New Poll - Checking Releases
This week's poll was suggested by our member AmDnim. When you're checking for the existence of a new release, what's the first place you go to? MangaUpdates of course! (Maybe... that's the whole point of the poll)

You can submit poll ideas here (and try to keep them manga/anime-related)
http://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?tid=3903

There were 9451 total votes.
The poll ended: June 27th 2014

Germany, Brazil, Netherlands... Pretty similar to what you guys thought 4 years ago (except that Spain's already gone, so they weren't even included in this poll). Netherlands has a much higher vote than last time though! Good for them! But hey, at least USA got out of the group of death!

Now it's just MU, it used to be Online reader sites, but I often forgot which mangas I was reading.
But .... I kind of stopped reading so many ongoing series ...yet I still constantly check out the release page on MU.

I definitely see those three making it far, at least two of them I see in the semi-finals! Hah, nice to see that Algeria, Nigeria, and Switzerland have surprised many. :3

First place I check for releases is MU. I used to check some scanlator site's Twitter/FB though, sometimes those were more quickly updated than IRC.

Used to only read manga I was interested in because of anime. That was back in the day when there were almost no manga aggregator sites so you had to google and hope. That is how i found this site.

Now I use this site as a Hub for all my manga needs. All hail to Mangaupdates !!!

Have always been using 'MangaUpdates' to check for releases on a daily basis on my android phone so having an app would be better smile wink grin

Haven't tried following scanlation groups on their twitter/fb/website since it's kind of time consuming especially when your following lots of Manga and LN and those with ireggular releases.

That's what we're here for. Used Batoto for a while but with my growing reading list there's no other option but MU. Not that I mind.

thread

» Dex on June 28th, 2014, 2:18am

Mostly on MangaUpdates, but for my most favorite sereis also the site of the scanlators

thread

» SilverStorm on July 2nd, 2014, 1:01am

Same. +Batoto since some scanlators release there before it gets listed on MU.

thread

» tactics on June 28th, 2014, 3:04am

Yeah MU mostly but sometimes places like Batoto or just noticing generally that there's a new release some other way and it hasn't been added to MU yet.

thread

» baka_hyuga on June 28th, 2014, 3:05am

I usually use my phone apps to read rss feed of mu.

thread

» lucky_wombat on June 28th, 2014, 3:54am

Now that MU doesn't have links to scanlators I pretty much just moved to online readers. So I just added Batoto to my RSS feed

thread

» Dex on June 29th, 2014, 1:48pm

Yeah, that really pisses me off, too. URLs being either removed or replaced to links to rtash like facebook or twitter.

thread

» soraking on June 28th, 2014, 5:35am

MangaUpdates

Urrrrr, haven't updated for about 2 months already tho (*`^´)=3

Updating, urrrr, is kinda a hassle, when u have tons to update, lol

thread

» Sogno on June 28th, 2014, 10:46am

i used Batato for the most part, 'cuz i can see on the homepage if something's released.

i frequently check Easy Going Scans's site because they release a lot of mangas I read.

i use MU a lot , but not for checking releases, unless it's a series I've just started reading.

thread

» monkry on June 28th, 2014, 12:53pm

It used to be pure Mangaupdates, but then now it's
Batoto
Mangaupdates
And Tumblr for doujinshi

thread

» BlackOrion on June 28th, 2014, 2:42pm

I mostly use a combination of the scanlator's sites and MU. I use IRC for downloads quite a lot, but it's more often than not updated on the site first and then on the channel itself, so it's better to check there.

thread

» mr.poneis on June 29th, 2014, 2:29am

Well, mangaupdates sure is the main option, you list a everything here in terms of releases... Thoug there are at least 3 manga I'm obliged to use cause its easier to know about the series I'm following...

Everytime I come to mangaupdates, I end openning every title that I found interesting in new tabs, for every ten, often one or two I move to a list for further reading for a extent that this list list is enormous by now...

If you ask why I don´t use MU tool for listing manga its just cause I wouldn´t feel secure if I didn´t keep a offline register... and moving the entire list here would sure be troublesome. Maybe one of these days...

I signed for a site feed once too... but I don´t really check my mail frequently...

I don't really get why mangaupdates is rated so high, in terms of new release indications anyway. I mean, I read so many short ongoing mangas, I can remember a couple titles but generally to remember ALL their titles and search for every single one...no. Much easier to just check "latest updates" on reader sites. And vice versa for scanlator's sites. Now that MU doesn't have a comprehensive websites, you have to search for it, for just one chapter, and move onto another scanlator...it takes a lot of time.

thread

» kitty1826x on June 29th, 2014, 8:40pm

....
I just frequently check the Releases page. which I have certain genres color coded. Plus if something I'm reading (it would be in my reading list) gets updated. I see a little icon next to the new chapter that just got scanlated.
For me it's easier to check here since A) I don't use online reader sites to read manga anymore. and B)Checking each scanlator's site ... seems like a lot of work.

Although ... I use the releases page more for adding new things to my wish list. Since I don't pick up ongoing series often.

thread

» evilcleo on June 29th, 2014, 8:49pm

Well, that's just as much a problem for me. Most titles don't mean anything, I need to see the pictures to jog my memory. I read a lot of mangas that go across a variety of genres. It has to be a really great or really bad manga for it to stick.

thread

» kitty1826x on June 29th, 2014, 9:01pm

Ahhh I see what you mean about the click on each manga thing now.
The color coding does help me remember what manga is what. Yeah, I'm the same way with remembering manga titles. Unless it's in English, or something I can't wait for the next update I tend not to remember what it's called.

Then again, for me there's ... maybe 10 I'm still following for updates, everything else I put on hold until it's done.

thread

» NightSwan on July 1st, 2014, 2:23pm

Well, if you've read the oneshot, you can add it to one of your lists.
And when looking at the releases page, if it's a oneshot, it'll usually say "oneshot" instead a number.
But I see your point.
Hoovering over the title to see a cover/pic would be great, but it's not something I can't live without.
Maybe in the future, MU will have such a feature.

Anyways, MU is the first place I look.
Sometimes I visit the sites themselves, but MU is so reliable.
If I want to browse through yuri titles only, I go to dynasty-scans.

thread

» MinatoAce on July 2nd, 2014, 1:39am

Hmm...
well I use MU when I'm late and at least 4 times per 2 hours ( let alone the time I'm sleeping, cause I'm probably sleeping like dead then...now I wonder, can I browse when I'm sleeping ? Weird! )

And rest of the times I use my GUTS...believe or not...It's work like charm...Try It !

Happy Reading Fellas ~! ^_~

thread

» mikako17 on July 2nd, 2014, 11:49am

Mangaupdates of course since it's so easy to check for new releases of the manga I'm reading when I order my reading list to latest updated & unread.

As for new manga that I haven't read and therefore aren't on my reading list, I usually search on here for them or see something interesting on Batoto.

where's the I dont care option

(yes this is going to by my standard reply now for every poll)

thread

» gwkimmy on July 4th, 2014, 1:29pm

i check MU first definitely. i took such care in perfecting all of my lists, it's really easy to see which titles i read got updated. i wish there was an author wishlist capability, though, so i would be alerted when a fav mangaka of mine has something new scanlated.

sometimes i check tumblr too since i follow a lot of scanlator sites there.
