I voted unicorn because it was the first thing that caught my eye since I was too lazy to actually go through all of the possible answers. I probably would have chosen walking if I looked properly.

Quite amusing how the votes are shifting as North America goes to bed and Europe awakens. I missed Asia's increase, though...

australia should be changed to oceania for people in nz or the pacific islands ><

thread

» lambchopsil on July 20th, 2013, 10:02am

Unfortunately, I've always been taught that there exist 7 continents. "Oceania" is not a continent in my book

thread

» vishavs on July 20th, 2013, 12:35pm

Well, how hard could it be to learn? It’s preposterous your defense for ignorance is just you weren't taught it. Oceania sounds better regardless, Australia just invites geographic jokes or colonial jokes about prisoners.

thread

» fuyuko00 on July 21st, 2013, 11:18pm

And I don't understand why you can't accept the fact that there are people who were taught things differently than you. Is it that difficult?

thread

» SinsI on July 23rd, 2013, 12:17am

It's 6 continents. Asia and Europe are not continents.

thread

» mateon on July 26th, 2013, 5:54am

actually there are 4 to 7 continents depending on how you look at it
if there are 4 it would be Afro-Eurasia,America,Australia and Antarctica
this would be using the definition that a continent is a large, continuous, discrete mass of land usually separated by water as Africa, Asia and Europe are separated and neither is north and south America
however the way i learned it was 7 continents which are each on continental plates
also Australia is sometimes called Australasia or Oceania to include the other islands near Australia

Clearly regular walking is better than riding a dragon. When asked without setting a location and time period most people would automatically think of their normal lives and stick with what they're comfortable with.. Regular walking allows us to blend into the crowd and go about our activities, scrupulous or otherwise. A dragon draws too much attention, and distances you people you may want to meet and interact with.. Also there's only so much room on a dragon so you may not be able to bring all your friends.. >.>;;

Also, for this poll.. Clearly I am a researcher living in Antarctica for the next five years drilling for ice cores.. >.>;;; No..? Fine, fine.. I'm some where in North America. :3

Seems like the world doesn't not agree on how many continents there are. I was taught 5 (continents) in school (but that was when we were taught that there were 9 planets in our solar system and that was years ago...).

I am at a disbelief people are connecting from antarctica. Just do an IP lookup of the poll goers (assuming they aren't behind a proxy) and compare it to the poll results. Even if there were only two options like earth or space people would still vote for space in sheer jest of the system.

How can someone not live on a continent? Even autonomous regions belong to some continent.

Well, I live in The Bahamas, most of the time we are lumped together with Latin America, but we reside in the northern region so, I'll just say the Americas

thread

» SinsI on July 22nd, 2013, 2:15pm

The answer is definite - it is Eurasia. Poll creator doesn't know what a "continent" is.

thread

» SinsI on July 22nd, 2013, 2:13pm

I choose the continent Eurasia.

I live in Panama. It's supposed to be part of America, but since that is not an option, I won't vote... I wouldn't say I'm near Colombia because it's really dangerous to cross the border, so you usually travel by plane and the ticket it's nearly as expensive as the ticket to Canada. Ok, maybe I'm exaggerating a bit...

I live in Asia (Japan) but am from Europe (the UK).

I was taught Europe, Asia, America (North and South), Africa, Australasia, and Antarctica were the continents in school. Though usually North and South America are separated in the news and other things. Conventionally a continent should be a large, continuous landmass, but then that leaves out the island countries, and Greenland is considered an island despite it being bigger than Australia (which is seen as a continent), so given that no one seems to be able to decide on an exact definition of exactly what constitutes as a continent, I guess the 7 continent teaching popular in most of the English-speaking world, as well as Western-Europe, China and India (so pretty much most of the educated population of the planet) is probably the best to go by. Still, I imagine this topic will always be somewhat controversial, like so many things.

Since some people got mad that everyone else weren't taught the same as them, here's some information about it:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Continent#Number_of_continents

I had myself never heard of "Eurasia" before.

Same here. roll eyes

Why can't people understand that people are taught different things... "The answer is definite."? Just, what the flying fuck. It's a poll... On a manga forum. No need to shove your (what you think is) "correct" knowledge on others.

Eurasia is misleading to be put together. Europe has long been considered a western culture whereas Asia has always been known as an eastern culture. I don't understand why people would learn of the two to be together. If so, then would I be known as Eurasian American? That's strange. But I suppose if this is based off of continental plates, then I suppose you guys should also be arguing for Indo-Australia since it's one plate just like Eurasia is.
