Yasaka Hachiki isn't a genius, and he's painfully aware of it. Yet, fresh out of high school, he decided to enter a special school for aspiring mangaka: Onigahama, also known as "The Tower of Ogres," along with his buddy Saru. Even at the end of the school's two-year course, it is said that only one or two students actually become pros.
One serious contender is Mikeya "Mike" Touma, a pretty boy with an obvious talent for manga but who has so far failed to impress his friend, a strange girl he calls Myaako. To his shock, though, Myaako actually gives praise to a seemingly mediocre storyboard ... More...

Pretty Decent, that's all

Boy goes to a high school of aspiring mangaka dreaming of becoming one, but there's a catch, he can't draw for shit.
Plot follows the typical weak to strong design, as you watch Hachi take slow steps into becoming a fully pledge mangaka with the trials and the tribulations of getting there while facing a genius rival and overall people more talented and/or more passionate then him, a subtle harem subplot forming, furthermore outside all the "drawing battles" that Hachi and his friends will have to face, live the ordinary life of a high school boy.
It has it's funny moments, it has it's dramatic ones, the drawing is relatively simple, but competent and clean enough to make it's climatic moments standout, specially the characters faces when they show outbursts of emotion, which is a recurrent thing as the mangaka's previous works indicates this pattern.
Is it overused? Yes, but the author is proficient in this aspect, as he doesn't bite more than he can chew, and for that at least it has my respect in that regard. Overall it's a pretty decent manga, but that's about it, so it doesn't surprise me that the manga was axed.

Dull Hooks

I really tried to continue reading this, but I just couldn't keep going. The "Manga School" setting is not original. The main character is the typical loser with untapped potential (boring).
Plus, after reading the author's last work (Jitsu wa Watashi wa) this one is just dull in comparison. Jitsu wa Watashi wa had a bunch of wacky characters, but this one is more realistic with its characters and that makes the jokes and funny moments less impactful.
