New Poll - Manga Midnight Madness!
Well, during the initial suggestion of this poll, several other people really liked it, so why not put it up here? This was originally suggested by our member pearlized. At what lengths would you go to read your manga? Well, this poll is only about sleeping, but...(I don't wanna hear that you would murder a bookstore clerk to read manga)

You can discuss this poll on our forums here: http://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?tid=8455

Previous Poll Results:
Question: Your gender?
Choices:
Male - votes: 6778 (48.9%)
Female - votes: 7080 (51.1%)
There were 13858 total votes.
The poll ended: October 25th 2008

When we did this poll last year, we got about 1000 more votes, but that poll lasted almost a whole month, as opposed to a single week here. And as all of you can see, the girls dominate.

I don't think 51.1 vs 48.9 is "dominate" ^^

There are more females in the world than males! And i'm sure that this is the reason why so many yaoi mangas are so pupular. ^_^ (me male; me hate yaoi)

how come yaoi manga can be popular among girls? I can't see the reason behind that. So, just out of curiosity: Can anyone explain to me because me girl and I don't like yaoi? I'm more into shoujo and josei and a few number of seinen manga

It's not *that* popular if you actually think about it, well maybe only a little bit in the "otaku" world yes, but when I look back again in the normal world... well, let just say that I just can't see any girl of my school reading yaoi LOL they would rather laugh about it like I kinda do... (I actually like yuri more, don't get me wrong I think it's more prettier... ^^ Not that I'm lesbian or anything. :/)

I think yaoi caters to what some women want to see. That's why the HBO show "Queer as Folk" was so popular, though it was a bit more realistic than yaoi. You get two good looking guys, stick them together, and have a romance. You don't have to worry about all that "real world" stuff like prejudice, and the characters (usually) get a happy ending. Reading yaoi, at least in my mind, is like reading a romance novel, only with two men. I personally will read anything except loli and shota, as long as it has a good storyline. I like a lot of seinen and sports manga since that's where my interests lie, and I tend to dislike shoujo that focuses on bubbly airheads and love triangles. Most of the people I know who like yaoi also like a host of other things outside of yaoi.

Well, I don't think liking yaoi or yuri has any connection to gender.
LOL.

>_> it does, most males dislike Yaoi but like Yuri since 2 girls getting it on is usually hot; while this is opposite for females, notice how i said *most* not all; nevertheless thats the case... not to mention all the fangirls on here

It does actually. Yaoi is written for girls.

'Bara' is the Yaoi intended for gay guys.
