New Poll - X vs. Twitter
This week's poll was something I was thinking about today. Do you call it X or Twitter?

You can submit poll ideas here
http://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?tid=3903

Previous Poll Results:
Question: How do you normally dry your washed clothes?
Choices:
In-unit dryer - votes: 1032 (40.8%)
Communal dryer shared by the building - votes: 128 (5.1%)
At a laundromat - votes: 70 (2.8%)
Hang dry - votes: 1300 (51.4%)
There were 2530 total votes.
The poll ended: March 30th, 2024 9:01am PDT

I currently don't have an in-unit dryer, so I have to hang dry my clothes. My clothes feel hard after drying since my water isn't the softest

It is not a mess, it is just way harder to change website name than you think... Redirecting from x to twitter is easy... But changing twitter to x for good will take years

Though yeah i still call it twitter

twitter.com is displayed no matter what at all times. You either rebrand or you don´t. There is no in-between. That is the branding failure and one of the endless reasons why the site lost over 70% of its value since its acquisition 2 years ago. Even Musk acknowledged that it´s bleeding money since the takeover. Any random crackhead could run the company better but his unplanned destruction of hellscape.com is one of the few good deeds of his life.

What? I have no idea. Social media platform? Is that like IRC or something?

EDIT: whoops I accidentally replied to someone

I thought the difficulty of changing a site name is one of the reasons people were so against it, because of how impractical it is. Is that not common knowledge? It's not my social media of choice so I don't care, but that is also is why I'll only call it X if he manages to change the url.

(Late to the party but wanted to add)

It is not only a problem for X/Twitter but other websites with databases have fields with twitter as a name.

Example: The Mangaupdates database backend has a string variable named "twitter" under authors

Other places it will stay the twitter/blue bird logo for a long time if not forever

- Jury duty instructional videos on what you can't do
- religious (like individual church pages) and museum webpages

Who the hell calls it X? Twitter is Twitter!

Is it fair to say "tweet" any more? I am X-ing!

I have to be honest, to this day I don't understand why Musk changed the name of a social media platform that already has a strong brand.

Tweet, Tweeting, TWITTER. And with a bird logo.

I'll call it twitter no matter what

Calling it X, is inexcusable.

I still call it Twitter. X just doesn't roll off the tongue as well

I abstain from mentioning it. I dislike how they were one of the first "free" social media to aggressively force you to log in or register.

This is the most annoying thing - it's hard to even share things from that site with anyone who doesn't have an account or isn't logged in these days. Feels counter-intuitive...most social sites let you view the linked post and a little more before they hit you with "Like what you see? SIGN UP NOW!!" pop-up.

I call it Twitter because they haven't done enough to really rebrand it as X (they kind of forced it and it wasn't a smooth transition). People were calling it the "bird app" for too long, too, and that's a lot funner to say.

Elon Musk still dead-names trans people, it'd be absolute lunacy to respect his renaming of Twitter

Actually, the ability to see linked posts (but not any replies of anything like that), was reinstated, due to the fierce reaction.
...except with some posts.
I don't know of any pattern, to which posts can, or can't, be viewed without logging in
...but worst of all, the ones that you can't see, don't give you a "you must log in to view", but an error message telling you the post doesn't exist!
(I created a basic account, purely for the purpose of viewing linked posts ...and some artists who, for some reason, post their illustrations on Twitter. I'd prefer to avoid the platform, even before Elon bought it)

Clearly I am behind the times. I didn't even know X existed. X just sounds stupid. I think it will always be Twitter to me.

I'm not sure if I should look down on you, for not being aware of what is happening, or be deeply envious of you, for not being aware of what is happening.

LOL. It's definitely Twitter. I don't use it anyway but I'll never call it X.

I heard some people are so against it that they aren't even saying Malcom X any more but Malcom Twitter.
