The story is pretty good, but just like what other said, the MC is really bad and lacked a spine. He only talk but never actually did something to change himself, and easily manipulated.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
And in the end he betrayed his own ideals.

On another note, the bad guy is really manipulative basterd. I like him.

Throughout the manga there is all of this talk about psychopaths but... Every character they have labeled as a psychopath is nothing like a psychopath. It makes me /facepalm when they started explaining things about how psychopaths were necessary and bla bla bla

Reiji needs to go soak his head in a tub of ice water for a long, long minute.

OK, so as everyone below me as stated, the main protagonist is everything wrong with the series. But, the problem isn't that he's a coward who runs away and starts crying at the first sign of trouble. Or that he doesn't want to kill anyone in a game of life and death.

No, the problem is that Reiji is a complete and utter asshole who acts selfless but really only gives a shit about himself. And that hot childhood friend he's after.

I don't really understand how Dal-Young could've screwed up Reiji's character so badly. There have been plenty other protagonists who have started out weak/pacifist but, through some nice character development, they eventually become compelling and interesting characters, regardless of whether they remain pacifists or not.

But Reiji? Nope. In fact, the only development Reiji receives throughout the entire manga is to become even more of an asshole. Seriously, if I was his sister, I would knife him the first chance I got.

So, yeah, as everyone else has stated, the plot is decent, the side characters are decent, the art is decent... the only thing that really, seriously needs to die is the main character. Still, like other Dal-Young series, I just can't help reading it. I don't quite understand why.

save yourself some trouble and read Real PG instead, basically same concept except it will more likely to finish unlike this work which i expect will go on hiatus, like all the rest of IM Dal-Young's works. Real PG also has a more realistic and likeable protagonist that you dont want to smack silly

This is a standard IM Dal-Young work through and through. His main characters as you may have noticed yourself and from the previous reviews on all of his works just plain suck.
They are always unrealistic pansies who have every girl wet over them then they transform into raging douche bags who would rape a girl at the drop of a dime and call it romance. This work is no different.

Honestly I don't know how this guy still has a job putting out nonsense like this.

Great story, feckless protaganist

The story is good, the art is good, the plot is good, the protagonist is annoying.

I understand what Dal-Young is attempting to do with the main character, he's given him a good heart and a strong conscience. Unfortunately (and unusually) the author has combined those more laudable attributes with bluster, callow stupidity, arrogance, and a monstrous sense of entitlement.

It's baffling as to why his two highly competent female companions don't simply drug him and stick him somewhere safe, until things blow over and they can get a better handle on the situation.

Started with potential, went downhill though.

While Re:Birth is probably the darkest title of Im Dal Young, it can't be helped that it is another piece of recycled ideas from various other titles.

Such as the Fate series and Mirai Nikki.

Ok, the premise is interesting and it's pretty much a survival-theme manga where the winner gets everything and the loser dies. So Reiji and his sister Ayaka are getting involved in this crazy game where they must fight other Takers to earn life points.

At the beginning, it is normal to be terrified by all of this. Ayaka isn't terrified at all but Reiji is a total pansy in the whole story. You only see him whining, crying and
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
thinking about the lives of the other Takers. He is so easy to be tricked, like it happened with the male Taker that helped them to hunt the Angels.

Later, the manga goes downhill. I thought that Im-Dal Young would explore more of who set up this game but he focus more on fights, like he does with most of his other series. Also, I want to mention that it is quite rushed and you can't expect for everything to be solved in 7 volumes.

Conscience

While Reiji isn't the manliest of men, he does serve as the conscience of this manga. Which it badly needs.
With so many crazy killers running around this could have descended into a bloody chaos..

Protagonist is a little pu**y a** bitc*

If you want to rage and rage, keep reading this. The protagonist is a little bitc* who by the 20th chapter can't deal with the fact that he is stuck in the new world. He bitches and moans and cries and tries to befriend everyone while screwing over his sister and allies. He DOESN'T LEARN! WTF! He blames other people and never take responsibility.

Just dropped it, cant stand that stupid pussy male protagonist. Come on, you are struggling for your life and the first thing you do is being goodie-buddy with every single person who tries to kill you?
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
In the amusement park, when another taker aproaches them and tell them to follow her or she'll kill their friend, the sister intend to kill her right away (surprise atack + 2vs1 = logical option) however, the brother stops his sister and chooses to follow the enemy into a (obvious) trap... I just wish for him to die there, seriously, that sister could take over the world if she wanted to if he wasnt dragging her down.
