Tachiyomi users, please read this.
Hi all,

About 2-3 days ago, we noticed a significant increase in traffic to our API. It appeared to be coming from thousands of individual IPs, each querying for updated status on a single series every few seconds. We initially thought this was an attack, and started blocking IPs. Eventually, we realized these were active user accounts, so we started banning the associated account.

We now believe this wasn't an attack, but rather a misconfigured app or plugin called Tachiyomi. While I'm not very familiar with the app, it turns out it was a reader/tracker which has been decommissioned as of a few days ago. I do not know why that coincided with the uptake in traffic, but it appears a misconfiguration in the app causes it to request status on various series every few seconds. With everyone's client/app doing this at the same time, it causes significant load and we had to take action.

As a result, we have banned some users using this app. If you want your account unbanned, please email myself or lamb (click API to the right to get our email addresses). I would prefer that Tachiyomi fix the app, but it seems the developers do not plan to continue development. As a result, I don't believe this will be resolved.

We're sorry for the inconvenience.

Tachiyomi split into a few forks. I don't know if github supports private issue reporting, like gitlab does, but it might be worth contacting them with some details:

https://github.com/Jays2Kings/tachiyomiJ2K
https://github.com/jobobby04/TachiyomiSY
https://github.com/mihonapp/mihon

Should we disable the mangaupdates tracking on tachyomi in the meanwhile ?

EDIT: It appears that the issue still does happen but it seems to be infrequent. I've logged out of my tracker for now until it actually is resolved.

It seems to have been fixed in Mihon 0.16.1 with the Fix score issue with MangaUpdates commit 99fd273 and after observing the network traffic with PCAPdroid by reading a couple chapters to update the tracker status it appears to be fine. Since Tachiyomi has stopped development it's recommended to migrate over as I believe the issue affects Tachiyomi versions 0.15.2 to 0.15.3.

Also if you've been banned you wouldn't even be able to see the news post and forums if you were previously logged in as everything shows up as errors and it doesn't even give you the option to logout so you have to delete the cookies for the site to be able to see anything again unless you get unbanned.

I am among the users that got banned because of Tachiyomi's tracker. I am unban now (thanks lambchopsil). That being said, the tracker is a very helpful tool for me to update my list of read chapters. Is Mihon app a good alternative for this? I am ready to migrate as long as there is a Baka-Update sync tracker. I don't want to get banned again. 🙁

EDIT: It appears that the issue still does happen but it seems to be infrequent. I would recommend to not use MangaUpdates tracking in both Tachiyomi or Mihon for now.

Mihon is a fork of Tachiyomi since it has stopped active development and is archived now. TachiyomiSY (and possibly other forks going forward) will now be using Mihon as the base source now. Just think of Mihon as just a continuation of base Tachiyomi.

Mixon is out already ? Can you transfer everything from tachiyomi over it like tabs, chapters read and etc? I still using the last updated version of tachiyomi before they stopped updating the app

And sad that manga update tracker still no good, it by far the most complete manga list out there, I've looked into transferring my list to another site but they all would be missing too many things , at least it seems like mihon will have active development, hope they can fix this so we can use our tracker safely

Also, is possible to use the tracker if you leave the "update after reading" option turned off ?

Yes only name changed the code is same.

Mixon is another fork made from the last version to act as successor since the kakao sued them and the og Devs thought they have enough.

Tachiyomi/Mihon and various other forks provide a quick method for users to track their manga, manhwa, etc easily with MU. This is the best thing because it has become much easier to interact with MU directly. I've seen authors sharing a screenshot of their series from this site and commenting about the score that overseas fans have given to their work. As such, I believe MU is a must for tracking manga and Tachiyomi does it better. I hope any bug or issue is fixed so that the API doesn't have to be overloaded with requests.

I use MU because they don't have much restrictions for adding titles.

Anilist only add asian language ones( means even if the author is japanese, if source comic ia not Japanese /chinese/korean, they won't accept them).

MAL is very "offical" so they will only add of there is an 'offical' source for the comic.

But MU adds any comics irrespective of how old they are or which ever language they are.

One of the developers for the tachiyomi fork "mihon" helped us figure out a way to reduce the traffic. As a result, we unbanned everyone. You should be able to continue using the apps for now.

Tachiyomi is quite a game changer in this "industry", pretty much as much as DC++ was back in the days. I hope that TY and MU won't be in each other's way.

Are we talking about app for downloading and reading manga? it's been down for quite some time, because of some stupid drama. Luckily there are apps similar to Tachiyomi such as Mihon.
