It was mostly related to unlimited internet connection + this website found. Not the age.

I hope it counts if manga was read to you because you were still learning to read... Dragonball, of course.

THe main issue is that official translations take wAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAy to much time if they start to translate something from scratch and it will take them YEARs to catch up. What they should do in my opinion is take the already translated work. Pay the translator properly and then edit any mistakes in the translator and fast release chapters.

Started reading manga after having watched a few anime in late 2020 during the pandemic, so 31. Not ashamed that the first stuff I read happened to be hentai out of pure curiosity -- I'd never seen anything like that in my life (I wasn't raised with the internet). Then switched to normal, wholesome BL.

Same. Pandemic boredom led to anime which led to manga. Opened up a whole new world. Something I never thought I would get into. Makes me wish I had taken Japanese when I was in school.

7 or 8, I think?
My brother used to collect manga. I read his collection of Doraemon and Detective Conan around that time. And then there were Miiko and Cardcaptor Sakura too. Those were some of my earliest manga I read when I was little.

I got to know anime and manga at the same time when I was 6-7 years old. I can't remember exactly knowing it's gone long way, maybe because my country was really active localizing many contents so I grew up with it as a kid. My father used to bought me Doraemon, Detective Conan, and many more.

Maybe 14? I first started watching anime when a mainstream channel got some good shows (I remember that Cowboy Bebop was airing on Adult Swim around that time, but I didn't get that channel). Then I made some friends who also liked anime and they got me into manga as well.

Well I know for a certain reason that I was reading manga cover to cover from the time Inuyasha Volume 15 released in the US which according to wikipedia was 2003 when I was 12. So I was either 11 or 12 when I started.

Either when the series is done, or when a publisher is releasing high-quality simulpub chapters like mangaplus.

Good poll!

I read Chobits at the age of 11, probably downloaded it off Mangatraders in 2005.
Scan quality (among other things) wasn't so great back then.
I was getting into subbed anime around the same time, and was already into western webcomics.

...I also ran across a directory of a full volume of untranslated
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
lolicon
hentai on a very unrelated Google Image search (with safe search on); so I 'read' that as well. :I

I started watching animes very young but I had no idea about online scanlation back then, I was one of these "read on paper" people (but I didn't have money for mangas, I could only read books).

I was around 8 when I started reading some of the manga my sister had on her shelf (Yu-Gi-Oh, Shaman King, Rave Master), although I was watching anime before that. I started reading manga online around age 12 and collecting physical volumes around age 16. I'm surprised how many people here started reading manga around the same age, I was not expecting that.

I was around 22. I was a casual anime fan growing up, but didn't get really into it until after I graduated college. It was after a recession and I had trouble finding a job so I filled some of my free time with anime. And then I started reading manga to see how some of my favorite anime ended.

11. I had a friend whose older sister read Ranma 1/2 and other series from shounen jump. I started physically collecting when I was about 12 or 13.

The early teenage years. One of the first times was when my then highschool gf recommended me some to read since she was a light otaku. Started off at onemanga (some of y'all probably remember that), and here I am.

Oh, wow, I was just a bit late... I participated in the vote when this was asked nearly a decade ago... time flies far too quickly.
