I have discovered a great world & I would be stupid to leave it. I regret not knowing about it earlier, and am afraid I will not notice it in my next life. I will even teach my kids about manga & anime in the future, if I have any. A lot of stories are epic & can teach about life, yet I have many more to find.

One does not simply "abandon" reading manga. There is only periods of time when there is nothing interesting to read.

100% true, i will keep reading till i die even if the level keep dropping

Exactly. I wish there'd been an option like that, though I can see how that would be difficult to phrase. In the future I might go a long while without reading any manga, and I might stop collecting manga, but that doesn't mean I've abandoned it. The word 'abandon' has such a sense of finality...

I agree as well, because even if the level does keep dropping, I'll always love those little jewels I already have in my collection. Yes, I may read less new stuff, but abandon manga? No way smile

I'd rather pick,
"Maybe someday, but i don't know when. And I will still read it sometimes"

mmm...

Quitting manga is like saying I am going to quit watching tv or quit reading books. It has been so ingrained into my life from a young age I can't imagine myself without it.

I don't think anyone would willingly "stop" reading manga. I think it just happens. You develop different interests or life just gets in the way.
I've stopped reading manga/watching anime several times and for pretty long periods of time, but for some reason I always come back.
I think as long as there are resources and time, I will keep this interest for many more years to come.

Considering the fact that the world of manga is starting to whither, I wouldn't be too surprised if one day I would have to stop reading due to the lack of new material.

You might not need new material, revisiting old stories have their perks. Can't beat that nostalgia value, it always feels great to read an story again and relive those old memories.

Is that speaking strictly to scanlated manga or including the raw japanese one?

» vietangelix on February 26th, 2012, 12:32am

I don't think I'll ever quit but who knows. Reading manga is one of the things I enjoyed doing~

Should have been an option like maybe some time in the distance future but not for now.

thread

» darkraiders on February 26th, 2012, 8:58am

Maybe i will quit once a die but not before that smile

thread

» quark1020 on February 27th, 2012, 7:09am

Don't be so depressing....

Why would you want to quit after you die?

thread

» bakaliner on February 27th, 2012, 9:23am

well if there's afterlife then that option can be cancelled. If I can become ghost than the first place i will haunt is some manga collector house lol......
but because there's no guarantee about that i think stop reading after we die are reasonable.... but if i can and if there's a title that i feel i like to read at that time i will try to read it juuuuust riiiiight before i'm totally dead and gone to oblivion...

thread

» 0oKat~0 on February 27th, 2012, 5:22pm

Haha, who cares about some manga's collector's house. If it were me, I'll go straight to the source. (ie. My favorite mangaka's house) xD

Well, my vote is not listed as one of the options... I would vote for "I don't know... maybe yes, maybe not... everything in life is unpredictable." There were times when I thought of quitting manga because I'm a chronic procrastinator or just being lazy. Perhaps one day I'll quit if I get married and have kids (I don't want my husband to yell "Stop reading manga! Can't you hear the baby's crying?" err... this is most unlikely to happen, but well.. XD).

In the end, I think the possibility for me to quit watching anime is higher than reading manga. After all, my most beloved josei / seinen manga will never going to be animated. And I don't want to jump on the bandwagon of "Aww.. this season's sucks!! Why Japan, why??!!" Lol.

I agree that quitting anime is more likely, even for me, but I'll never stop reading [manga].

Half a decade ago I read so much manga it was crazy, it was like all I read and all I spent my free time doing.

Now I buy like three series and I barely read any scans (I read about two or three that don't come to america)

I still like manga its just that I find myself not caring most of the time and a lot of series which are 200 chapters or more in I often forgot entire storylines and can never find the time to re-read anything.

I kind of wish there were more recaps in manga.
