Job Poll
We have a new poll about the job you would take to produce a manga! Vote vote vote~

Previous poll:
Question: For the usual series you read/watch, which of the following do you usually do?

Choices:
Download from the first group that releases - votes: 6277 (42.7%)
Wait for the best quality release - votes: 2069 (14.1%)
Faithfully follow certain groups - votes: 4154 (28.3%)
Do not care - votes: 2202 (15%)
There were 14702 total votes.
The poll ended: February 16th 2008

As I expected, most people read from the first group that releases. That means for all those Bleach/Naruto groups, whoever releases the newest chapter first wins. I pity Maximum7...
(But as for me, I faithfully follow the groups I love~ Maybe it's because I've worked for a lot of the groups I like...)

I try to download them all if i can be bothered... old/new/active or even no longer around for years. But i think in the end i will end up reading the HQ work. It's very rare for me to read any manga week by week, chapter by chapter, but by the time a series is done, i want to make my own mind up which group to stick with. If a group dies during that period, it makes getting them hard so i get them as soon as they're available too.

The people I spoke to seemed to echo my sentiment, which is "a mix of the above." If there's a group I like releasing consistently I'll be patient for that one (unless they take forever...) but if I don't have an attachment I'll wait for the first fairly HQ one.

Personally I do both the first and third options, downloading the first available and I will still download and read from my favorite group later.

I usually download the first release. But once a group or HQ release comes out I download that and delete the fast release.

Yep, same here when it comes to Gantz.

I get the best quality releases there are. I can wait for them as long as they don't take way too long to release every chapter. And once I find a group that has HQ releases I usually stick with them. I think I voted for "Faithfully follow certain groups".

Yeah, maximum7 is always last - I read new chapter as soon as it's released, but I'm kinda used to their scanlations, so those are the ones I keep smile

"Wait for the best quality release" & "Faithfully follow certain groups" it's basically the same thing.
As in you usually follow the group with the best quality releases. That's what I do anyway.

For Bleach, I go with Maximum7. They release a HQ chapter anytime between Saturday and Monday, about 7-9 days between each release, so it's the same as getting the first release from other groups every Friday.

Most series I _love_ are only done by one group, so it's not really an issue.
For series I read more casually, I don't really care. Whichever is out first in decent quality to read it, and then I wait for a group to release it in high quality to archive. (for example, Japflap's Naruto)

I personally either wait for the best quality release or for FMA, a specific group. ;)

What a bad attitude!! No wonder Mahou-X can spread their wings so quickly! How could those people betray the existing scanlation group just because some other goon release faster. Unforgivable...
