Im looking for some romance mangas that aren't set in a high school environment. Best example for what im looking for is Bonnouji. I read a lot of manga in the last few weeks (havn't put everything on my list yet) and most of it had a high school like setting. I would really like to read something that has another setting. Like two people that meet each other at work or something? Fantasy is fine too but i'd prefer non-fantasy.

- Likeable Characters
- Character Growth
- The Main Characters actually get together
- Completed manga

- Harem (please, no!)
- Weak Characters who can't do anything by themselves
- Tragedy / too much drama (its ok if there is drama but it shouldn't be too much)
- Guardian relationship

As always thanks in advance for your recommendations and happy reading.

Ore ga Akuma de, Aitsu ga Yome de, Cute romance (ish) about a demon that takes your soul for wishes, and a girl that wishes for that demon to be her husband. I'm not totally sure if they end up together

Little House with the Orange Roof would be light heart romance without highschool setting. No harem and little to no drama but it's closer to a middle age bracket rather than young/student setting. Live happily ever after kind of story.

Hmm... can't think of any other romance where the main characters live together but is not a harem or packed with loads of drama. Too many romance josei got the heart-breaking and love.

will definitely take a look at Orange Yane no Chiisana Ie.

They don't have to live with eachother. I remember reading a manga where the two mc's meet at a job-search or something like that and then grow closer until they become a couple at the end. Im looking for something like that ; )

How about Mahoraba. The story is lighthearted most of the time and the characters are definitely very likeable.

Spontanously I have two titles in mind, although they are both set around university and campus life, they are not your usual teenage-stories. ^^

* Shuukatsu!! - Kimi ni Naitei - It's one of my favourites.

The female main character has a tough time job hunting before graduation, then she gets to know a guy, who seems to be always one step ahead and easily going trough that time. First being frustrated about this difference between them, then starting to move forward, she makes her way step by step.

* Nineteen, Twenty-One

It's about a girl "losing" two years, because of an accident. It's not easy for her to accept her circumstances, till she mets the male lead. He is actually living the time of his life, which she wasn't able to experience for herself. It's a calm and cute storyline, told in a heartwarming way.

"It's like love is a bonus in your life. Even without it, I'm just fine. I don't feel like pointlessly searching for it. You don't have to make yourself unhappy." (Ookami Shoujo to Kuro Ouji)

"Why does it rain?" - "To create drama." (Drops (Andou Yuki))

Ha! Still amazed at your reading pace. You're always back for suggestions after a couple of weeks (or days), no matter how long our list of recommendations grew. But I guess, I shouldn't be saying anything roll Well, let's see what I can do for you this time.

I don't know if you've already read it, but NINOMIYA Tomoko's Nodame Cantabile is worth mentioning for both its music and its quirky characters.

An extraordinary and unfortunately unknown story can be found among KODAMA Yuki's works: Hagoromo Mishin is a modern folk tale about the encounter between a prospective architect and the swan that he saved. Tender and endearing.

YOSHIDA Motoi's Natsu no Zenjitsu matches all your criteria, the main characters make a great couple, there are no tragic events, and yet it leaves you with a sense of fleetingness. But that's what makes this story unforgettable.

Has anyone recommended Udon no Onna by Est Em to you as yet? This peculiarly lovable story deals with the relationship of an art student with a lady who works at a cafeteria. Unexpectedly romantic and amusing.

ISHIHARA Keiko's Ojousama No Untenshu is set in the Taisho Era and follows the relatioship between a young lady and her chauffeur.

Kimi no Sei by SAKURA Iro/ CHATANI Ami might fit. It has some drama, but, honestly, I never got the impression that things would possibly go wrong.

I second Shuukatsu!! - Kimi ni Naitei by YOSHINO Aki. Several of this mangaka's one-shots are kept in the same tone, so you could also take a peek.

That's it for today! I might add some more if I shoud find something else worth suggesting.

"Stories are what death thinks he puts an end to.
He can't understand that they end in him, but they don't end with him."
- Ursula K. Le Guin, Gifts

To be savoured:
- Blood Alone by TAKANO Masayuki
- Otoyomegatari by MORI Kaoru
- Gangsta. by Kohske
- Seishun Kouryakuhon by AKIZUKI Sorata

I second Futago and Cousin!

You might also like Sekine's Love and Story of Someone We Know (the second being a webtoon). They aren't complete, but worth the read, I think.

Give Oishii Kankei a try. It's about cooking but 40% of it is romance/drama. There is this mature kind of love growing between the characters. Not the sweet and happy type romance though. More like 'you are together or you are not'.
