New Poll - Anime OP/ED
This week's poll is going out a tiny bit earlier than usual since I won't be available much this weekend to put one up at the regular time. But anyways, the idea comes from the brain of our member StephKuran. This one should be a no-brainer in terms of how you'd answer, but maybe you can include some of your favorite songs? One of mine would be "You Raise Me Up" by Lena Park, which was the OP for Romeo x Juliet. As for an ED, there's "Anna ni Issho Datta no ni" by See-Saw for Gundam SEED.

You can submit poll ideas here (and try to keep them manga/anime-related)

I know OPs tend to make more impact, but it just so happens that the songs I really like are the EDs:

Kimi no Shiranai Monogatarifrom Bakemonogatari by supercell
Brave Song from Angel Beats! by Tada Aoi
Secret Base from AnoHana by ZONE

Maybe consider the insert song option?
一番の宝物 〜Yui final ver.〜 from Angel Beats!

Wow it seems you got the same taste as me xD

I still voted for OP though since EXCEPT from these OPs tend to sound better for me biggrin

Also I cannot understand people who skip the OPs/EDs. I'm the type that watches animes for the OP/ED alone if the rest doesn't annoy me too much wink

What if I tend to like Insert Song?

oh well, my fav OP ever is We Are from One Piece
as for ED my fav is Anata Dake Mitsumeteru from Slam Dunk
and I love all Code Geass's Insert Song
biggrin

There should be an option for both. I like OPs and EDs for different reasons; the former because it has more impact, the latter because of the feels.

Should be both, though I slightly prefer OPs for being more energetic.

Openings, although admittedly I skip 99% of openings when I watch anime. Sometimes I find a rare one that I really like (usually because of the song) so I don't mind watching it. But most of the time I skip them.
I don't even bother with the endings.

TERRIBLE POLL!! BLARGBLARGRAGEBLARG!!

Got that out of my system biggrin

Would have liked a both, since my likes depend on the song itself, not just because it starts or ends.

Agreed, absolutely inane, simply a question for the sake of a question.
It's the sort of thing one would come up with, if one were suddenly forced to come up with a poll question and only given 10 seconds to do so.

If the OP's a better song, people will prefer it; conversely if the ED's more enjoyable, people will like it better.

Next weeks poll: Apples or Oranges? Which is best?

I too, am surprised that the suggestion for this poll made it through! It is a rather 'apples or oranges' type of question, like someone else here said! Of course it depends on the musical theme itself- not on whether it is an 'opening' or 'ending'. I'm glad that there are no more religious or denominational questions in the polls, but please choose better poll suggestions next time! sad

thread

» kayue on February 15th, 2013, 9:27pm

Hmm... Both?

Among those I remember (and I guess are faves. Either that or I've watched them too many times) are
"Get Over" and "I'll be the one" OP from Hikaru no Go
"Ohayo" OP from Hunter x Hunter (original).
"I'm Alive" ED from Kuroshitsuji. I liked this one more than the anime (which I never finished). I even made a ringtone from it.

Oh, we're insulting the poll for the sake of insulting the poll now-a-days? Great! Let me try!

Hey, lamby! I don't understand the difference between an opening that's generally designed to get my attention and draw me into what I'm watching. -verses- An ending that's normally hastily made cause people tend to tune out after their show is over, yet because of this, an ED sometimes produces inadvertently catchy tunes and/or an animation that becomes a meme, and some people like that kinda thing. I also don't understand that these things might be subjective in terms of an individual's taste regarding quarkyness versus usual attention grabbing.

...

Aw, nerts. I failed. (And yeah, sometimes I gripe about the polls too, but at least I have a DAMN good reason for doing so...)

This, I guess. I'll watch it once, then skip it for the rest of the run, but there's always that ONE anime per season that has a legitimately catchy song I just can't bring myself to skip. Last season? Oh God, Tonari no Kaibutsu.

I feel the same way about endings too, but I usually give exception to things made by SHAFT. They make neat things. Bakemonogatari, anyone? As a side note, Bakemonogatari is one of the few anime I'll watch beginning to end without skipping an ED or OP.

Maybe even a little of this too, but I'd reword it in a way that wouldn't make me look like SUCH a blind, holier-than-thou asshole. Balance, sir, balance. Something like:

I don't listen to cheesy, generic music in anime if it presents itself as obviously cheesy, generic anime music. Like those ED's that have the voice actors screeching terrible karaoke as super deformed characters dance around my screen? Ickky; instant skip. Random/generic techno or pop track with par-for-the-course vocals? Noooooo~! Gunslinger Girl's season one opening "The Light Before We Land"? Yes, please!

There we go!

In my opinion, both the op/ed are important, but if I look at it realistically the op is slightly more significant. Whichever anime we watch it starts out with the op and sets the mood for the show to come.

This is manga/anime forum so it makes more than enough sense to know opinions on everything related to them.

And well this poll is good enough as it helps you to know the views people hold towards anime opending/endings. Instead of bashing the poll why don't you try to look at the bright side? Many people don't care to watch openings/endings so you can tell them how wrong/right they are. You can share the examples where openings are good and vice-versa.

On topic: I generally don't like the endings so obviously my vote would be for openings.

Out of all the anime I've watched so far, there are:

7 where I always watch the OP and ED
15 where I always watch the OP
21 where I skip both

I also know a lot more songs than I've watched anime, since I play a lot of Osu! and those are often very well made beatmaps.

Carnival phantasm ed, kingdom first and last ed, binbougami op, shakugan no shana and index's, gundam age's, jojo's,... I use to know them first by the anime and when looking for full versions I start to know the singers behind.

I don't really know, I clicked ending because the only song that came to my mind right away was an ending theme...

Ben-To Ending sounds so chilled so nice smile

And really tend to like the ending more, but that's probably because I don't have watched enough anime to tell... sad Ah, I really can't tell, that's not something that I do analyze. I like a song or not and that's it. smile There sure are some great anime songs out there!

I have to question how well put the question was. I mean, sure, the ending and opening matter but let's be honest, you watch the anime for the actual show so obviously, you tend to like that the best. Which isn't one of the options. Opening - I mean it will be the majority and win, it's what gets you excited for the show. I wish back in the 90's instead of redoing and botching up an opening in English, American bands and musicians would have their music put it. The only ones I can think of is the Red Hot Chilli Peppers in Beck Live Action, and Mariah Carey in You're Under Arrest Live Action.

Most people don't watch the endings so I'd say that's the reason why OP is winning. But it depends. I guess the opening has to be more upbeat and catchy compared to the ending. I like most music so yeah....both can do well.

normally i skip both OP's and ED's since jpop isn't really my thing. occasionally i'll like a track or animation sequence here and there, though (op of cowboy bebop comes to mind...and that entire soundtrack)

I have a special place in my heart for both OP and ED songs and animations.I tend to watch the OP more, thougjh that isn't much of a basis for choosing one or the other; I loved all of the songs from the first FMA series for instance... though now that I think about it, I guess I like ED songs better... if only because of this. (ignoring the animation anyway.)... Or this... or this.

There are a lot of good ones, now I think about it.Though my favorite opening has to be this one. I'm probably biased, though, since this song is the reason I found JDA in the first place... plus, Black Jack.

I currently like tegami bachi's 2nd OP theme -
"Rabu Retaa no Kawari ni Kono Uta o. (Instead of a Love Letter, Take This Song.)"

for ED, I love sakamichi no Apollon's "Altair" and Hakuoki's "Akane Sora ni Negau"

my all time favorite though is "One more time, One more chance" from 5cm per second.

thread

» KJacket on February 21st, 2013, 9:44am

If we treat both equally as good, there is more bias towards OPs.

Let's say half the people skip the OP, those who do, will probably skip the ED as well.

The other half who watch the OP for various reasons (because it's only a mere 1minute long, it's catchy, at least once, etc) don't HAVE to watch the ED, like how some people leave a movie theatre without finishing the ending credits. Numerically, EDs are already at a disadvantage.

And well, as most have mentioned, it really depends on the song...

I know this is pretty late, but totally couldn't help procrastinating lol. bigrazz

Although I don't watch much anime compared to reading manga, I LOVE watching anime OP and ED. Sometimes, I end up checking out almost all the new anime season's OP and ED at least once just for fun. I actually love OPs and EDs equally, but tend to watch OPs more often since they tend to be more 'action-y', whereas EDs tend to be more 'slow.'
I have a crappy memory so these are just some of my favourites off the top of my head:

Animation and Song-wise:
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya OP1 'Bouken Desho Desho?' and ED1 'Hare Hare Yukai/Full' (Yes, I'm biased lol xd)
Lucky Star OP 'Motteke! Sailor Fuku' (I just can't resist dance OP/EDs haha)
Bakemonogatari ED 'Kimi no Shiranai Monogatari' (Because it's Supercell <3)
OreImo OP 'Irony/True End' (I just love the animation and also when I became a fan of ClariS ;D)
Maria†Holic ED1 'Kimi Ni Mune Kyun' (Because SHAFT always makes the most creative and unique OP/EDs xD)
Soredemo Machi wa Mawatteiru OP 'DOWN TOWN' (You have to turn up the volume a bit for this, but also by SHAFT)
ef: a tale of memories OP 'euphoric field' and ef: a tale of melodies OP 'ebullient future' (I just love the use and choice of art)
Guilty Crown OP1 'My Dearest' and OP2 'The Everlasting Guilty Crown' (Despite what everybody said about the actual series' story, the animation and music is still top-notch IMO)
Rozen Maiden Traumend OP 'Sei Shojo Ryoiki' (I just can't resist gothic lolita stuff~)
Eureka 7 OP3 'Taiyou no Mannaka he' (Not actually my favourite E7 OP since all of them all good, but probably the one with the most touching story?) and OP4 'Sakura'
Moyashimon OP 'Curriculum' (So much cuteness! x3)
Macross Frontier OP2 'Lion' (I actually love anytime Ranka and Sheryl do duets~) and OP special 'Seikan Hikou' (Kira~ Too cute <3)
CLANNAD ED1 'Dango Daikazoku' (Also too much cuteness, but I actually like the guitar version better)
K-ON! OP 'Cagayake! GIRLS' and ED 'Don't say ''lazy''' (Truth be told, I don't really them music-wise, but I liked the animation)
Nichijou OP 'Hyadain no Kakakata kataomoi-C (I actually only found this through a Madoka Magica parody lol)
Paprika OP 'Mediational Field' (Love both the music and animation! ;d)

Song-wise Only:
Gunslinger Girl: Il Teatrino OP 'Tatta Hitotsu no Omoi' (Reason I became a fan of KOKIA <3)
Shakugan no Shana OP1 'Hishoku no Sora'
Kami-sama no Memo-cho OP 'Kawaru Mirai' (Gotta love Choucho's voice! One of my favourite utaites! xD)
BTOOOM! OP 'No Pain, No Game' (Another one of my favourite utaites, I just love her English~)
Binbougami ga! OP 'Make My Day' (One of my favourite genderbending utaites! Could you believe this was sung by a guy? xd)

Also, just for nostalgia's sake laugh

(Wow, this ended up way longer than I planned. Heck tbh, I haven't even seen half these shows lol (屮´Д`);屮)
