While I am a sucker for nostalgia and tend to buy re-releases of older games (like the Konami Castlevania collections or Capcoms Mega Man bundles... hey it's my childhood right there), I'm not a huge fan of remasters.

Im cool with remasters, I don't like remakes

a remaster is when they work on the engine a bit, maybe up the graphics, see the last of us remastered, they call it a remake but all they really did was port the game to the newer engine and redo the textures from production masters. THIS I am ok with with.

re2 and re3 remakes however are reimagnings, with 2 being pretty good, and 3 being kind of shit.

then you have ones like okami on pc, where it is I believe an 'enhanced port'

the castlevania games, if I remember right, is a compertial emulator wrapper around the original roms.

Seldom.
If posible I prefer to replay the old games but I never really have time for that ... They usually they miss the chance make improvements and just go for a quick cash grab, and that's a big reason against remastered games ... I mean it's a bit offensive for other developers when a company has enough money to make a better game and remasters it lazily or copies a prior game in most aspects.

all I want in a remaster is typically ports to current hardware standards and making games easier to run, potentially quality of life improvements, see zelda oot on 3ds where you had quick access to equipment swaps.

I hate it when devs decide that the old game was not good enough, and decided to remake them for modern audiences, just give me what was there with maybe a new coat of paint.

Yes, I'm not talking about remasters. But many games are released on a schedule, so sometimes they don't have time to include some things that were meant to be there. Also optional extra minigames or missions or even a posible alternate ending (that don't change the overall game play) aren't that bad ... And leaving some bugs or cheats that were there and most players used is ok but if they're too lazy with fixing them it can affect gameplay especially if you revamp the graphics.

I used to buy/play remasters a lot, but found there wasn't as much nostalgia as I remembered and that the original simply didn't need a remaster. The only remasters I like were of games I was unable to complete in the past due to game-breaking bugs/glitches, or horrendous loading times.

Yes, if I really like them.

I've actually been trying to preorder Tales of Symphonia Remastered from the Bamco site for the past few weeks, since ToS is one of my favorite games of all time (this'll be my third time buying it physically), but the site keeps error-coding for me, so who knows if I'll actually be able to get it at this rate.

I also played the PS4 remastered version of Tales of Vesperia and found that I appreciated it more than when I played it back on the Xbox 360.

I didn't bother getting any of the TWEWY ports/remasters though. I feel like the loss of a dual screen doesn't really justify any sort of minor new content these new ports/remasters could offer.

sometimes they miss the magic
it's just a re-skin of artworks and has none of the feel or playability of the original

I think many of the Secret of Mana offerings (before the most recent one) were 1 player and could never go back in time to re-create the co-op experience I had with my brothers; few genres other than mindless sidescrolling beat'em up games allow for individual efforts to shine.

Sometimes I play a remastered super mario brothers or sonic probably once a year. Also re-bought ceasar 3 on steam, when I literally have the disc and can easily set up a computer to play from the disc. (Splurge purchase ^.^)

I think the consideration that I make to play/buy a remastered game is did I play this game sorta competitively with others. Who can finish a Mario or Sonic level the fastest? How fast did it take to complete Ceasar 3? Tetris speed? These classic games are also pretty quick to finish, even if your bad or new gamer.

Basically, I am not going to replay a game like RE or LoU, because I played them for the story and for solo enjoyment.

Seldom. I do not like playing remaster of game I already played the hell out of it when I was young, I prefer buying new games instead of wasting money on a game I already played.

With that said though, I did buy remaster a few times like FFX and FX-2 remaster, Tales of symphonia and a few more through the years, but every times I play for an hour or two and just quit.

If by "remaster" you mean something that spruces up the look of a game I would do multiple playthroughs of anyway? Yes. I had played Oblivion, Skyrim LE, then Skyrim SE. Fallout mods to improve looks are great. Looking forward to Skyblivion.

If by "remaster" you mean a hack studio gets hired to improve things but ruins it instead, then no. Bioshock was awful, the visual update brightened everything up and killed the eerie feeling. And the GTA remasters, one of which was based on a mobile port, were garbage.
