This is a 'tragedy' alright, with those dramas and all. For an attempt of the mangaka at trying to introduce suspense into her works, I guess this is pretty decent, I mean my heart did skip a beat when I came across a certain 'curveball' (which I'm not going to spoil here for future readers) in the manga. Everything else, though, is rather more iffy than solid. From the story's plot, the characters, the development, even the drawings aren't as good as what I'd usually expect from Homerun Ken-sensei. I sincerely hate her design for Al's human form with a passion. And that's not even the worst aspect this manga has to offer. Overall I do feel that I could comprehend what I just read (it's not like it's completely terrible), but I'm not too keen on it in any way either.

Not my favorite Homerun Ken

I enjoyed it on the first read, but much less the second time through, when the flaws were more apparent. Heaven seemed like an evil political machine, with the more powerful angels worse than the humans. So where was the BIG boss in all this, hmm? Check out Jigoku Meguri for a much more satisfying story in the same genre.

I have always had an obsessive love for Homerun Ken and I can't deny it. After reading I Want to Become Your Bird I just couldn't help it.

If you don't really like melodramatic stories, this probably isn't for you. I like how Homerun Ken can tug at my heartstrings a little though. Definitely bittersweet.

I didnt like it at all. Sorry. Its way too cliche with the angel plot. Everything was too predictable and fast. The uke is way too overly feminine and weird.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Seriously, Al had sex with one guy just to go to hell to see another guy, good thing they're the same person. The whole angel thing was ridiculous. Everyone is making a huge ruckus about sex and homosexuality yet someone higher up thinking about selling Al. And everyone, Wann, Al and Yi is gay. The only good-looking and interesting character Yi has a horrible ending. And after all Yi's did for them, Wann and Al just live happily ever after. Come on. This is just cruel. Yi was Al's partner and Wann's student. What hes doing is not unreasonable anyway, Wann did kill his dad. Without him, Al and Wann will go to hell anyways since they conducted homosexuality.

I dont actually feel anything even though I'm a soft-hearted person. This manga just does not move me at all.

Mixed feelings...

The serious wasn't your everyday yaoi. Points from that. Also I did find the plot and characters quite interesting and the artwork was pretty on the eyes.

Then comes the BUT. Like I said, it wasn't your everyday yaoi, nor shounen-ai in a way that even though it light up different emotions in me, I can't say I felt really _happy_ in any part of the story. The whole manga had a bittersweet, a little dark and gloomy atmosphere through the whole ride. Even though the plot and characters were good and made it definetely worth reading, I can't rate it high. Even the ending left me with a bittersweet after taste cos even though the main couple got a happy ending, it left me wanting to know what would happen to poor Yi.

So yeah, definetely worth reading but not the best of this mangaka. A little too... I don't know, gloomy? Anyways, interesting plot, refreshingly not-everyday-yaoi, ok characters BUT a little too serious and "dark" for my taste.

the only word for this manga? wow! The art is a 10. the plot is a 10 and the characters development is also a 10. I read this manga on a whim but i'm really glad that i did. The mangaka really know how to pull you in with her story telling. I love the world her story is set in and I just wish there is a sequel to Yi's story.

It wasn't quite my cup of tea, but I did fine it quite interesting. It was very bittersweet, but I still couldn't bring myself to smile at any part of it. I don't think I regret reading it, I actually found it refreshing from the cliche yaois I've been reading lately, but I guess I'm a sap for lovey-dovey stories.

The fact that Wann was Sakutarou bothered me a bit. At first when I found out that Al was in love with this Wann person I thought that maybe Al would get over this love since Wann was gone and then fall in love with Sakutarou. Finding out that Sakutarou IS Wann gave me mixed feelings. On one hand I was a bit happy, saved a lot of confused feelings that were bound to happen on Al's part, yet I feel like I was cheated a bit:/ Though it did give the plot a nice twist....

Also, I didn't like how the light-hearted (not sure if that's the word, but compared to what happens later I guess it is) beginning was cut so short. Sakutarou was in the middle of dealing with a lot of troubles and still coping with the lost of his parents and then enters this ignorant, yet beautiful person, who should brighten his world a bit. I was hoping that they would slowly fall in love. But the mangakas didn't seem to dwell long on that, which was a let down.

Anywho, it was average in my opinion. I feel like if they were going to throw so much angst in there I might as well get a tragic ending, because the so called "happy ending" that Al and Sakutarou got was anything but sweet at the expense of lovelorn Yl.

Can't give it a ten, but I still give it a high score for it's twisted plot. I do enjoy a bit of angst sometimes. Well...sort of angst:/

Great, touching story!
It's been a while since I read an actual good fantasy yaoi manga, and this
does not disappoint! It's super interesting from start to finish and like the others, I agree
that the character of Yi could have gotten more time in the manga, or his own volume for that matter.
But other than it being way too short, there's really nothing bad I can say about this!
(Maybe if you prefer a lot of sex scenes you might not be satisfied with this.)

So if you want to read a real good fantasy story of angels, heaven, hell and crimes, then this is for you!!

i dont give this manga a 10 bcz of the same reason as MM... >Yi<
in a story is not all about the main characters... i loved the story, though some things didnt seem to fit sometimes(maybe bcz all the heaven/hell mangas out there/ this im saying here its really irrelevant though).. but overall it was really good imo, it touched me, lovely story and a nice end...
but when one of the -supporting- characters has an "end" like that one... it feels incomplete in a very uncomfortable way...
im not saying i wanted to see a love story with Yi in it.... but it didnt leave a nice feeling, more like a sad one, but like all stories where in the end is not all said... u have to imagine it...

What a fantastical ride! *wipes tear; calms heart*

This is the best Homerun Ken story I have ever read.

The tension is fabulous in this fantasy tale! Deception, mystery, murder, tragedy, angst, anger, blood, jealousy, pure selfless love, sweet kisses and romance -this one is incredible! It took me on a roller coaster ride of emotions for it's short 5 chapters!

The art is breathtakingly stunning. The story is captivating, haunting and heart breaking; the resolution is fulfilling even with it's sad happiness. Not too sweet, not too bitter: the end left we with a lump in my throat for Yi and a smile on my face for Al. Some end happily; some end with redemption.

The interweaving lives of Wann, Sakutarou, Yi and Al was masterfully done and the drama of the illustrations had me flipping back and re-reading as I held my breath. Beautiful! Some scenes were illustrated so climatically (Al's invitation to S to take out his frustration, as Al moved S's hands slowly to Al's very own neck...) that I swear my heart stopped!

Will Yi get a continuation of his own story someday? The mangaka did what I believe all good endings should do: Leave you wanting more, unable to stop thinking about the characters' lives, but enough realism and purposefulness that it's okay if the 'more' is only in your imaginations.

The only reason I didn't give it a 10 was because Yi's journey would have been more touching if there were more scenes with his inner dialogue of struggle. Although I still felt for the touching end to his crimes, I think it could have been knock-me-flat-on-my-back with a few chapters from his perspective along with Al and Sakutarou.
