Oh god, it depends. If it's really good and there's nothing extremely urgent to do, I don't mind reading a few hours.
That said, it's been a while since that happened for me. Because it's hard to find a manga like that and even if you do, most don't have that many chapters.

When there's work to do, I also like to alternate between reading a chapter and then continueing my work.

I can quit whenever I want. I just don't want to.
I don't have a problem, YOU'RE A PROBLEM!

Where's the 'at the end of this arc' option...?

That said, there's a lot of variation, like what I'm stopping for, what time it is, what kind of manga I'm reading, how interesting it is... it could go anywhere from stopping in the middle of a chapter to 4 hours during which I keep thinking 'need... to... stop... now...'

thread

» MinatoAce on February 14th, 2015, 1:57am

Well normally, “ Just one more chapter... or 50 ”...
But, in case of immediate need like Study purposes and family problems, I would go for, “ Let me finish this chapter ”...but, depends on the situation, I might choose, “ I can stop mid-chapter ”...!

I never had a good self-control to begin with...say Games(virtual and physical) or Story or Movies or Anime...not in anything...And especially not in case of food, ya...I'm a glutton...but, not a bit fat...rather I'm even lacking the necessary amount of it ~!

» herrdachs on February 14th, 2015, 2:09am

Yeah, it varies. Like someone above wrote, unless there's something extremely urgent to do, I prolly wont stop until it gets boring. Case in point, when I read Vagabond, Berserk and GTO; I finished the chapters of all of these mangas (those released at the time), and a few other mangas, within days.

Read from morning till evening! I had nothing better to do, so I ended up in a manga-binge. Thankfully these didn't get boring... laugh

Completely depends on how important/urgent the reason is, for why I need to stop reading.
I can be, as I was once, when I was reading a book before going to sleep "just a bit more ...until I finish this chapter ...just one more chapter ...and another...[this goes on for a while] eh... it's morning. I guess I'll just give up on sleep and go get breakfast" (it was a very good book)

However, if it's urgent enough, I'll just stop, instantly (especially as I know myself, and know that "just a little bit..." can be dangerous).

» vivant on February 14th, 2015, 3:34am

Hmm.. A little bit difficut.. Mostly "Just one more chapter... or 50".

"Until death do us part" or "When I finish the series" is when I read 20th Century Boys, Homonculus, Parasyte, something like that~
I remember the time I read Noblesse in LINE Webtoon on my Xperia Z2 from chapter 1 until 346 in just two days (on weekdays). OH GOD MY EYES dead

But for some urgent matter (like study or family) I can even stop mid-chapter since RL is more important. smile

thread

» tactics on February 14th, 2015, 5:27am

I don't read as much manga as I used to, the days of binging are over. So if I want to stop reading something, I will just stop. I like to finish the chapter I'm reading though.

thread

» That3rdGuy on February 14th, 2015, 8:07am

I can usually stop mid-chapter, but I usually finish it and bookmark the next chapter or just bookmark the first page of the chapter I didn't finish. I used to read manga until I was about to pass out. I've pretty much read all the manga I liked and now just wait for new chapters to come out. I mostly use my time watching pirated TV shows and movies nowadays. Only read periodically.

Dunno if anyone else noticed because I'm too lazy to read the other comments, but the last choice has the word "any" twice. Just a small typo.

Why would I need to stop reading a manga ever?

thread

» Dionaea on February 14th, 2015, 8:20am

I have little to no self-control, though my reading leads more to sleep deprivation then to work not getting done. Also, it's easier for me to not start, then it is to stop once I've started... So my main way of self control is just not reading at all for a day none

thread

» tribal2199 on February 14th, 2015, 8:29am

When I start a new manga and it gets good I could mean to only read a few chapters but usually end up staying up all night reading until it finishes or I'm all caught up.

I can drop everything I'm doing at a moment's notice if I need to, even sleep.

thread

» hkanz on February 14th, 2015, 9:14am

I don't stop mid-chapter, they're not long enough to ever inspire me to. Other than that I'll stop whenever; I've been quite busy with other things lately so not much time for reading manga.

thread

» kyattsuai on February 14th, 2015, 11:18am

I'm definitely one of the "Just one more chapter... or 50" readers.. If I'm really into the manga, it's really difficult to get me to stop. I lost count on the number of nights/mornings I spent reading instead of sleeping even though I had to wake up very earlier the next day. lol Of course there has been times that for one reason or another I just had to stop.. in those cases I'll stop at the end of the chapter. Stopping mid-chapter is impossible for me. biggrin

thread

» TundraDweller on February 14th, 2015, 12:56pm

I stop when I can no longer keep my eyes open, when I start drifting off in my chair and people at home start shouting at me "Go to bed already, you haven't slept for two days!" OR when I'm 10 minutes late to go somewhere or do something really important. laugh Guess only the top option is suitable for me.

If you celebrate the holiday, I wish you a Happy Valentine's Day~

Edit:
It depends on the series so ranging from one new chapter to the end of a series available, I picked "Just one more chapter...or 50".

thread

» soraking on February 14th, 2015, 4:56pm

dont read too much, but once i pick something up and if its complete i tend to finish it in one go unless its long enough to kill me of course

thread

» quark1020 on February 14th, 2015, 5:29pm

If its work, then I have to stop. Can't read manga if i have no job, online or otherwise. Anything else, though, I can live without :3. The usual sacrifice is sleep, but I've already come to the conclusion that I won't be able to sleep either way if I'm too interested in a series. In this case, I may as well continue reading 'till I'm satisfied and get a solid few hours sleep versus the standard 8 hours of lying in bed thinking about the manga.

thread

» residentgrigo on February 14th, 2015, 5:32pm

I guess that a lot of us dream of a stable marriage or the choices were crap.
Let me finish this chapter as my reading list won´t become a mess like this is my motto.
I can game/read/watch for 10 hours+ with only food breaks and so on but i always go for a logical ending point and i know in advance when i will stop.
I wonder why i have glasses roll eyes . I drop things that waste my time immediately nowadays so "when it starts getting boring" is the furthest from my mind.

To be honest mangaupdates could use a bit of "self-control" and stop having a knee-jerk-takedown reaction.

I have tried to help you back in December and Nov 2013 and explain that you have more rights to intellectual property than you realize. Rights to link what you want even to material not hosted by you that violates copyright. Section 230 deals especially with that topic. I tried to make you aware that people filing DMCA claims were in the legal wrong and are even more in the legal wrong as Section 230 has changed.

However, I cannot help people who are not willing to help themselves. Mangaupdates has to be willing to exhibit some "self-control" and defend yourself. If you look at the links below, you need to learn to be willing to defend yourself now more than ever.

I read chapter by chapter. I don't really need to stop reading at any point in the middle. If I were in a hurry to do something, I wouldn't even start doing anything that I would need to stop midway.

I am definitely "Just one more chapter...or maybe 50." I can never concentrate on my work, so I just start reading, thinking, "Oh just a few chapters and then I'll continue." But I always end up reading a lot more than a few chapters, and when I think of stopping, I can't until I realize that I am gonna lose sleep finishing my work laugh that false sense of security gets me every time no

Okay, "when it starts getting boring" is totally irrelevant and shouldn't be an option here because the question isn't, "When do you drop a manga?" The question is, "When do you stop reading?", i.e. before going to bed, etc. Unless, of course, the intended meaning was actually, "when the action reaches a lull," or, "when the story slows down," or something similar. Anyway, I chose "just one more chapter" because I can keep myself up to ungodly hours of the evening... err, morning... reading a good manga. smile wink grin

When it starts getting boring is a valid option. I rarely drop a manga, and I tend to have terrible self control ... I always have other things I SHOULD do (like laundry or the dishes ... cleaning in general. Or sleep, lol) but I don't because I always have that "Just one more chapter" in me.
However, there's times when I just get bored of it and able to stop to do whatever I need to do, then come back and finish reading it. Of course when I get back to reading it I would have to force myself to get past this boring section.

My answer is .... all except the "strong self control" option. biggrin
I picked "Just one more chapter ... or 50."

It depends on the manga, whether I'm reading one-shots, or the latest (few) chapters of a series or starting a new manga that has less than 50 chapters(counting them at ~30pgs each) out or a long one 100-200 chapters or a super long one over 300/ongoing.

I'd say definitely finish the chapter or a few chapters so "Just 1 more or 50".

And if I really need to stop or not.

thread

» Natsuki@ on February 18th, 2015, 10:09am

Somewhere between when I finish the series and just one more chapter... It really depends on the fact what I'm reading is it already finished or not? If I have the complete series or a few volumes it can go from just one chapter to just this volume and then before I know it it 4 hours later.

Well I can have some restraint and all nighters reading manga do not happen that often, the manga has to be real good for me to make an all nighter. Basicly if I do not have to work the day after that I read somewhat more than planned with manga, light novels or books.
