Plot/Story
The story follows Kikusui Umehachi who is a lowly teenager. He is short, stupid, and even has lame hobbies. One day he happens to run into a beautiful woman who seems to take a liking to him. She ends up following him around and he has no idea why. Turns out that she has a strange power and Umehachi is a key to this power. This leads Umehachi on an adventure, dealing with beautiful women and awesome powers. The story is not the best or most original, but it does the job for this series. The thing I found most disconcerting about it was the fact that with all these potential love interests Umehachi never seemed to get involved with any of them. It seems the author was going for a romance, but then changed his mind about it halfway. The plot does carry well enough though, with some interesting turn-of-events later on.

Characters
I really liked Umehachi’s character. He reminds me so much of a friend of mine that I can’t help but laugh at him. He is short, so he has small-man syndrome, but he also thinks he can be a womanizer. The females always give him a hard time, which equates to a few laughs. One thing this series does really well is with the variety of woman and the differences between them. I had no problems distinguishing one woman from another, and each one had a unique personality and ability. Many series suffer because the characters don’t have enough flair.

Drawing Style
The drawing style is fairly nice, with the echii being excellent. The author also draws a lot of hentai manga so he has an excellent grasp of human anatomy. The powers have some cool effects drawn, but overall the action scenes are fairly poor. Thankfully this series relies on comedy rather than action to keep the pace up and it works for it. The comedy scenes really work well with the author’s style.

Enjoyment
It’s not the best ecchi/comedy series around but it is fairly short and recent as well. It all comes down to whether or not you can get into the plot line. Since it hangs on it’s comedy, you really have to be one to laugh, to enjoy it.

Overall
I was disappointed at the lack of romance development, but the plot ended up being better than I expected. Considering I picked this one up for it’s ecchi content, it’s not really too bad of a series.

Ok, i would also critize the love plots, not because they don't show enough boobs and sex, but because they are very very superficial.
If you are looking for light humor without much sense and some ecchi, its an ok pick.
But it is in my opinion not more than mediocre.
thats all

What kind of review is this? by Laclongquan on November 24th, 2006, 1:40am

A review like that gives me an unpleasant picture about the reviewer. Not about the manga.

First of all, let's consider the statement "The thing I found most disconcerting about it was the fact that with all these potential love interests Umehachi never seemed to get involved with any of them". Just what kind of involvement do you think between Umehachi and big-boob girl (Kokyuki). Do they really have to jump in bed to be "involved"? (although they go to bar, love hotel and hot spring vacation and whatever together)

True, there's not many hot scenes (read, sex scenes). But then again, this is ecchi manga, not hentai. Which also explains why a runt wont acquire a harem.

IF you expect a content like Slut Girl and pick up this one, of course you will be disappointed. But as a normal manga, it's a good find.

Frankly speaking, the worst problem of Tende Freeze is its lack of hentai contents. All other manga from Itsutoshi sensei is hentai, only this one is ecchi, which make it hard for readers to give it high points. Second worst is its shortness. Only 4 volumes.

Over all I think this reviewer got a problem with his expectations and got disappointed with the book, which lead to this kind of review. I dont think this manga is 9 or 10. At best it's 8.5. Togive it 3/5 is insulting.
