Funny thing, no one cares about the morality of early raws and the consequenes of the arrests.
Scanlation has been a grey zone ever since, but the raw competition for weekly series is outright illegal at this point.
All they care about is "who will translate project XY next...

Well, there is no real quality control. Who's going to judge what level of translation quality is permissible?

No need for quality control. Any blind guy can spot a machine translation.
Of course proper English is no sign for an accurate translation, but im...

So much for the ban of "business" deals on MU. Mods are doing their job properly!

And btw, Himmel, don't trust the previous kind ladies, who posted here. Their translation quality is questinable and you're a better off using google translate. That ain't gonna cost you....

I would say :
- discovering the raws on Mangalator encourages you to buy the manga in vo as soon as it is published in Japan.
- discovering the manga through the scantradteam encourages you to buy the manga when it is licensed in your country. .

It does not...

So basically, you'll be bitchin' either way. If the majority votes, it's the 'tyranny of the majority' and if the admins decide, it's 'not democratic enough'. The fact that you're not looking for solutions and going as far as accusing someone's integ...

If you let the mass decided, they will just want everything on this site for convenient sake.
The doujinshi were purged without a poll, too, so why bother now?

MangaLator clearly goes against the definitions set on this page. I don't know why it was added to begin with. Bri...

Scanlation is a progress that involves scanning, translating, cleaning and typesetting a manga (gonna ignore QC for now).
Mangalator clearly ignores the last two (three) and thus shouldn't be qualified to be a scanlation group, consequently removing them from here.

If you w...

Well, the owner isn't forcing anybody to translate for him, nor is he going around trying to recruit people to do so. It's technically a "community effort" since there are actually people who volunteer their time to translate on the site.

So, how much d...

Maybe you ought to get a job then instead of spending time on scanlation?

How do you think charity organizations are being run? The goal is not to make profit, but at least financially compensate their employees. Scanlation is the same. I wouldn't be able to afford to work 5+ hours every day on scanlation if I wasn't at le...

MangaUpdates has always been a hub for "scanlation groups" to announce the existence of their translated series, and for readers to easily find them to read. That's all it is and will continue to be.

MangaLator (Raffmanga)'s raws are relatively a pain to try to de-watermark, since they're down-scaled and most of them have huge circular watermarks slapped in the middle of the pages, in addition to a watermark on the bottom-right. The raws are not wo...

That would be the best course of action.
But that would require two things:
1) The admins of MU are fine with handing over the database and source code.
2) Someone is willing to take lead of the other site.

I can't comment on 1), but I know that the leecher are all talk, so I...

Somebody is bound to complain about how his project isn't being accepted then.
There are no compromises in the matter.
Either keep it as it is now or kick off all novels.
The former will please novel readers and piss off manga readers while the latter will please manga reade...

I only judge manwha and manhua as complementary, since it's the same medium.
If novels were to be counted it, the line would be too vague and any kind of literature piece from Asia would have to be accepted. Total chaos.
Each medium its own site or it'll get too confusing.

That's only counting the series entries.
But if you take the actual release count into account, novels (or rather web novels) will have a far higher percentage.
And their release frequencies is what distorts the stats and clocks up the release page.

Yes, obviously. Which is why people are pushing for a filter.

The filter merely removes them from the release page, but the stats still get distorted.
