I'm actually surprised that so many people voted. I expected this to be an unpopular one.

Totally agree. And besides, after reading manga for a while you come across currency enough to remember roughly what it would be in your local currency. Or at least it's easy for me because I can just use the approximation of 100yen = $1.
What I don't like is when they change the amount to the local currency using the exact exchange rate of the day. Exchange rates change constantly, so there's no need to put in the extra effort to include exact amounts when it'll just change later.

After reading "Liar Game", it's impossible for me not to know since they talk about money in every chapter ^^

For official translations, of course, I expect a translation note with whatever country's currency they're publishing in (USD for American publishers, NT for Taiwan publishers, etc.). Again, I prefer approximations over exact figures.

Original from is required as exchange rate will differ as time passes. Well original value will also change depending on when you're reading, I mean Egg prices wouldn't be same after 5+ years where author lives. But, anyone will ignore that for a good read and most of the good authors states which year/time it's based on. And Fantasy/Medieval can can see some tranquillity in that regard.

If you really want to know what the amount is in your currency, go and google it yourself.

That's what official manga translators do, too. It can always be seen in officially published manga.

I'm not an American. and I'm sure some scanlator are not Americans either. so, conversion to USD is just useless for me. I just grasp the values these Yen has in Japan.

If a story is taking place in Japan, the currency there is Yen. If the story is taking place in England, the currency there are Pounds.
And so on & so forth.

But if you are translating it, you have to take into account the setting- i.e. translators of Moonlight Sculptor used the current US/Won conversion rate, which was a big mistake: since it is set in the future, and Korea suffered x10 price inflation, their conversion was vastly incorrect.
As such, it is best to change the currency into some kind of "Big Mac index" - that way the translation stays relevant regardless of real life currency fluctuations.

There are exceptions, though... for instance, one time I saw a manga which featured American soldiers... and they were talking about some new sneakers and how much they cost... and they said they cost a specific amount of yen. In this case, I'd give it a rough conversion to USD, just to make sense in terms of the the context with the characters, and make the line still flow naturally. Nobody cares if the conversion is entirely accurate, but I would definitely find it odd if american soldiers were conversing with each other about how much something costs in yen. Unless, of course, they were stationed in Japan or something.
Just be logical about it.

That meme is kinda dead now but it's really good when it last, but for general scanlation, I prefer to see it in original with conversion to USD, not because I'm from US but that's just the most universal currency we got right now mmm...
