The producers of the manga magazine had always wanted akamatsu-sensei to create another "love hina" ripoff, seeing how it got so widely accepted, but akamatsu-sensei had always wanted to draw a shonen action manga. So being like the ninja he is, he disguised Negima to be another school life harem themed manga yet hid heap loads of action potential in it. The result?
Awesome X Awesome!
Don't be discouraged just by reading the first few chps and volumes thinking: gahh! all these characters are annoying, because you'll definitely miss out the character developments in it.
Akamatsu-sensei's unique art style and his perfect amount of humor dosage would serve Negima to become one of the most memorable manga you'll ever read.

good series with irritating and pedophile girls.....

The art is good, story is good but the girls are irritating. All the girls are pedophile wanting love from a 10 year old. Now come on .... 10 year old!!!. Plus too much fan service.....Before 150th chapter almost 75 chapters are unnecessary fan service. Now who would like to see boobs and panties of a 14 yr old. Give me some life. Overall I will rate it 7/10. If there was no fan service and irritating girls then it would have been 10+.

NOTE: The magic land arc is 10/10. No damn fan service

Start like any generic harem series but in actuality thing have been laid on carefully from the start (except the characters design) culminating in truly grand setting for the world, its history and subsequently the plot, the kind of planning that mindless manga like Bleach could only dream of.

Still with all the seriousness it retain all the charming atmosphere of Akamatsu's style, truly enjoyable read.

One of my all time favourites.

I admit, the first reason why I started reading this was for the ecchi and humour ala Love Hina. But then as the plot progressed I noticed how it changed from a harem series to one hell of a kickass action storyline while still retaining the humour and fanservice. This series has been with me since my highschool years and now into my university days. A truly great series.

EDIT: And so it ends...very disappointed in the ending. Nothing feels truly resolved and a major plot point is concluded without any of it being in the manga! It was just one moment its a huge mystery and the next it's all done! We never know who Negi ends up with, interesting characters with huge storytelling potential wasted and some of them just disappear never to be mentioned even in the epilogue! Everything is just one hell of a crazy disappointment. This series, great as it was during the journey ended with a bitter taste.

"True magic comes from the strength of heart."

This series is very nicely written out. While it is typical shounen stock (main character constantly getting stronger to defeat new enemies, etc.), it delivers it out flawlessly and often in comedic fashion. It's funny, very ecchi, and action packed. The series may have a bit of a weak beginning (relied a lot on ecchi scenes), but it gets really good. The ending is really solid, in fact a bit too solid, and as a result, it may not have the emotional impact one would expect. But, it's still worth reading, so don't just drop it because of the first few arcs. To this day, even after 9 years, this manga remains as one of my most favorite manga series.

this series is excellent and i recommend it to anyone. but just know that it is prity much love hina with fights, and the main guy isn't an idiot. the comparison between them is so crazy, that i think the author probably used the same sketches and made them all 14 smile never the less, this is an amazing manga and everybody should read it (and read love hina too if you haven't already)

i rly hate it when i finish/catch up with a good series...and this is one of em. As everyone has said, this one has it all, be it comedy, drama, romance (well, as far as a 10 year old can go with that bigrazz ), action, ecchi etc etc. May not have the strongest of starts, but it exhibits great development, and the reader will soon find himself craving for more...Also, whilst it is true that the basic plot might not be that original, the character development of each individual, and the amount of characters at that, always give it a "fresh" feeling. I already miss those guys....
-.- I now have to add this to the other 1000 to the nth power series's whose weekly releases i must wait for each (you guessed it) week....but this waiting for this one will hurt >.<
P.S. Yeah, some characters resemble those from Love Hina, especially at the beginning, but, as you get further into the story, they will become their own personalitiessmile

I love this manga but with the new Tokyo Censorship bill that just passed I can see this series coming to an end real soon. This manga has been going on for so long I just hope that if it is forced to end that they give it an ending worthy of its greatness.
