When I saw the attitude of leechers who expect you to deliver cuz it's their right and mangafox earning money on the author's work, I knew it was time to close my group (still need to release the last part) and I decided to take japanese seriously.
It just wasn't worth it anymore.
The sad part about it is that people can't get that the scanlation community needs more people in their groups. Not new groups which they so happy makes and kills in a few weeks, but more people on the old groups to make the stuff running.
Also that many people using external mangareaders like mangafox and mangahere won't know when the groups need people cuz they don't visit the groups site and no one really reads the credit page, right? ....and then it becomes too late. XD

japanese...well I started cuz of the same reason, these days it's more for myself than translating stuff for idiots

maybe in some far far away place call non-existence,
some example of project: hammer session, Kimera, and some others(sure t1 can come up with a better list than me)
» T1 on December 17th, 2011, 7:57am
Luckily people got an attention to it...well they would if they read our scanlations but it resulted in many getting picked up...but 40% are still lost. I think that was our xmas release 2 years ago? O.o
» VawX on December 17th, 2011, 4:26am
it's very sad to think that a group as big as Mangacurse is closing its door because of one person's decision mmm...
» Anaelyssa on December 17th, 2011, 4:32am
Well, I guess it is sad in general to see a group close down. But sometimes, no scans is better than bad (and possibly badly translated) scans.
» Yousuke on December 17th, 2011, 6:11am
HOWEVER. They have improved a notch since then. To the point where it was readable.
» deadphoenix on December 17th, 2011, 6:13am
The only thing what we can hope that it's a temporary shut down, as it's a matter of time maybe they could come back after some time...
At least I'm really thankful for the early breaker releases and that they took some time to do King of Hell (one of my favorite manwha's that disappeared suddenly some time ago.)

I apologize the donation part, I know better than putting stereotypes onto others. I figured that we were kinda the very few left who didn't want people's money cuz what we did was for free....oh wait we wanted people to help out with scanlating and give their thanks. Yes, I'm a shallow dude.
» PROzess on December 19th, 2011, 9:52am
There's so much a single person (leader of the group) can handle alone.
I closed my group because leecher (why does everyone think that's a negative term? It surely isn't...) annoyed me and they weren't worth the effort anymore.
My love for manga hasn't died down the least, nor will it for any time. But my motivation to share my work (now only translations) with the masses decreases day by day.
People complain about groups accepting donations (which are needed for raws [I don't agree with server cost, because you can actually host a whole group for free, like I did]), but on the other hand they're going to read on Mangafox, the one instance who makes the biggest profit in the community-.-

Mangareader.net: Daily Ad Revenue $4,008 (http://www.estimurl.com/US/www.mangareader.net)
Mangafox.com: Daily Ad Revenue $3,357 (http://www.estimurl.com/US/www.mangafox.com)
Mangastream.com: Daily Ad Revenue $2,937 (http://www.estimurl.com/US/www.mangastream.com)
The biggest parasite is now mangareader, not mangafox anymore.
It should be more correct to say "watermarks courtesy of the parasites at mangareader and mangafox" XD
» T1 on December 19th, 2011, 10:46am
But really...wow scum of earth shown in numbers...sigh no wonder companies get angry at scanlation groups.
» T1 on December 19th, 2011, 10:50am
leecher = annoying idiots who only dls and runs away after trolling you
reader = someone who enjoys your stuff and sometimes say thanks
» PROzess on December 19th, 2011, 11:08am
I like to differentiate into leecher (DL and run) and Fans (DL and say thanks). Reader are we all in the community, but we additionally divide then into Scanlator, Leecher and Fans.
I don't mind if they just come to Dl and leave as long as they keep their mouth shut. But if they start complain..... GNAR

I wouldn't say that it's mainly consists of students.
It's just your biased opinion.
Though it's true that a lot of student join the community to help, they just as quick quit the scene again.
While the working force actually stays in business. They're by far more reliable than the most students. Of course there are exceptions in both cases.
So to take down your personal view of groups, I hold my own opinion against, where I see that the majority of members are from the working force.
have a good day~
» T1 on December 19th, 2011, 10:43am
You student! I student!
If you look at my group, yes students do leave but maaaaan the workers do the same shit! The ones who stay more than others are the students. Yes you get busy and they disappear when they get exams but they always come back. I can't say that with the working class, sadly.
I rather go trust a female student since I know she got the discipline to keep up with the work I give her than the male worker any time and any place, and it's not only cuz I'm biased towards girls. I've just worked in too many groups to know how people act and who you can trust.
» PROzess on December 19th, 2011, 11:11am
Be it student, worker or housewife, I don't care.
The dedication you put in matters, and if it's just 2 hours per week. If it are constant 2 hours with good result, I totally prefer that over someone who provides crap, takes forever and disappears sometimes, but comes online twice a day (to just idle away anyway-.-)

» LeeChamFun on December 17th, 2011, 6:52am
At the end of the day, it boils down to the reader's attitude. They can thank the online reader all they want, but it's not the online reader that brings them their manga/ manhwa, but the groups who did it.
If they don't support the group, how can they even expect the groups to want to do anything at all?
» yennyenn on December 17th, 2011, 11:22am
It's saddening to see them closing!! They did a good job in scanning nurarihyon no mago!
All the best for your studies! Leader!

Look at Hobo-1, he (or she) was doing an awesome work but now it seems to have stopped with no substitute in view.
» T1 on December 18th, 2011, 3:34am
Still I get what you mean and it's much more true for seinen groups than shounen groups. This is one of the things most people reading manga don't get...the line between manga with furi or without furi^^
» PROzess on December 19th, 2011, 9:55am
And since it's for a while now, without any statement, I's sure we can conclude it wasn't a technical problem, but a closure.
» T1 on December 19th, 2011, 10:29am
Wait maybe he got NTR'ed, hahaha-hah! >D
» MewMan on December 17th, 2011, 9:15pm
everyone does what they like, share when they want, and we are happy that they do
(i prefer high quality volume scan to weekly releases anyway ==)
» PROzess on December 19th, 2011, 10:00am
I mean, look at the history of Mangacurse: Project stealing everywhere, and with bad quality on top of that. At least do a decent job if you steal-.-
No matter how much their Quality increased, the hate for them will stay. I'm speaking from experience here. The majority hates me for various reasons too and it doesnt matter how good of a scan I provide.
So the downfall of Mangacurse is like the death of Kim Jong Il. A fellow human died, but since he was an asshole, everyone's happy that he's gone.
» T1 on December 19th, 2011, 10:33am
Anyway you westernized dude...how can you say that he was an asshole? Dude had lots of love for american movies Not everyone is happy...I don't give a damn about it...too many humans die for me to care..and this wasn't even a chick.
To you I present this NS reality news, lol, remember to read the comments: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pSWN6Qj98Iw&f eature=g-all-u&context=G2102a36FAAAAAAAAA AA
