It is always quite refreshing to see BDSM done with such care and novelty. How it’s not all fun and game, not quite sexy either, and that you might be hurting your partner with the understanding that they enjoy it when in fact they don’t. The art is also perfect for this type. A few plot points were a minor distraction. I love this.
So different but in a good sense

I find very interesting the dynamic of these two. The seme is a straight, average guy and the uke is a hardcore masochist. They gradually fell in love with each other and that made them put a lot of effort into their relationship. I'm all for these type of stories, where being together is the highest priority and people get out of their comfort zone to achieve that. The art is very cute. I definitely recommend this!

A very unique and authentic take on BDSM, and I like most of what I saw. Good characters with some decent development, balanced pacing, and sufficient writing.
I'm a little bit more iffy about the plot and some of its events though, but all in all it's still very interesting and quite gripping. And I love the art.

A fun, kinky slice of life injected with a surreal, mysterious element, Yoru wa Tomodachi keeps you speculating on the various developments

Yuichi Masumi decides that he's interested in engaging in a relationship with Shiro Tobita, whom his friends consider strange. What they don't know is that, despite his poker face, Tobita has much to share with Masumi that he might not be ready for, because it's difficult to call it anything but a lesson (or three ... or thirty-three) In Kink 101.
Like how a single note in a really nice song might not be great by itself, but the singer manages to hit it ~just~ right in a live performance, this simple but somewhat morose story, with all of these, erm, not-very-fluffy themes (casual sex, bondage, hardcore puppy play, sadism etc)/plot movements/characterizations, just has this perfect balance of nice slice-of-life and tragic pathos. Symbols/motifs run the gamut from epic and celestial to deep and chthonian. As well, Ido Gihou takes a page out of older manga styles and uses them skilfully. Lastly, it's interesting that there are parallels between the cultural perspective that individual people can take on how to feel about being same-gender-attracted and about liking something outside of the sexual norm, aka. not liking 'vanilla' sex. This honestly isn't portrayed with any judgment, but there is a sense of close-mouthedness; you need to figure out whether the characters are rejecting each other or just having a think, and it's everything to you, as the reader, to finally know the truth.
Really, REALLY good if this kind of story rocks your boat. Meditative and beautiful to look at, even if it's not.

In one sense this is the story about two guys fucking and in another it's a very subtle little love story with a realistic touch.
I'd really recommend this to anyone who is interested in realistic stories, slow and steady that is more about the BDSM than how they are slowly falling in love and becoming important to each other. The balance is slightly off with how much more it is about the kinks than the love, but it's not distracting.
The art is unique and a bit sketchy which to me just enhance the themes of the story.
I really recommend this to anyone who isn't expecting too much. It's really subtle and nice if you like these types of stories.

In the realm of BL, there isn't a lot of realism when it comes to relationships, let alone BDSM relationships.
With this series, we get a glimpse of what could've a great story on the subject, had the mangaka been more experienced (or just better) at story-telling.
There aren't many details on the lives of the two guys, and no side-characters at all. Just extras.
Sometimes it's a bit difficult to follow who says what, because the bubbles often lack those pointy ends and characters don't emote much.
The art style is sketchy and messy, and sometimes in a manner that takes away from the story.
I didn't feel like I got to know the characters or their motivations much. It was like a microcosm of their interactions, but lacking much detail.
Many pages were spent on sorting out kinks, but I feel like we didn't get deep enough into the characters themselves and what drove them.
I'm glad it ended the way it did, but the story as a whole was a little weak.
tl;dr
Good concept, mediocre execution.
