YMS guy. I don't know, I read it in his voice. I love that guy. Well not love love, but I'm getting off topic...

The other one that seemed appealing to me was Abandon her to her fate. Why needs kids or heirs? which to me seems to be that whole evil overlord sort of thing. It just screams "Why should I care about her? I'm going to live forever and rule with an iron fist. Hahahahahaha."

» rhin33 on March 12th, 2016, 7:19am

Negotiate of course. If it fails it will be something like: Officially raise an army to save her but that's just for show. Behind the scenes I will just send a few professional kidnappers to get her back while the demons are occupied with preparations for the war stuff.

On the other hand if it is some love story I don't mind giving her hand in marriage in exchange for territories, ever lasting peace, a lot of gold and jewels or something else similar. Oh, plus the condition that my grandchildren must come to visit me at least once an year or no deal laugh

1. Why would I trust a shady mystic? They might be in league with the demons. It might be part of their plan.

2. Putting out a reward is what dudes/dudettes do when they are too old to get up and fight. In my fantasy I'm not 90. On the other hand if I do it on the sly I have plausible deniability. "I don't know who those heroes where that showed up at your camp trying to rescue my daughter..."etc.

3. Negotiate? The demons either kidnapped my daughter out of pure maliciousness (because they are demons) or because they want something that's not good or not in the interests of my people (because you know demons). Caving in shows weakness, gives them what they want and there's no guarantee I get my daughter back. Don't negotiate with [strike]terror[/strike]--ahem I mean demons.

4. Unless your neighbors are really cool asking for help from them can show weakness (maybe they'll invade you), put you in their debt, and you're dragging others into your own mess. So unless its something that might directly affect them they may not be interested. Heck they may say give up on her.

5. Crying is for wussies or Shojo, this is a Seinen story with demons! Manly tears maybe ok.

6. Just make another daughter or abandon her? That's what the harem is for and I'm already busy at work on it, but still can't give up on kidnapped daughter because it looks bad politically. The people might think I'm a cruel and weak King if I give her up to the demons. They may also not like it if she was popular with the "common folk".

The only option left is to rally the masses (and neighbors if they aren't apathetic, backstabbing wretches but its Seinen so they probably are) and kick the demons butts so hard that they won't want to kidnap anyone from my kingdom again. If I can rescue my daughter its a bonus (demons may give her back once the wupping starts) and if they get rid of her then I'll build a big memorial to her and redouble my efforts with the harem.

If I lived in a Shonen world this would be so much easier and I could just be the plucky hero who "saves everyone!"

In another age, I would have picked the "Put out a reward for her rescue in order to attract a hero"...but after what happened with Rance (LOL) that is never going to happen!

» Calamansi on March 12th, 2016, 11:08am

What the? If I were a ruler, I would tolerate no demonic neighbors to begin with. If they're willing to go after royalty, who knows how much they terrorize the less fortunate?

My first impulse would be to take those hell-spawn out myself. Though, daughter's well-being in mind, I would try to hear out their demands first after confirming she's unharmed...

Right. Because I have absolutely none responsibilites as a queen, I of course embark on a journey, leaving my lands and subjects to someone else, plus points if it's a shady/corrupt officer/family member.
So. That takes care of option 1 (shady mystic --> seems really risky), option 3 (Why lead the people when you can leave it to someone specialising in strategy?), option 4 (we all know what happens when you make a deal with the devil).
Last options (besides crying, but that's useless, and useless kings/queens tend to be are either puppets or dead) are only possible if you are coldhearted.

So: Either get a hero or borrow the one from your trustworthy neighbors. (like - their hero/prince)

thread

» dreamaway on March 12th, 2016, 9:39pm

My answer depends on a lot of variables.

If kidnapped daughter is my heir, then I'll try to negotiate, and possibly lead an army if that fails. If my queen can still bear a child, I'll also try to get a son during the negotiations, maybe even try to sire and legitimize a bastard.

If it's not my heir, well tough luck to her lol. But not to appear as an uncaring king, I'll put out a reward.

» SinsI on March 13th, 2016, 1:01am

Cry... In Joy! She's their problem now.

If it is my daughter, she should be easily able to deal with some lousy demons.
Though I might try to negotiate with them on terms I would agree to take her back.

...And some physicians (the most talented ones, in fact) aren't getting any sleep because of this investigation you ordered asking to identify the traitors who managed to exchange your holy newborn child with "this incapable XXX of YYY who didn't know any better than pretending she was my daughter up until just before getting kidnapped.", in oder for them to get inquired about your child's whereabouts.

thread

» ebisu on March 13th, 2016, 2:46pm

Easy answer, I'll become John McClane !

As a king, you'll surely have the resources and that demon army has yet to learn there's people you shouldn't mess with.

» reanseih on March 14th, 2016, 7:04pm

As king, queen? A lot of variables involved, mainly political. How strong is the demon country? How popular is the princess? What is the relation between the two countries? Who specifically ordered or kidnapped the princess? What are the merits and demerits for saving / abandoning her?

I mean, claiming princess is dead and if she turns out alive and has a country behind her, could potentially end up civil war over throne. If it leaks king abandoned daughter it would make him appear as weak. If he recklessly attempt to rescue her it could turn into a full on war that may potentially be devastating to his country.

Safest bet would prolly be between put out award or assassinate the said princess. Both could still lead to long term problems depending on circumstances.

As a plain parent, chase after the kidnapper and get daughter back.

thread

» starbrigate on March 15th, 2016, 11:47am

I kinda agrees with reanseih's agruement. There's a lot of variables to think about. I chose Lead your army as the hero, I mean I'm a female so that makes me a queen and technically i have a King so he'll rule as I venture to get our fictional daughter back. (Let's assume he's a good King as well mind you lolz).

Let's use reanseih's variables:

How strong is the demon country? Well, it didn't really said that my kingdom's destroyed or anything so it's safe to assume that the demon country's prowess may not be the strongest can also be on so-so. [strike]Other variables can be maybe our guards are just so lousy or my damsel on distress daughter's the typical annoying spoiled brat princess well then fudge...[/strike] How popular is the princess? Probably pretty popular to be known by the Demon country. What's the relationship between the two country? assuming this is for the Ask for help from your neighbors i actually don't know. Maybe one of our neighbors have a prince who likes my daughter or have a long-lasting friendship. They will help more the better ain't it? Who specifically ordered or kidnapped the princess? this is like a conspiracy question lolz. What are the merits and demerits for saving/abandoning her? it seems like we are just a human kingdom with no magic, just physical prowess due to choice #1 (the visit shady thingy lolz) but with variables like prophecy, ritual, to bring terror, or just plain love. (no expansion of territory since our kingdom's not destroyed). If it's prophecy, there's no negotiating with them. If it's ritual, go find other princesses hahahaha I'm sorry xD. If it's to bring terror, why us?. If its plain love.... Well fudge...

Are the demons evil? I've read too much manga about misunderstood demons to just assume. It could be she eloped with one of them. I'd negotiate first to ensure her safety, and get more info before I decide.

thread

» mikako17 on March 15th, 2016, 3:30pm

Man, what if it was a
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Lyanna and Rhaegar
situation. I mean, I think either way, leading your army as hero is not smart. There needs to be a lot more information before you get to that point. I also don't think negotiations will work since she's just your daughter, there's still a country to look after. Though negotiations as a decoy may work.

I chose visit shady mystic since I grew up on stories that say shady mystics are the answer even though there definitely more stories now that say shady mystics are not. I kinda wish there was an option to send a strike team 'cause that is definitely the way to go.

I honestly don't remember posting this one. At least I wasn't too drunk to hit reply this time. dead

I'd invade using the hope of rescuing my daughter as an excuse. In reality, I'd assume the worst and prepare myself to encounter a ritualistically defiled corpse and/or a mind broken murder doll that needs to be put down.

Very disappointed with possible answers, where is:
Send assasin to kill daughter then invade and slaughter everyone as vendetta for her death?

Thats the only reasonable option.

obvi i've already trained my daughter since birth to be a badass swordswoman/warrior so i'm sure she'll be back in due time. i'll distract the demons by sending messengers and whatnot so she can make her escape. xD
