New Poll - Sustenance with Manga
This week's poll was suggested by Otakuch. It's pretty straightforward, so nothing for me to say.

You can submit poll ideas here
http://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?tid=3903

Previous Poll Results:
Question: What's your main method of finding a new series to read?
Choices:
I read the new series for authors that I already like - votes: 94 (2.4%)
I look for stuff similar to what I already like - votes: 429 (11.2%)
I read all the latest chapter 1 releases - votes: 55 (1.4%)
I ask for personal recommendations - votes: 31 (0.8%)
I look at what's popular or recommended by many people - votes: 153 (4%)
I just read everything I can find my hands on - votes: 136 (3.5%)
I look for stuff with the highest ratings - votes: 166 (4.3%)
I look for series that fulfill specific categories or genres - votes: 1071 (27.9%)
I look at those clickbait thumbnails or titles - votes: 312 (8.1%)
I read the synopsis or summary and choose what looks interesting - votes: 1201 (31.3%)
Other method not listed - votes: 191 (5%)
There were 3839 total votes.
The poll ended: June 6th 2020

Maybe those clickbait thumbnails or titles peak the initial interest and then you choose to read the synopsis or summary. I remember hearing how Youtubers need to put a lot of effort into their thumbnails and titles to get the initial click to get more views

Wow, thank you for choosing mine. I do sometimes.

Sometimes. Mostly drinking and I eat white watching things all the time. Basically all my meals at home are in front of a film or show.

I drink while reading manga, but don't really eat (maybe some snacks, but not a meal.) Unless it's a webtoon that you can just scroll down. I use mangadex and have the page set a fit width, so I have to scroll down to read the whole page. To do that while eating would be too much of a pain.

I did/do eat while watching anime or reading novels as you either don't need to do anything or just need to scroll down every once in a while, but I'm currently trying to stop doing that.

Never. My parents were always strict about eating only in the kitchen and not doing anything else except eating while I'm there (including talking, apparently). It's so ingrained in me now that even when I first moved out, I didn't dare to eat in my own dorm room... And now I'm just used to it.

I'm not going to eat a proper meal, but I'll get something snacky

It depends. If it's something I read on a weekly basis, I may have a small snack or two. If it's something I've been waiting a while to update, I make a little event out of it. Like when Berserk or Vagabond would update :'( I would wait til my following off day to read the new chapter. I'd do my morning routine, cook a hearty breakfast, and settle in on my couch with a warm blanket and pillows before reading.

Seldom.
If it's a really interesting scene, I'm gonna be distracted as hell. So, um, ye.

I can't multitask, not even when it comes to simple things like drinking and reading at the same time.

I drink (non-alcoholic beverages) when reading. On some occasions, I'll have a snack. I've never eaten a full meal while reading, that's too distracting.

I always have a water bottle on hand no matter what I'm doing. I rarely eat while reading because I have to put the book down so often.

I think this is the funniest poll I have seen since I'm on this website, it made me laugh reading the subject haha.

Nonetheless seeing the results, the answer isn't as obvious as I felt it was… I do eat often when reading mangas or watching something and even more so, I do those things when eating rather than the other way around. I've been living alone for a few years and I've pretty much made it a tradition to always watch something or read.

I don't watch much anime nowadays but it used to be my main meal companion in the past. I would launch an episodic show like Cromartie and I would end up lengthening my meal enough to last two episodes usually, including making tea and some dessert. Now, it's mostly reading mangas exclusively or, if I have a video I needed to watch, doing so.

What do people who only eat think about this? I feel like it's a waste of time (if you're eating alone, that is, but I would say the same if you're eating with other people and not talking). Though at least you don't spend a good hour eating and doing unplanned things. Sometimes I also like to just finish my meal quickly.

There are actually quite a couple of reasons it's better to eat without media. Personally, about half the time I eat along YouTube videos, too, though not really to manga, although I used to.
But you eat less because you realize sooner when you are full, you enjoy the food more because it's actually your main focus, and if you eat with people (you like), it's more enjoyable to eat and chat. So, pros and cons, it really depends on your personal preferences.

With manga, i usually focus on reading but if I end up eating something at all, it's usually tea & snacks.

Not very often but there were the odd times then when the somewhat inverse would happen. I'd be lightly drinking (beer) alone in the pub or at home and sometimes just felt like reading manga from my tablet when things felt peaceful enough. Cathartic at times, really.
